  • On March 2, 2012, communities in southern Indiana were forever transformed after an EF-4 tornado tore through several towns on a Friday afternoon.
The tornado was on the ground for nearly an hour, covering 49 miles across Indiana and Kentucky with maximum winds of 175 mph.
From Fredericksburg to Pekin to Henryville and even into Trimble County, Kentucky, the violent storm ripped up pavement, tossed school buses and destroyed dozens of homes.
    Eleven people lost their lives.
Despite the devastation, the events of that day show how communities can rebuild - becoming even stronger than before. We talked to some of the survivors 10 years after the outbreak to see how they remember that day.

Mrs. Decker is flat out AMAZING I mean obviously not just sacrificing her body in efforts to keep her kids safe, but the fact that she did NOT give uo.

I’ve remembered the destructive tornado outbreak, I was about 12 years old when it happened and I was in 6th grade in middle school. Tornadoes can happen when it’s not even tornado season yet. It has to do with the El Niño or La Niña conditions in the Pacific Ocean.

The only town, Marysville, completely leveled isnt even mentioned? It was the next town hit after Henryville.

I don't like to complain but all memorial and mentions of any news or anyting it's always focused on henryville because school was hit which is a tragedy it was bad but nobody died my best friend her three young children and her boyfriend were all killed in Pekin and nobody talks about them now in any remembrance except for at the end of the video or whatever it is in the credits and they deserve more than that my best friend was 20 years old their youngest child was two months old unrecognizable the only thing that made them recognize that it was a baby is because she was in her car seat carrier because she was only 2 months old this really needs to be addressed they need more than just their name at the end of the video after you talked about a school where nobody died and yes it should be mentioned but the whole entire remember pretty much should not be all about that when five young people good church-going people and three of them innocent babies lost their lives do better people!!😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😡😡😡😡😡🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😇😇😇😇😇😇😇😇

When it talks about the path of the tornado, they mention the 5 people who were killed in a mobile home. They either said Southern Washington County or Pekin, but they were mentioned then (not by name). More of this program was focused on Ms. Decker, rightfully so, then the school. I am very sorry for your loss of a friend. That whole day was god awful?
