Blues, rock and psychedelia all combine to make this an outstanding cover song. The British Invasion was an indelible part of my love for music and Eric Burdon and the Animals were central parts of musical history.
I was fortunate enough to meet Eric Burdon after a gig in the 80s...he was very down to earth, very easy to talk with. Considering that he is a legendary singer with a unique voice and style, and someone who had been famous a long time, it is not always the case that such an experience won't be awkward but meeting him was definitely a fond and memorable experience for me. Mind you, had he not been, i would still be listening to his music because Eric Burdon is one of the greatest rock singers of all time.
One of my most favorite bands in the 60’s ; The Animals! Loved their music. Even more now . House of the Rising Sun was my Favorite. Wow, what extraordinary memories us people who are now in our 60’s entering into our 70’s. Wouldn’t trade my youth for any of the young ones today.😊
You are showing pictures from the early Animals (1964 - 1966) The rendition on Paint It Black is played by Eric Burdon & The Animals (1966 - 1968). So it should be Eric Burdon & The Animals - Paint It Black, recorded in 1967. This has been played in one take, and shouldn't be on the album. They recorded it since the manager asked them to do so, but they never wanted it on the album, they wanted to do much more with it.
Did Eric etc al record the song with ALL of their hits because of Brian Jones death- do any fans know? I remember being pleasantly surprised; love Brian's sitar riff Namaste Z.
Yeah that was my first thought, why not the people who played on it, and they were dressed in another way at this time too, another image. But that set aside, you can look up a photo of that band and look at it when you listen to this video anyway. I will put a link under here where you can go, just under the top picture is a photo of them. In a band I was playing in the the early 70s, we played this version of Pain't It Black, build up so nicely with the drama; the recording that we listened to was the mono recording...it sounds more lonely and desperate to me, so I prefer the mono version...well maybe because it stuck in my mind from those days way back when...perhaps, the mono is better for me. Here's the link then to see the photo of the band that plays on the song : arthurfromholland.blogspot.com/2014/05/eric-burdon-animals1966-1969.html
As a 60s teenager. The Animals were my favorite group, and Eric Burdon WAS the ANIMALS! The most impressive of all the lead singers. Better than Jagger, Lennon, McCartney, et al.

Eric Burdon is one of the most underrated singers of the time. Many of his songs are among my favorites.
not so underrated...best voice in Rock history
Underrated? Really?
When they were playing.@@seaglass22
I've not encountered anyone underrating him.
I am speaking of the time period when he was performing and recording. I was a young man at the time and they were overshadowed by the big names, Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc. Were you alive in the 60s?@@johnmalcolm9980
The combo of this dude's voice and skills singing is amazing. Great version of a great song!
Eric has a brutal voice, i love
Definitevely, for my ears, the most bad ass singer of this period. My dream ? Link wray on compo, burden singing on it
He and Jim Morrison (the Doors).
👍
He reminds a lot of the lead singer for CCR
@@michaeltischuk7972 John Fogerty
@@valerycharles6007 for sure
Remember that voice from the 60s, First-time hearing this great cover. Thaks 4 sharing. He was all over the Vietnam deal with his high visibility voice to the plight of our troops during Vietnam, As a Marine in that Time frame I have a great Fondness the Man even from the early Rising Sun Animal days.
This just reminds me why I love cover versions, superb vocal performance
Sounds like sitar and very slight psychedelic influence. First time I've heard this. Eric Burden is such a powerful singer.
It's the post-Alan Price line-up, a bit more Burden-centric . . . .
@@johnminehan1148 Why is the guitar player behind him on the right always smiling, almost like he's laughing?

Haven’t heard these guys in a long time- heard them on the Ed Sullivan show way back🤩🤩
Hello 👋 Elizabeth. How are you doing? Hope are you fine. I'm Mark Clifford and am from Denver Colorado, where are you from? You seem like a real country girl
Siempre original e innovador grupo. Atemporales.
LOVE THIS BAND..... THANK YOU ♥️♥️♥️🎹🎶🎵🎸🎸🎸🎸🎹🎹🥁🥁🥁📱🎶🎵🎼🎤🎤🎤🎤
just love this version ..transformed back to being 16 without a care in the world
Great version … Eric Burdon is so underrated… But the Stones’ one is so bluesy and oriental in the same way… masterpiece !
Eric Burden has one of the sexiest voices I've ever heard 🫠
Truly epic!
To me Burdon always had that look of a kid about to throw a rock through some grumpy old mans window
I love how it feels like it's improvising the lyrics is incredibly funny and amazing how good he is at improvising
I’ve never heard their version before today. It seems lm not alone. Love it.
It was the Animals and the Kinks for me, when a kid, not the Beatles. Met Eric once. He's truly cool.
Kinks are a very slept on British band. Sunny afternoon is one of the greatest songs of all time in my opinion
obrigado, sonia, toda a equipe te manda um abraço, im used google translate
Yes Eric Tudo beng
I didn't know this version. Damn, the 60s had the pop explosion!
Windsofchange
This version is much darker and jazzier than the Stones' version.
The way a cover should be; they made it their own.
2021 and still is a peace of gold this song
This a very cool cover. I think I need to look into this band more. There is a soft punk vibe in here.
Google "Sky Pilot".
Soft? For their time, The Animals were punk monsters.
drums and guitar intro are just insane - just as it should be.
You're right!
Here's the mono version : czcams.com/video/U4Q8hbweCH8/video.html
This song was actually recorded in 1970 it's Eric burden the band WAR
As a 60s teenager. The Animals were my favorite group, and Eric Burdon WAS the ANIMALS! The most impressive of all the lead singers. Better than Jagger, Lennon, McCartney, et al.
THE ROLLING STONES IS THE BEST.
GREETINGS FROM BULGARIA 🇧🇬
But the Rolling Stones are the only Rock band that still exists, as Jagger answered to McCartney's criticism.
@@billroyal942 True, they have had amazing longevity, but I’d still choose Burdon over Jagger. 😊
Jagger was once quoted as saying he considered Eric as the best vocalist in England
@@mikefarrell734 But the point is not Burdon's voice quality but the whole song. It misses Brian Jones' and Charlie Watts' skills while playing their instruments.
When Eric Burden opens his mouth, I believe him.
😄😄😄
STILL THE METALIC SPATIAL SOUND OF THE EARLY 60S.
Beautiful version with the great The Animals
I'm glad I found this. Never knew they did a version, after all these years.
It was from Eric Burdon and the Animals "Winds of Change" 1967 album.
Unbelievable version
First time I hear it
It just grows on you from second one
They really owned this song. Amazing cover. Thank you.
Eric Burdon's voice is so soulful. Always fond of The Animals and what he did with War. Love "Skypilot"!
Simply amazing. Best version of this song by a long shot!
You haven't heard the Agony Scene's version then.
@@christ.4977 Not my kind of music. This in my opinion is pure raw music. that's a bit more heavy metal ye know. More head banging shit 😂. Like some songs don't get me wrong but they don't have a voice like Eric. Nothing like it is a matter of fact and the music is totlsly different. Hard to compare them as if your in to that heavy metal or heavy rock whatever it is then your obviously going to pick that over this. I'm more in to my beatles, animals and the stones and even there version is way better. But that's just me it's not really my kind of thing. Did try and listen too it but not for me 😂
czcams.com/video/WeZhZbbusfU/video.html
nope, the best version by an absolute mile is the rolling stones original. there is not single stones cover ever done by anyone ever half as good as the stones do it themselves, thats why there sre so relatively few done for such a massively famous band, same goes for zeppelin, just no-one can match them.
He puts more heart and soul into it than Rolling Stones
Eric Burdon what a gifted voice . Very few can match his voice.
His voice, all those minor-key songs, even when I was 10 the Animals were cool.
One of my favourite bands covering one of my favourites songs
Wow!
Mick Jagger was reciting the lyrics, Eric's passionate delivery sounds like he's lived them.
Eric definitely has a rock and roll voice!
Can't beat the original Stones version, but they did something very original and compelling here. Awesome!
this is oryginal, ver Rolling Stones is a copy
@@zov_fotografia Rolling Stones Paint it black was released on May 7th, 1966, and The Animals was first recorded on July 16th 1967. But released in 1970. It's not the original
Animals band very underrated now in this era .
Respect 🇪🇬
What an awesome cover! Never heard it before, but a great interpretation.

scary eric burdon voice raising the dead or. just. the hairs on my neck, and so punk rock this music.
fun fact : black and white are the original first colors named in any language , and so perfectly celebrated here..
whoa he just growled again as i am still listening ...
Wow, he was a Necromancer? I had no idea.
As much as I love Tutto Nero, this just vibes with me so much more.
'i see those girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes' is one of the greatest lines in rock, pure jagger genius, ya just cant change it, 'people' falls flat / doesnt work.
I think it references an Irwin Shaw short story
They covered this song in spectacular fashion. The Stones' version is a tough act to follow.
