What woods did we miss?
afromosia
no kidding, afromosia is such a great option. I'm really glad it has been more available these last few years.
Bocote would make an amazing tabletop, and it's about the same challenge level as zebra wood.
@misfitramone agreed, bocote is a great choice too
Canary Wood, one of my favorites. Also sassafras. Love that smell when working it.
Thanks for all the great tips Mark! I've only worked with 3 of these woods so I guess I'll have to make a trip to the store and try some of the rest. They are all so beautiful!
It's always a pleasure to see a new video from you. I hadn't seen black limba before, and it's a beauty!
Mark is the best!
I can't wait until I get moved and get my shop built. I'll be making all the furniture for the new house. Lots of good ideas from these wood species.
Hell yeah! That's going to be really exciting 👏
I live in the mountains of NC now, but I lived in Texas half of my life and absolutely love mesquite. It’s in my top 2 for favorite wood. I love the richness of its color.
I just finished a sideboard with the carcass made of roasted oak and the drawer fronts from black limba. All sourced from WWS. Great stuff.
That's a killer combo!
That wenge tip was great.! I have to try this on my next set of pens.
Hi, I am from New York City. Your videos on wood are a treasure. One day these will be a reference liberary in the world. Thanks for sharing. I wish you had a store on east Coast as well. Keep up the good work. Thanks again.
Thanks! As a NJ native, I wish we had one back east too - Corey
I'm in NYC and I've ordered many times from them. ZERO issues
Wenge reminds me Sucupira, an old and very nice wood we used to have in Brazil back in the 80's
This video a huge help! I'm always looking to try new species with my projects, and this turned me on to some great ones. You're my go-to hardwood supplier, and I'll keep the orders coming!
Awesome, love to hear it, which are you most excited to try?
@@WoodworkersSourcecom Iroko for sure, but zebrawood is a very close second. I'm thinking a small end table for my living room using iroko, and maybe the nightstand I've been putting off with zebrawood. I've been putting off the nightstand because I wasn't sure what material I wanted to use - looks like my procrastination may have paid off!
@woodworkerchris1903 Zebrawood nightstands would look great. Check out the full video we did on zebrawood it'll help you out!
That was very helpful. Thanks for the demo. I have done a fair amount of woodworking, and haven’t heard of a few of these. Like the Wenge bleach trick.
Thank you Mark, great video I learned so much. Sure do appreciate Woodworkers Source!
Man your video was excellent!! I've been wondering myself about different types of wood to use and couldn't figure it out. Well today you just made my day lol!!!! You're great at explaining every detail and take your time showing us the results. I really appreciate your help and making me want to build different things. Peace Brother
I thought you might be waiting for this one Vinny! Glad we could help, have a good one - Corey
I really like the rich chocolate color of wenge when you get a finish on if, and zebrawood is a blast to use and very dynamic.
I wish i could use limba, but i'm allergic.
Look forward to trying some of these
Ah, man that is a bummer. Fortunately there are a lot more options for you though
@@WoodworkersSourcecom too true...and I was able to trade what I did have for some other nice boards, so nothing went to waste.
I purchased 70 bd ft of Sapele from you guys a couple years back and it's been great. It finishes absolutely beautifully.
Glad you enjoy it! What did you build?
I see a spike in bleach sales!
That wenge bleached looks awesome.
Thanks for the insight on achieving that look.
Double thumbs up 👍 Amazing video - thank you!
Wow that shedua is gorgeous. Would make a nice guitar.
I think so too!
I made a couple of bath mats with Iroko from Woodworkers Source. A dream to work with using hand tools.
Nice! That's a really fun idea for Iroko
Great video…thanks for sharing this information!!!
Thanks Rusty
I'd love a video on the finish you were using. I looked them up but struggled to find substantial information on their site as to exactly what's in it, drying times, etc.
I'm not sure we'd do a video just on the finish, but it is a really nice product to try. If you're local, we have it in all our stores and would be happy to open a bottle to test out.
Another interesting and informative video. Thanks for investing the time and your knowledge to help us with our projects. CZcams messed up the audio synchronization, but still a great video.
The close-ups of wenge gave me a splinter.
🤣 ouch
Mesquite does wonder in the smoker as well, chip up any leftovers, soak in water and fire up the smoker.
Great video......do you have plans or a video showing how you made the legs for these tables?
Agreed - I like the simple legs and “basic” construction… any dimensions or drawings would be fantastic!😊

Awesome video, do you have plans for that little table or a build video it is sharp too!
I love sapele. Honestly my favorite brown wood to pair with maple, etc. So i hardly end up using any walnut, honestly, since the ribbon sapele is prettier anyway...and cheaper.
I've made tables, cabinets, heck...even countertops out of sapele. Great stuff
Seriously, when making this I said "sapele is a goldilocks wood". - Corey
I have used Sapele in a ton of table projects. It is trully my favorite, next to Walnut. LOL Currious, what is the name of the bit you were using on the table edges? Thought it was a roundover at first but the cut looks like it is straght and curved.
Specifically it's Whtieside 2307. It's a 22.5° bevel bit. When we sanded the bevel got a little rounded.
@@WoodworkersSourcecom Sweet! Thank you for the info. I'll have to pick one up next time I am at the store. :) Thank you! :)
In my opinion hickory is a really underutilized wood for projects like this
Agreed, hickory would be another great choice and dang sturdy with the weight.
My question is… how would you finish iroko for an outdoor table or bench?
I'd probably use Watco's exterior finish or teak oil and make sure to do a slatted design to keep water from pooling.
Really like the tables. Do you have plans?

That smoky smell with mesquite is your sawblade.
Still appetizing 👨🍳
What coating are you using
Elixir Wax. 👍
