- With today's New World update 5.0.2, the game got shards. This means that there can be multiple instances of the same area on the same server between which players can transfer under specific circumstances. For example, players flagging for PvP automatically get placed on the PvP shard.

As is tradition at this point, the patch also came with a major bug: There are various issues with dodges using way too much stamina right now. Also, if you download the patch right away, the file size is massive.
Why is the file size so large?
@@TankCombat Probably due to the Rabbit event? I noticed that patches around events are usually larger.

@@Zhgarr We are redownloading entire game, it's been same for a long time. Perhaps they are trying to cause less problems with entire redownload. But i'm not sure why it would improve anything.

I gave your video a thumbs up. I Don't play new world anymore and haven't since oct 2023. I gave up on it. I really just can't bring myself to play it. Those of you still playing, enjoy it.
Shard is basically translucent ghost system in souls games
It is basically how you build a server that can scale beyond the technological limitations of band width and compute..
It will when rolled out to other zones allow the user to always see a busy server, unless you have just been put onto a new shard fire that zone.
Less servers. You are scaling horizontally not vertically. Horizontal scaling in the normal world, if cheaper, but then again AGS have AWS 🙂
It is worth remembering that invasions have such a low number of players involved, that they would only be affecting a minor fraction of the player base.
I think it allows larger server caps, and still keep a server appearing vibrant.
I haven't played for a year. What is so crazy about these changes. They seem quite normal. Game fest could be interesting though.
The server shards is more of an indicator for something big coming. They wouldn’t have invested in server infrastructure if they weren’t anticipating a large influx of new players
Couldn’t care less about shards if there are no mega servers coming - in fact it’s a net negative rather than positive if the servers stay as they are
I think they’ll up the server size for console release. Maybe 5k

If anything they need to adapt the runescape mechanism of servers. Anyone can login to any server.
@@Z-MACxthat's not enough at all. It needs to be a persistent economy and the same world no matter the server. Infact there shouldn't be a server selector at all! Otherwise it isn't an MMO, just a segmented MMO

Huge patch for point SNS. Defender's Resolve is now actually effective vs. detonates with the faster buff proc, you don't have to drop block for potions and with The Wall I'm not affected by the double dodge cost bug😄

I feel like the BB changes is just another nail in the coffin for BB in PvP. BB sees no use in wars anymore since there's no burst, and even in outpost rush its only utilized as a plague spreader with the grenades, and the net shot is more used as an escape.

The mighty gavel buff is something, but yeah I still don't want to use it. I'd rather that they just change how it works and make it require less points in that branch to use it. Thumbs up!
They should not even think about buffing the rapier until they nerf several aspects of its defense. Best PvE weapon bar none, Unmatched offhand weapon as well.
New world will finally implement something that other games have for over a decade.... In some other games these are channels
Keen Berserk is now just a standard 13% Crit chance and Damage buff on armor and 20% on weapon. So now if you turn your back to a hatchet you die lol.
This shard system is an already outdated system, but it is still better than what they had which is a worrisome thought. Player count this morning was 1000… this system is all too late.
The current population also doesnt require sharding. This has to be for a mega server rollout with console crossplay.
The heavy damage has been increased from 110% to 120% when the passive “Flame Up” is unlocked. It was time for the patch... I'm out after 4000 hours of play. Nothing changes at al

I quit the game this last time after they nerfed the bow too much and released tto many artifacts at once.. why couldn't they just add new skill tree's to weapons that already exist instead of this balancing crap. also delete healers from pvp.
So still nothing new, really. At this point I'm convinced NW is a development playground for the LotR MMO.

I clicked on this thinking you would talk about the disgusting anti-cheat the game installed. It works perfectly: got in the game, did a couple of expeditions and then I stopped being able to salvage items.
I shall reiterate my boilerplate warning: DO NOT PLAY THIS GAME! It has no future, you're just beta-testing a bad engine for a future game. The developers of New World are BY FAR the most incompetent and uncommunicative team I have come across in the past few years.
A funny thing was that I noticed I only had 60 fps in city in the game. I looked at my RTX 4080 Super, it was at only 30% usage. I was like what gives? Then I remembered I have a 4K video encoding process in the background that maxes out my CPU usage. Turns out the game is so badly optimized it mostly relies on CPU for its FPS. Maybe that explains why there's not much difference between how the game looked on "Low" settings on my GTX 1070 and how it looks on my brand new RTX 4080 Super. This is quite a performance, all the other games I'm playing look stunning with high graphics but not New World: same shit, more FPS.
Excited for the console release, shard and megaserver, pvp island and a new expansion and gear releases. All the best. 🤍🖤💜🎉🎉🎉
