    Hey Lyn, thnx so much 4 the vid, a few weeks ago i was in a big garden center, where a lot of cactus had fake flowers pint in with long needles! Every cactus had 6 to 8 flowers pushed in with really long needles! I were there for a while and noticed that all the people love those cactus with the fake flowers! Lots of people put 1 or 2 in there shopping car! I told those people that the flowers were fake and that the little cactus wouldn't live long! And they were really suprised that it was fake ( it looked so real)!
    It's a shame that the garden centers don't inform the people about the cactus with the fake flowers on it! I'm so happy with your channel Hans and Lyn ! I really loving it❤

    Awesome video, Lyn 😊 Great question and great tips. Pests is certainly the most important thing I think, especially if you already have an established collection. Definitely don’t want to introduce pests to them. Thank you for sharing with us as always, Lyn. Have a wonderful day from Edith & myself to you and Hans ❤️☀️🌵🌼🌸🌺🏜

      So happy you loved the Cactus buying video Daz :-D pests are always such a pain when buying cacti from shops, the cacti at our local garden centre 'Dobbies' is dreadful for mealy bugs, I was there last week and they had some beautiful cacti and succulents but so many were covered in mealy bug nests especially the Mammillarias they had for sale, so horrible to see especially for newbies to cacti who may not realise the white nests are mealy bugs, thanks so much Daz for your wonderful Friendship and amazing comments and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you and beautiful Edith lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to England and Singapore for a fantastic afternoon and upcoming weekend XXXX

    Thank you for turning my question into a video, Lyn! Knowing what to look for can certainly save a person money, time, and stress. I have mistakenly brought pests, like spider mites, into my collection at home. And spider mites sure are a pain! They can sadly do a lot of damge before you realize that you have them, especially if you do not know the signs to look out for. Thank you again, Lyn! I am always looking forward to new videos from your channel! Have an awesome weekend! -Bennie ✌️🌵🌞❤️☺️

    Lovely video as always! Lots of interesting and important information! The one about fake flowers or painted cacti is so horrible. Even on other plants they put in a beautiful flower and people buy it as they think it is already flowering and don't know that they have to wait for years to flower! Excellent video, Lyn! I was like a yellow cactus before but it only turned out I was jaundiced 😊 I enjoyed this video so much with all the great information. I've been disappointed at one place I bought my cacti from haven't had any for about a year. They had always carried gorgeous healthy cacti before. I agree with you I think cacti should be natural with no additions. It does make me sad that people add things (paint and/or fake flowers) thinking they will sell better. 😢 Thank you for sharing. Great guide Lyn!! Yeah, I really hate thoe fake flowers!! Like a Euphorbia with a big fake flower onit!! Really!!! I've never seen them pinned, but usually hot glued. If I see one with this that I really want I test the flower and see how loosest is. If it's loose and I can pluck it off without much damage, maybe just a couple of spines, I will pluck it off and buy the plant. Leaving them the flower. I'll have to say, I've also rescued a few leftover plants if I see potential and it's on clearance. Got a couple of Adenium this way. But only if I think there is a good chance. Thanks for sharing Lyn!!! From Morris Park in the Ozarks, to across the emerald isle, have a wonderful day!!! Peace, Love, Plants!!!✌️💖🌵🌴🌷🍀💐🪴🌿🌹🌳🌸🌱🌾😃👍

    I enjoyed watching Lyn😊🙏🌵I always repot any newly bought cacti. I've bought many that have almost no roots, and it took many months for them to establish a new root system,. Yeah, I never buy cacti with mealy bugs all over them because I'd rather not have to use chemicals if I can help it I did have root mealy bugs in a bought cactus so I washed all the roots and put it in a plastic bag with a drench of insecticide. After a day I potted it and drenched all the soil after a week. I wash all and any pots I have if I suspect even one mealy bug🧐🤭

    Oh, you mentioning the Q&A, that was a reminder, hope I'm not to late... 🙃
    I have a small unrooted pup that I bought several months ago, and it has not developed roots. It has a brown "spot" where it was attached to the mother plant, like corking. It looks healthy, it's not soft, it has nice colour. But no roots... 😬 It has probably taken in some water from the soil through it's "skin" , since it's still firm.
    So the question is: Is there something to do about this ??? The pup is very small, maybe 1 1/2 cm across.

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  Před 10 měsíci

      Hi Brit :-D thats good news is if the pup is still firm and has a nice colour, sometimes cactus pups and cuttings can take many months even a year or more before they will root, what you can do to speed up the process is put the pot with your pup in onto a plant heating mat, these plant heating mats are often used for germinating seedlings faster but the bottom warmth may encourage faster rooting, if you have your pup in a nice bright position but away from excess direct sunshine it should root in time, I often mist spray with a water sprayer some of my cuttings and unrooted cactus pups I pot up, I lightly mist the cactus and just very lightly mist the surface of the soil as it seems to encourage quicker rooting, this may help, but I bet you will see roots over the coming weeks and months, thanks so much Brit for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic Friday XXXX

    It’s appalling that they glue on a fake flower or pinned!

    I think the reason they paint the plants or put those ridiculous googly eyes on them is for the kids. It's great to get the kids involved with plants but, don't they understand that a plant cannot be covered with paint!

      Argh I know it drives me mad Marie, they treat the plants as things as if they are plastic instead of living nature, and many of these plants will not survive long term long covered in paint as they are not able to get enough light to photosynthesise due to the paint covering them, XXXX 😢❤

      I saw these painted cacti and succulents for the first time a few weeks ago at a local grocer. I was utterly horrified. The glued on flower thing is bad enough! I am happy to report that I’ve rescued two cacti from the big chain home stores that came with glued on flowers, and after gently removing them, I’ve had real blooms and very happy plants!!

    Do not like plastic flowers - like you. A sour way to damage a beautiful cactus.
