Might be a good idea to keep the dogs away while your'e introducing the chickens to coop area.
Yeah kinda dumb
Yup
We are going to let ours out tomorrow for the first time! Nice video. Thanks!
Great video loved it. Thanks for sharing.
2 hours later and I'm still waiting for the door to open 😂
Because you have swings I hope you love them. ..their so good.
Good work! Thank you for the video.
Thank you
This was pretty exciting, thanks for sharing!
Thank you
That was awesome, very entertaining. I was on the edge of my seat watching them come out. When you went inside it was hilarious listening to you and that last exiting chick.😂
👍😂🙂
Thanks saving them home at last
👍
These chickens are really loved. Confort living. I'de love a swing too.
👍
First intro to Hen house with two Wolves present, - some of your content is genius - this is stupid. poop on my pants my hands - KARMA! you EARNED IT !!
You done a good job on the coop and run. Wish I had mine done, hoping to this spring.
Thank you, Definitely build your coop and run as secure as you can. I had to build my coop and run strong and secure because I have a lot of coyotes, raccoons and hawks here.
Light up the coop, the light brings them in
This is the nicest chicken coop I have seen. I would say, it is a Chicken resort.
Good job, it looks great, very unique! I'm sure they will get used to it soon.
Thank you 😃👍 they're used to it now, and they go back in to the coop just before it gets dark and then the door will close.
Pete B. Is the door timed to close at a particular time?
You built them a beautiful enclosure. Great Job 👍. They will go in their coop as soon as it starts getting dark. Very Lucky Birds. Vinny 🇺🇸
Thank you
@@petebeasttexashomesteading do they use them swings?
@@sm5405 I had one that used them but not anymore.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading I'm a first time chicken owner, thought about making some but wasn't sure if they would use them or just be for looks
Thanks for the ideas, have a lot of fun with you chick girls.
👍
I live in Illinois and that is the nicest chicken coop I have ever seen.
Thank you, I really appreciate that.
Thanks Pete. Gonna try to build something like this
Awesome, Thanks
love your coop
👍
Great video! Super cute and funny
Thank you 🤗
Great job!
Thanks 👍
Cool Coop!
Thanks for the video. We just moved to Palestine, TX this past summer & have a whole herd of goats, lots of gardening, and we just got our very first chicks 2 weeks ago.
Well howdy neighbor 🙂 we're about an hour from you here in east Texas.
We were in Crockett and rusk 2008-17 and just moved back from NC in 2019 we are in Hallsville now with a small shop in Ben Wheeler it’s nice to know we aren’t alone and have good local resources for info we’ve been homesteading in some capacity for almost 15 years now
Lucky bird's
Love them you Go,!! 🐥 Chicken 🐔🐔 i
Yes they need lot of space, they can go in the yard when they know the place, they dont run away.
That last chicken out was a hoot! I laughed and laughed!
😂😂
Great job my friend
Thank you
Wonderful
Thank you
Dude, that last one was so funny! I thought you were cuddling her and keeping her calm and was going to walk around to set her in from where your wife was standing. Then... Woosh! She comes flying out the door like a baseball!!! Lmao!!! I was smiling from ear to ear 😊😁
Great job on the run! Bet all that hardware cloth was a good chunk of moola! Again, great job on the run as well as the house!! Take care brother!
Thank you, yeah your not kidding, hardware cloth is way over priced.
To coin a phrase from Shawshank...."theyve been institutionalized:! Scared to leave the institution.
Yeah it kind of seems that way 😄
I think they were terrified of the dogs but they've got to get used to being around them, so now's as good of a time as any I suppose, right?
I like how it looks like the other chickens are almost volunteering someone else to go check out the outside first!
👍
That door opens far to quickly!! Is there any way, you can slow that door down?🐣
lionel o'connor it doesn’t? It’s very slow actually
@@charlotteholden1266 sarcasm is lost on you
TexasBrown713 omg haha i was being sarcastic... i knew his comment was sarcastic so i made a sarcastic comment 😂🤦🏼♀️ sacasam is lost on you....
@@charlotteholden1266 who responds to a sarcastic comment with one of their own? Nice try 😂
TexasBrown713 Oml i own chickens myself so ik that the door opens very slow... nice try tho (:
Lol...chickens looking out of window at start of vid just before let out...like excited little kids
🙂
awesome design!
Thank you
Nicely designed beautifully no more worlds
Thank you 🙂
my 6 chicks moved to coop 4 weeks old 2 weeks ago and out to run 1 week ago 5 weeks old-they love it
Awesome 👍
Is a scary world out there 😂 Very nice 👍
Thank you
Those chicken first time to breathe fresh air
hi there i enjoyed your film about making the chicken run
Thank you ☺
Very nice run, getting my own chicks soon, going to steal your design to attach to my coup. Good work. I will even put swings, never thought of that. Will put auto feeders and waterer underneath that I can fill for the side of the coup.
👍
Cracking up here!😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I felt it was to short u did a great job also learn some new thanks so much
Thank you
Kroger, IGA's etc... will sometimes give you their bruised produce, and they always take off the outer layers of lettuce mixed in. We used to get big blk bags full for our chickens.
Thanks for the info
The black one came out first ...... thats a nice build
Advance door good idea
What a great hen house and yard. If your little hens are having a problem going in try putting a little light inside the hen house on a timer that comes on after dark and shuts off about an hour after sunset. They are attracted to the light and will make their way up the ramp and onto the roosts. Happy hens.
if they are still on the floor when the light goes off, they can't see to get on the roost
oldchickenlady ...unless the hens are self managing roost space everyone finds a place. Even if hens are to shy or have been bullied and haven’t found a place to roost, inside when the door closes is better than outside over night.
+Cassity ART I guess I have just been lucky over the years....never had chickens that didn't go in at night on their own
oldchickenlady : Me too. Mine have all gone in as well. Pete was introducing his little hens to the outside of the hen house in this video. He had commented that he hopes all the hens make it in. I was making a suggestion to use a light so all the girls are attracted to the light and get in. After that the routine is set. No light needed.
I love you
dogs are saying, "mmm fresh food"
Ha, they didn't want to come out! Ingrates!! LOL Get out there and like it! Do they swing on the swings? I love this! You could put a live Chicken Cam on this! :)
Live Chicken Cam is a great idea.
4:03 wack to the face 🤣🤣
Dont make the dogs want to take the chicken, they need to be calm around them😉
Beautiful! We are in South East Texas and helping our daughter expand her chicken coop! Are you guys selling puppies?Love those Dobermans!
I knew that looked like East Texas! I'm from Nacogdoches!
1hollyhock3 Very cool, howdy neighbor👍
I’m from Ore City
Love the design. If you haven't already you should cover the top with the same wire or bird's of prey will fly in and kill. Also some animals like raccoons will climb up and over to feed on the chickens even in the daytime.
Throw some chicken feed to come out👌
👍
HELL NO I'M STAYING INSIDEEEEEEE😂
Great set up. You have done a really good job...I'm always going to wonder how you did get them back inside those first few nights lol
Thank you, I had to crawl under the coop for the first few nights to get them in until they figured it out 😂
Ps I love your dogs.
Thank you
I suppose by now you know the last frost in e Texas is never in March lol!
All the videos I have seen and books that I have read says, after 2 days of them only being in coop. You then can transition to the run. All you do is open the door and allow them to come out on there own. Everyone makes it clear not to force them. The treats were a great idea though.
But I mean did it really matter? Sometimes people are to protective.
I’m planning on building one also, but I have a smaller back yard
Awesome 👍
Nice job, i wanna have my own chicken farm but i want to grow my dogs knowing that they will not attack my chickes but take care of them from other animals
That was my mistake, I should have had my dogs be with the chicks more often so they would get used to them as they're growing up.
Love your garden and whole chicken build what growing area do you live in?
Thank you, we are in growing zone 8b
great job, I have suggestion for the side door you can cut it in half, so you can use the upper side without worried about the dogs getting there.
👍
Haze Anderson its called a Dutch Door.
so funny how they're stuck by the door.
👍
I’m about to put my chicks in the coop, my pit is a outside dog 24/7…she kills squirrels, rats, possums and birds…he diet is raw chicken and fish…now I’m about to put my egg layers out…..going to be fun!!
Dogs love chicken
I don’t know you guys have foxes or coyotes but make sure they are safe. My grandmothers coop foxes crept in and it was a blood bath, they didn’t even eat them but just killed them off. So be carful, the foxes dug their way in. All the best xx
Thank you, Yeah I worry about coyotes. I seen one last year and I hear them at night sometimes.
skunks will kill them also just because
too funny there was an ad for the pork industry before the vid started.
This video is great! It also makes a fun drinking game. Every time he says, "You Go Girl!" Take a shot of tequila.
You sr.are a great builder, but I will handle my dogs and chicks in a ver diferent way. Great job on the sound and picture of the video.👍
Thanks 👍
Do you have the plans to your chicken coop and run? I would be interested in purchasing a copy if available. Thank You.
Hi Pete. I am a new chick (owner) for the very first time. They will be about 3 weeks old this Friday. We are currently building their coop. When you put your chicks in the coop and didn’t let them out. How did you clean their coop and feed them without them trying to fly out? Love your coop and run. Ours will be simular
Did you attached gates to a post or a 2x4? Also how did you secure the 2x4 on the roof?
The gate is attached to a 4x4 and all 2x4s roof and sides are attached with Simpson strong ties gusset angles, Here's the link: www.homedepot.com/p/Simpson-Strong-Tie-3-1-4-in-18-Gauge-Gusset-Angle-GA2/100375243
"You can't eat them yet."
Yeah we're going to let the chickens live out their lives until they get too old and then they'll be dog food.
That coop/pen looks like mine,, my coop is 4`x5` and my pen is 14`x9` only difference is i built mine out of saplings,,,posts are about 4 to 5" thick i cut them down in my back yard saving a lot of money on the framing I think i have about $175.00 in costs
👍
I was hoping it would be funny to see the chicks' first reaction. Turned out, it was waaaay funnier seeing HIS reaction/action!
Putting the dog up for a couple of weeks until the chickens feel comfortable coming out of their chicken coop
Maybe you better teach the dogs the command of "LEAVE IT". It worked for my dog and she would lay in the grass and watch the chickens walk right past her face.
👍
they would come out faster if the two predators were not there
Chicken can be outside when it is winter, and i love when they freerange,do you feed them leftovers?😉
We feed them organic chicken feed and all the grass, weeds, garden and kitchen scraps we have.
What is the breed of the yellow chickies? So cute with their cute faces and red feathers!
If you mean the reddish chickens, they are called Rhode Island Reds.
Do you guys have any issues with snakes and if you do how do you handle that?
No issues with snakes. I have the coop and run sealed up pretty good. If any snake gets in there, it would be a small one and the chickens would kill it.
What is the mechanism for your door & door controller?
It's an all one unit that I purchased at www.LadiesFirstChickenDoor.com here's the link to my installation video: czcams.com/video/by_RlXlrwtQ/video.html
Nice job. I laughed when you said the white chicken would come out first then wouldn't you know, not the grey one or the two dark ones, the black one came out first.
👍🙂
Do u have an automatic opener if so what kind? Have you had any problems with it
Yes I do, Here's my installation video on it. czcams.com/video/BFqNvgObem8/video.html
What brand of automatic coop door is that?
It's by LadiesFirstChickenDoor.com and here's the review I did on it. czcams.com/video/by_RlXlrwtQ/video.html
I enjoyes your video here in Puerto Rico. Your prefered white wasnt at your expectations but thats ok.
Thank you
There was a fight at 10:30 hahah
👍
you had the brooder in there?
No, I had the brooder in my garage. I had put them in the coop a couple of weeks before I made this video. Couldn't let them out because of the weather.
You go first,no you go first Super setup
👍
Are those chickens strictly for eggs or am I going to have to skip a video in the future.
CTSCAPER Just for eggs. My wife and I eat more of a plant based diet.
Phew. I'm working toward a better diet but it's hard. It's great your wife is on board, that makes a difference.
CTSCAPER better diet? A balanced diet including meat is the healthiest. Purely plant based isnt healthy as humans are made to eat both
So you just get the chicks and they start laying eggs ??
I know nothing about chickens, but interesed in getting some...
Here's a play list I put together of videos of my chickens and the work involved. They will start laying eggs at about 18 weeks of age. We get about 11 to 14 eggs a day from 14 hens. czcams.com/video/H_Q1ZRlrT0U/video.html
I'd be careful with the dogs. More domestic dogs kill chickens than wild life! :(
Thanks, I got my eyes on them. The chicken will always be either in the run or in an electric fence paddock that I'll be installing soon.
I'll be currious to see if the black egg eating snakes can get into your nesting boxes. I hate those things. They make me glad I like in the Pacific Northwest :)
I built the run very tight, the only snake that would be getting in to the run would be about 1/2 inch in diameter and the chicken should take care of them that size.........I hope 😬
My two German Shepherds watch and protect my chickens. They have saved them from wildlife already. The chickens know them and are comfortable free ranging with them around. If your dogs have the right temperament, you can train them. I have a video showing my dogs protecting my hens from a fox that wandered into the yard.
You have to start training the dogs when the chicks are days old. I plan on doing it with my 3 pitbulls. They like the cat.
Jajaja stop wrestling with the chicken 😏
They can eat leftovers,anything.
How many do you have in there
Total of 15 chickens. 14 hens and one rooster.
Really nice run!
You know why it took so long for them to come out? They were chicken.
What did you use inside for heat during the last two weeks?
I used a heat lamp connected to a thermostat to control the temperature.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading DIY setup or you bought the whole thing together?
If you go to this video czcams.com/video/HEb0Z7wjHEU/video.html you will find the link in the description under the video to where I got the heat emitter or you can use a heat lamp and temperature controller.
@@petebeasttexashomesteading Thanks I ordered both those parts. Now I can heat the coop in the winter. What temp do you keep your in the winter?
