Cool, just did my two old Panasonics, didn't have to use the foil, a good clean under the water for the rubber and some alcohol on the PCB did the trick. No damage either, but they were a pain to get apart.

Success! I was recently gifted an older flat screen that I attached a chromecast to for screencasting youtube (otherwise I don't watch TV or other streaming services). Only hiccup was an unresponsive "volume up" button in the remote ("volume down" worked fine). Fresh batteries didn't solve the issue so I thought I would crack it open and see a broken circuitboard or something...was delighted to see nothing apparently wrong and have it working 100% again with a little alcohol wipe down! Thanks for the tip!

This actually worked. I didn't go to the extreme of washing in sink. Just brushed all rubber parts with damp paint brush. Its actually the silver paper bit that fixes the power button .... but hey it worked and Lg TV now operative again. So excellent.
Very good tutorial. Short and clear procedure. Just a comment about this: I used to repairs a bunch of repair like this (maybe around 100 or so) 9 times over 10 it's NOT necessary to add a foil over the none-responsive button.. Just a cleaning is OK. But some remotes as a grease layer that is thick enough to cause more problems that it supposed to prevent and sometimes, alcohol is not enough. In this case, try using WD40 and finish the job with alcohol or acetone. It very important to remove any trace of oil on the carbon pads on buttons AND the board.

Worked a treat..was trying to get buttons on set to control it, but gave up in disgust. This worked straight away after removing batteries, pressing all buttons..batteries back and voila!

Worked for me. For some stupid reason, i thought the remotes worked with the pressure change, not completing a circuit. Didn't know the little black pads were conductive! Only key i use on my remote is the power, and after 9 long years the little pad is all worn down. So i just removed one of the other good pads and glued it over to the power :)
Great Scott!!! After cleaning of PC Board I super-glued a piece of foil to the ON/Off button and it's working like a charm again. Such a helpfull video clip with easy to follow steps. Saved me from buying a new remote. 10/10
THIS WORKED!!! Especially the last step of gluing small portions of al-foil on the unresponsive buttons. You can use a hole punch to create nice circular portions of al-foil. Isopropyl alcohol (contact cleaner) is good for the circuit board. Saved my $500 Topfield PVR from the re-cyclers!
just seen your video. its been long that I fixed some remotes myself. Only that I pre cut the foil with a paper punch and the cuttings are already cut. But sitll Your method is good. Tony

I was getting my thumbs really fucked trying to press really hard on the av and combining a button that worked with pressing really hard on the av it worked from time to time to play my old video games on the old tv xD in the mean time I fixed other buttons because of you ! Is there any fix if some of those dark print on the board went missing? It's still working, but when you push a button random features will pop out the tv screen.
Checking the remote signal via a smartphone camera was a great tip. Remote fully functional after clearing without having to glue in a piece of foil. Thanks!
I have two LG AKB732955 Freespace Magic Motion Remote Controls. The on/off button for each RC shows IR blue light in a camera view. But the other buttons on both RCs show nothing. How do the other buttons send a signal if there is no blue light?

figure out what the dark print was. if its just plastic then put something non conductive on the spot where its missing and glue it
