This is my setup (a74 & 35-150) I use for weddings! What a game changer for me not to have to switch lenses all day. I’ve shot photo and video for several weddings with the combo and it does such an amazing job.
@@sathiyaceelanphotography Autofocus in video is fast and smooth (no hunting). I love how it transitions between subjects - look so good. Very accurate! The lens is also very sharp, even at f2-2.8. I have owned so many great lenses over the years, this one is easily my favorite.
I'd add a small'ish 16-35F4, or a really tiny Tamron 24F2.8, which also doubles as an excellent macro'ish lens. I did a wedding once with just the Tamron 28-75 on an A7III. Ended up cropping in too much for certain shots. This 35-150 is a game changer.
@@elementalview1 I always have my Tamron 17-28 f2.8 in my bag, but have yet to need that wide of a shot. It’s nice to have just in case though, and I love the 17-28 lens anyway.
I remember when sigma and tamron were terrible budget options, they have come so far in the last 7 ish years. This lens sounded great when it was announced, versatile range and a fast aperture for a variable lens. Looks like a solid choice for that do anything lens
I did a senior couple shoot at a park recently and showed up with a bag of lenses and never took the Tamron 35-150 off the camera once. It's a wonderful lens with great glass, is very fast, and tack-sharp. I still love my Sony 16-35, an exceptional lens for wide angle, to use for those tight and wide shots. But I can easily see how you can now get by with just this one lens for assignments like this.
Lens review aside (which was also really good and had great review points) this video is absolutely fantastic for a general wedding shoot with great tips and pointers for all aspects of the day/profession/role, not just for shooting. Really well done, love it.
@greenbarn.videography there's really not much to say. I simply keep my white balance on "shade" 99% of the time that I'm outside. It just makes my editing process easier. Obviously you can change the WB In post (and I do) but auto WB Is too unreliable. And I like the warmer look of shade. So when I get my photos into lightroom and they are already close to how I want the WB, it just makes it easier. Hard to explain. It really doesn't do anything. Other than make the process of shooting easier because I'm not fumbling around trying to set the WB.
I have exact the same set up in 2022 I shot about 35 weddings so far on the beach… I love it, gotta be aware of shooting against the sun and that flare… I got this set up for first time in rainy day and wind over 20 miles an hour… Held up okay fantastic!
That lens definitely is a good all in one setup. I've been a lover of prime lenses lately. I use to rock the typical 24-70, and 70-200 for my go to.. Then I switched to a 24 1.4 and a 135 1.8 and i've never looked back. Tack sharp photos, great for video, low light is amazing and the bokeh is just on another level.
I know primes is a different league. Sorry to admit here, but your right. It’s more work and 2 cameras helps but primes is better. But the zoom is so easy. I’ll give ya that
I went the other way around, I bought 14mm, 20, 35, 50, 85, 135 prime lenses. Now my most used lenses are 24-70 and 150-500 while I sometimes compliment them with 14, 24 and 135mm. Sold the 20 and 50, want to sell the 35 as well.
So much gold here on how to confidently but politely direct people. I've said so many times that confidence is the single greatest attribute a wedding photographer can have - but you can't be a jerk about it.
i'd take the 35-85 f2 in a heartbeat. that would cover every single possible focal length / aperature combination I need in my fantasy/viking shootings !
I'd pay big money for a 35-85 f/2. Or even 35-80 f/2. That'd eliminate the need to lug around two bodies with a 35 and 85. Canon 28-70mm is tempting but 70 just falls short at the telephoto end.
THANK YOU...This is how it is supposed to be. Great images...GREAT commentary..NO nonsense comparisons between camera brands and formats.I just wanted to do backflips and cheer...
We just started shooting weddings and buying an A7iv and the 35-150 was a nice and easy way to get started without having to buy a whole set of primes that we would need to constantly change since we only have one camera each at the moment. Shot 2 weddings now on the 35-150 and although it's quite a heavy lens to use all day, it's absolutely nailed it in almost every situation. There are a few niche situations where I'd like to have an option of something else though. I had a situation where I was doing a stair shot where I was literally squeezed right into a corner because the 35mm wasn't quite wide enough. so a wider lens on hand for those situations would be nice. Another is it would be nice to have an 85mm prime for at night where the f2.8 is maybe just a tad slow... but we get around this with strobes and flashes. Then the last niche situation would be a solid macro lens. So we have had the occasional situation where a different lens would have fit slightly better, but we have worked around that. For 95% of the day, this 35-150mm has been an absolute beast! Shooting verticals with this lens and a v1 in the hot shoe is a wrist buster though 😂
I have my A7iv setup the same way even with the aps-c mode on my c1. Just a tip that I got from Dan Fox. Try setting the zebras on the camera at 102 and that way you’ll know if you are blowing out any of the white while in auto iso. This camera has so much dynamic range I haven’t had a situation where I could bring back an underexposed image even 3+ stops if you just turn either the iso down or exposure compensation dial.
I got introduced to this lens by a college at a photoshoot , I have to say its plus, no to have to switch lenses for weddings hell yeah ! . I have have shot a lot of weddings with my 24-105 F4 and at the end of the wedding I noticed that the lens swap was very minimal to almost non ! it was a bit of a weird feeling lol ,
Also, Leica has an adaptive ISO mode on their SL2 series that will keep a base ISO and boost it up as a variable aperture lens zooms in. Freaking brilliant. If Sony did this, I’d buy this so fast.
Great review on this lens as it is one of the main reason why I switched to the Sony FF body over all the other FF camera manufactures. When paired with the new Sony A7RV with 8-stop IBIS, the 60MP FF with the sharp Over Sampling 26MP APS-C images that is sharper than the 33MP image from the A7IV while still providing incredible flexibilities that covers most of my needs. Tamron 35-150mm f/2.0-f/2.8 focal range including in APS-C mode: @ f/2.0: 35mm-39mm (APS-C range: 52.5mm - 58.5mm / Total available range: 35mm - 58.5mm) @ f/2.2: 40mm-59mm (APS-C range: 60.0mm - 88.5mm / Total available range: 40mm - 88.5mm) @ f/2.5: 60mm-79mm (APS-C range: 90.0mm - 118.0mm / Total available range: 60mm - 118.0mm) @ f/2.8: 80mm-150mm (APS-C range: 120.0mm- 225.0mm / Total available range: 80mm - 225.0mm) I prefer carry this one lens than have to miss precious moments during lens swapping, not to mention dealing with increasing frequency of sensor cleaning and dust entering into different lenses and while have to carry the weight of all the extra lenses on a much larger and heavier camera bag.
Just home and decompressing from shooting a wedding, mainly with my 35mm GM, and 85mm 1.8, alongside a hired 135 GM, and occasional Samyang 24mm for wide and dancing on two A7ivs. First wedding season with the Sonys, moved from Fujifilm and I’m loving the gear. Always been ‘a prime guy’ 🤮 hate that term, but this lens really, really interests me. I’d looked at the 135, liked it today a lot….but maybe this is the next purchase. Any feedback appreciated Taylor!
Love your "review"! Great work, mate! After working with this lens for about 18 months on all kinds of different assignments I am still looking for a flaw because I simply can't wrap my head around what Tamron did here. I was a prime shooter for years (outside the 200-600 G) and wasn't happy with the occasional need for the 24-105 F4. It is a very good (and more importantly stabilized) lens that does an amazing job but I was missing the shallow depth of field and 105mm never felt that much more than 70mm to me. Now 150mm F2.8 are something wild for below € 2.000,-- (central european price back in spring 2022). This lens practically lives on my a7iv while I use the a7r3 with the 20mm F1.8G for the wide angle shots. One big main cam combined with a small one for wide angle. Works perfect for me, though, I am looking forward to exchange the a7r3 for an r5 or the upcoming a7v and maybe getting the 12-24 Sony or 14-24 Sigma for the wide angle stuff. Overall: If you are a working photographer in the field of ANYTHING --> Get this lens as a workhorse or even as a backup. It covers a lot of prime lenses and there is yet to come a customer to me that complains that I am not shooting with the newest G Master lineup 🤭
How does it perform on the R7? I used it with R5 and R6 and would freeze the camera all the time, got the lens reviewed here with a a7IV and love in it so far (except it got dirty inside in 2 months :( ) - its noted in tampons website that there are compatibility issues with mirrorless cameras-
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto next time. I’ll make it a tradition from now on. Even if the sandwhich gets nasty sitting in the hot car waiting to be included in the video. I’ll still eat it for the content
The new car is way better for interior recording Taylor. 💯 Honestly wish more photographers would make videos like your's. Gear reviews are starting to get a little long in the tooth, but when you actually use the thing, so much better.
Non prime lenses are great for weddings, they got a lot better sharpness wise. No need to switch lenses all day long. Primes would be best for portraits and studio work. With so much going on during the wedding constantly switching lenses is super annoying and gives a chance for dust to get on the sensor.
Two cameras, two primes and no need to change. That way you become a master of your focal lengths, get better low light capabilities and better subject separation. Keeps you moving to be where it happens and constantly find new angles. That is why most great wedding photographers shoot primes.
It's a great lens and I've been thinking about buying it. But it's pretty heavy and doesn't perform well in direct lighting so I went for the Sigma 24-70 f2.8 art lens that I can also use as a travel lens, that lens in combination with the 135mm f1.8 GM gives everything you need at a wedding with shallow depth of field for the portraits and a wider fov compared to the 35mm of the Tamron. Still waiting for the 85mm 1.2 though.
Reviews on CZcams show that the Sigma 24-70 also suffers in direct lighting. The thing I dont like about Sigma is the bokeh quality, I highly prefer Tamron over Sigma in this respect. The 135mm GM is a dream.
@@firpofutbol I kinda like the bokeh quality on the 24-70, I also have the 105 macro and the bokeh is one of the best I've seen. Pretty similar to the 135mm 1.8 GM
Good vid!……..I got this lens off eBay $500 over stock because it was coming from Hong Kong! Do I like it?………it never comes off my a7sIII! If fact if tamron did a 17-200mm 2.-2.8f for $2500, I’d but it!👊🏾😡
That is really a good range for a wedding. I wondered if 35 mm was wide enough, but it seems that it is. A big thumbs up. Clearly, 70-200 requires at least two lenses. The only question: Is 35 wide enough?
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto I’m a D800 user with the 50mm f1.8 and a Nikon 70-210 f4 and looking to rent another lens for next wedding what would be your recommendation? 35,85 or a 24-70 ? Cheers
@@scottwesterman221 Depends what you use the most. 24-70mm will probably be the most useful tool overall. 85 1.4 will make very nice images. 35 1.4 will likely be more useful than an 85 all day, but you won't get the same background depth of field pop like an 85
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto many thanks ! Also would you trust the AF-C on the D800 with my cheaper glass ? I’ve always shot on AF-S in the past and missed a lot of moving shots for sure.
I have been thinking about trading in me 24-70 GMaster for this fella and now I'm sold. Thanks mate .... still using me 85mm for weddings as well though 😅
What an informative video! I'm an A7Siii video guy, not a wedding photographer and I've got a question about your photo developing. In the video when you're taking photos you're adding the photograph to the video to show the audience. The photos seem much brighter than the video...is that a choice you're making in post? They're clearly not overblown...but they're...artistically bright? Again, love your stuff...just curious.
this lens would be a game changer for me,ok its expensive, but this would change this struggle for me to change lenses as im shooting with one camera in a weddings, because hate two cameras.
I love old cars for weddings. I had a couple that drove a model T Ford and we got some of the most epic wedding photos with it. I’m excited to get my new 35-150 for my two weddings I have coming up. Are usually use a 35 mm and 85 mm F1.4 throughout the day. And when I do the couples solo shoot I try to incorporate the 135 mm F1.8 GM for some of the shots. But seeing I’m gonna have all these focal links in one lens I am curious what I should use for my second body. The widest that I have is the 24-70 F2.8 so I’m wondering if I should have that on my second body or still keep my 85 mm F1.4 for those nice crisp bokeh shots
Hey an F1 fan cool - and you were in Burlington - I was by the lake Saturday - well after the F1 qualy - and I shoot R6 and A7IV - except I don't do wedding photos - no people skills - so I stick with more static subjects like hills and flowers ... but I always watch your videos. Something new to learn every time. Your friends 911 Porsche video was my favorite. I wonder if you follow Kill illman - the F1 youtuber and F1 photog.
Where you in face/eye detect mode? It looks like you just shooting without moving focus points. Also how high did your auto ISO get to in church. Wonderful video. ❤
I just got my 35-150 (after months of waiting), and I love it so far. (Commenting on the off topics of the video: I'm from Hungary, and love the band Architects. :D)
Nice captures, I'm impressed. You're kicking a few cows with this Tamron lens. I started using a 24-120mm f4 on my Z 5, which is doing great for all types of subjects, so far. I'm waiting for the Japanese 3rd party lens makers to get some glass for the Z mount. It's like they're asking Sony for permission...
Great review! Interested with this lens + the Sony A1. Not sure if it will cap the 30 FPS like most 3rd party lenses. Curious if you can use a macro extension tube with it to do some macro shots.
I've been using multiple exposures for architecture photography but I am not sure what you meant at 12:53. Surely you cannot use use multiple exposures for portraits.
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto lol that was a fast response. I’m still watching this video. Well that’s good. I have a small wedding later this month and hopefully I don’t have to deal with that. Great video man.
You can also offer couples an unplugged ceremony discount of something like $100. It’s a thing Sam Hurd suggested in his workshop years ago. This helps get them to at least put a sign up or get the officiant to announce to not take pictures
Great content as always mate, did you miss the 1.2’s 1.4’s and is there any reason you’re not using Electronic shutter? I used mechanical all the time on the A7iii because electronic was trash but I thought the A7iiii was much improved!? I’m on the A9ii now so pretty much always using Electronic silent unless of course I’m batting low quality LED lights!
Curious how you run the gopro for these videos. Just basic info like, how many extra batteries are you using ? charging during break times ? lasts all day? Thanks ! love the content always.
It’s for sure my ceremony lens when using Sony. It did a weird tilt shift error in September and it required warranty service. So I’m still getting back to trusting it.

I worked at Outback Steakhouse for years too…those bloomin onions tho… 😂 (now I’m a photographer & still have my healthcare day job)
Tamron has an older version for canon and nikon but its 2.8-4 which is still amazing I use it now on my R7.
Probably a lot lighter as well hah. This thing gets heavy.
Yes its like half the weight 😆
How does it perform on the R7? I used it with R5 and R6 and would freeze the camera all the time, got the lens reviewed here with a a7IV and love in it so far (except it got dirty inside in 2 months :( ) - its noted in tampons website that there are compatibility issues with mirrorless cameras-
You sold your Sony a7rii?
This was a great day. Also that officiant was VERY nice and quite funny too. I want to return to this church and be his friend.
There was a distinct lack of turkey bagel sandwiches today though
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto next time. I’ll make it a tradition from now on. Even if the sandwhich gets nasty sitting in the hot car waiting to be included in the video. I’ll still eat it for the content
The new car is way better for interior recording Taylor. 💯 Honestly wish more photographers would make videos like your's. Gear reviews are starting to get a little long in the tooth, but when you actually use the thing, so much better.
02:58 Vamos Checo!! Hungaroring? Good gag about Ferrari pit stop :D
This is such a good video!! I’ve learnt so much from this. Thank you 🙏
The Ferrari pitstop jibe is on point 😄
Man it’s relevant again for like the 10th week in a row
If fact if tamron did a 17-200mm 2.-2.8f for $2500, I’d but it!👊🏾😡
Dude. Digging those sunglasses 😎
I love Architects UK!
Absolute favorite lens! Bringing it out to Banff.
It is going to do very nice things for you there!
That is really a good range for a wedding. I wondered if 35 mm was wide enough, but it seems that it is. A big thumbs up. Clearly, 70-200 requires at least two lenses. The only question: Is 35 wide enough?
I think it is. I usually shoot a 35 prime on one body and an 85 on another. I have a 16 in the bag, but I use it for maybe 1 photo every 3 weddings
You should add the Sony oem battery grip feels so good in the hand especially for long lenses and looks very nice 👍🏼
Yah. The a7 iv is very sharp on your index finger with a heavy lens. Was certainly feeling that by the end of the ceremony
I use AFC and set the back AF button the AFLock. Kind of the opposite of back button focus but it works well for me
You make me laugh. Gorgeous work
I have been thinking about trading in me 24-70 GMaster for this fella and now I'm sold. Thanks mate .... still using me 85mm for weddings as well though 😅
My fav lens! Super versatile for video
Yah, this is very ideal for video all day
great work , still waiting for my lens to come ( low stocks in the uk)
Here for the conversation tips
Love the video….Nice!
4 minutes in and I want the lens
Amazing work.. thanks for the tips and tricks...learned a lot
Vary NYC work and good camra and lens
Thanks buddy great video
What an informative video! I'm an A7Siii video guy, not a wedding photographer and I've got a question about your photo developing. In the video when you're taking photos you're adding the photograph to the video to show the audience. The photos seem much brighter than the video...is that a choice you're making in post? They're clearly not overblown...but they're...artistically bright? Again, love your stuff...just curious.
The lens is sick 🔥
Awesome content man!
I’ve been on a waiting list for 8 months 😭
Whats the app u used to track sun ?!
I need this in an RF. Badly! Lol!!!
Bruh I know you switched but man this 24-105 f 2.8 Canon has put out is money!!!!!!
Haha it looks way too big and heavy for me
Hello, RF Mount where are you !
AMAZING, was about to buy some new primes but think I will pick this one up!
It’s such a hard call haha. Very much enjoy primes as well
this lens would be a game changer for me,ok its expensive, but this would change this struggle for me to change lenses as im shooting with one camera in a weddings, because hate two cameras.
@12:26 i live there!!!! lol
Super cool. I like your style, man ! I couldn't help but wonder how many exposures you took for this wedding ? 1000 ??
I have this same setup it’s dope!
@8:29 I'm an Architect and I am watching this video.
love you bro. your ideals is nice.
This is great!
love your video sir
Where you in face/eye detect mode? It looks like you just shooting without moving focus points. Also how high did your auto ISO get to in church. Wonderful video. ❤
Hey Taylor, what color are your frames and lenses? Rayban RB2180 is the model right?
I just got my 35-150 (after months of waiting), and I love it so far. (Commenting on the off topics of the video: I'm from Hungary, and love the band Architects. :D)
I know you weren't doing hybrid coverage with the lens, but would you have any hesitation using it for video coverage as well? Picks look great!
Just depends on a7iv buffer speed that I haven’t tested again since update
Nice captures, I'm impressed. You're kicking a few cows with this Tamron lens. I started using a 24-120mm f4 on my Z 5, which is doing great for all types of subjects, so far. I'm waiting for the Japanese 3rd party lens makers to get some glass for the Z mount. It's like they're asking Sony for permission...
I'm using this lens on my Nikon Z with the Megadap ETZ21 adapter and loving it.
Great review! Interested with this lens + the Sony A1. Not sure if it will cap the 30 FPS like most 3rd party lenses.
Curious if you can use a macro extension tube with it to do some macro shots.
Every GPS Device is World Clock synced -EXACTLY.
As otherwise you cannot triangulate sattelites. So any GPS App or similar can do that.
I've been using multiple exposures for architecture photography but I am not sure what you meant at 12:53. Surely you cannot use use multiple exposures for portraits.
For creative ones you can
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto Thanks! Can you suggest some examples? Do you have in your videos?
Big thing I noticed about the ceremony. The is no one with their damn cell phone out blocking your way! I battle with this a lot!
It was a big problem in like 2010-2018 but seems to have chilled out here at least. It’s a nice change
This helps get them to at least put a sign up or get the officiant to announce to not take pictures
love it!🥰
What an amazing set up! Could this lens also be used for portrait photography?
15:27 what was settings there, f stop? Everything in focus, beautiful!
is 35mm is wide enough for wedding photography ? or do I need even wider ?
Thank you so much for this great video. Do you always use auto-iso ? and what do you think is the benefit on using it ?
shout out for the architects UK taste in music *horns*
Dang I was curious to see how it did at a low light reception
I’ve done a few since that should be coming out over the next few weeks!
Mr. Jackson, love your work. Do you use a filter while taking photos? Are you shooting in raw?
Great content as always mate, did you miss the 1.2’s 1.4’s and is there any reason you’re not using Electronic shutter? I used mechanical all the time on the A7iii because electronic was trash but I thought the A7iiii was much improved!? I’m on the A9ii now so pretty much always using Electronic silent unless of course I’m batting low quality LED lights!
As far as I know A7IV doesn't have a stacked sensor as A9/A9II/A1 do. So the read out speed is not so high.
Curious how you run the gopro for these videos. Just basic info like, how many extra batteries are you using ? charging during break times ? lasts all day? Thanks ! love the content always.
It really is a one of a king lens lol only thing keeping me from buying the Nikon z9
So did this lens become a mainstay in your arsenal or are you back to shooting mainly with a 35 and 85?
It’s for sure my ceremony lens when using Sony. It did a weird tilt shift error in September and it required warranty service. So I’m still getting back to trusting it.
I hope they will make for canon mount.
Great video! Thank you. By the way how are you recording your camera like that?
Thanks!
