    The three lenses that I use the most are all Tamron (obviously): 17-28 f/2.8, 35-150 f/2-2.8, 150-500 VC VXD. It's a brilliant three lens setup. As for lenses I don't carry often, I prefer the image quality consistency of the 28-75 G2 over any 24mm zoom I've ever shot... And I have shot most. If I need a proper 24, I'm going to a proper ultrawide angle zoom or prime for it.

    If you already have a canon EF to Sony adapter I highly recommend saving money and getting the better tamron 17-35 instead of the more expensive 17-28mm that’s native, also those extra few mm out to 35mm make it much more versatile

    Wonderful review. I added up all the lenses (which covers nearly every photography situation I can imagine, and there is some overlap of reach) which came to $9,900. I own some of the lenses listed. #7 Looks promising for what I am looking for, the Tamron 17-28mm. Thanks for taking this on.

    The 28-200mm from Tamron is a treat. But I’m not surprised, as I’m used to the 18-270mm for APS-C.
    Ok, tbh, I’m a bit surprised, the quality is astonishing, it is way sharper and has almost no chromatic aberration compared to the 18-270mm.

    I am so happy with Tamron's 17-28mm and 28-200mm, this duo has been great for a long time. I am ready to buy the Tamron 28-75 II for all you have said about it. Stefan, though you specialise in 3rd party, is there any comments on Sony's budget and lightweight primes as the 40mm f/2.5 which I am tempted to purchase? What do you think?

    • @StefanMalloch
      @StefanMalloch  Před 2 lety

      Hey thanks for the comment. That's a great combo indeed. I have not yet got my hands on the little primes long enough for review but they do look promising. For me I would want at least a F1.8 if I'm to supplement a prime with my F2.8's.

I bought 40mm for aud764 and 28mm for aud799, that is about 480-507 in US dollar. To walk on one level with beast like canon or nikon, they just give opportunity to alternative lenses company, and here you have, people buy more sonys cause here is nice and cheap lenses like sigma. But with mirrorless on canon or nikon for same quality of lenses client will pay x2 or x3. Great move sony!

      Too niche for this list. I only really use manual lenses for macro personally.

    Surprised no sigma 35 1.2. I know it’s heavy but in the used market it’s cheap for what it is. Plus it’s the only 3rd party 1.2. If I ever shot Sony then this lens is on my list. No matter the size that 35-150 would be my 1st. I dont even care if IQ wasn’t the greatest out there.

    You open with it’s not a professional quality lens, then say you can shoot portraits and landscape - people sell shots with this lens, absolutely. Ergo, professional. Optically perfect is a myth, anything is a professional lens in professional hands, at least that’s my take.

    "10 BEST 3rd Party Lenses" ... How come Sigma 70/2.8 macro Art is in the list, but the superior Sigma 105/2.8 macro Art is not?... :(

    Very odd list. None of the fast Voigtlanders on here, of which there are three that are incredible. no Zeiss 21mm. No Sigma Art primes.
    Anyone looking for legitimate list of best third party Alpha lenses just read some Phillip Reeve articles.
