- The Most Capable Active Protection System to Defeat the Widest Array of Threats
The Iron Fist Light takes active protection to the next level. Iron Fist Light is an easily configured add-on system applicable for armored platforms from light 4x4 vehicles up to medium and heavy Armored Fighting Vehicles (AFV).
The System’s hard-kill concept is based on intercepting the threat by launching a small warhead and initiating it at a safe distance from the protected platform, at a precisely calculated moment, and defeating or destructing the threat through a shock-wave effect. - Věda a technologie

Very cool how they made the velocity of the debris in the first simulation much slower, making it seem like the shrapnel would pose no threat to infantry. That shrapnel will still be going as fast as the rocket.
Well then if the aps wasnt there both the infantry and ifv would go kaboom, also shouldnt infantry already keep their distance from an ifv, specially the ones with AGMs, in consideration of backblast or the suppresive fire the IFV will most likely concure?

When any simple rpg hit a target . There is a far worse collateral damage. Inside.
But there is always a blast shockwave near an armored vehical.
Even a tiny bullet creates such a penetration shock wave when being fired on a car for instance, that can be seen . Granted it’s tiny so we are talking in several cm at best.
also...unlike the movies, modern infantry does not run side to side with a column. They are safely tucked inside till they deploy.
Even when deployed , they will always deploy at either side that is opposite to the threats.

@sherdil3717 This is correct. It’s called the Drozd, and it saw some service in the Soviet-Afghan War with T-55’s and some T-62’s. It's me or in the end the syst intercept an apfsds
It might be the OG-7V, the RPG-7 HE-FRAG round.
APSFDS,yes.
I'm not sure it is possible.
apfsds move really fucking fast so if it did intercept it (which I doubt) then colour me impressed
I agree with your assessment. My thoughts are that unless the discharged unit fired to intercept a LONG way off for an APFSDS, it being really close like it appears in the video, would the detonation be enough to knock the projectile off of its initial trajectory or at least disrupt the projectile enough so that it isn't allowed to strike straight on, thus defeating its ability to penetrate by virtue of the kinetic energy it would possess then lack by skewing the trajectory? Sort of like having a bullet "keyhole" on impact.
The delivered energy would be significantly less but from what I could detect in the video the penetrating projectile still seemed to travel straight and not deflected to any great degree.
But that is just my $0.02 on the subject matter.
So basically its just a Trophy System?
Exactly
But upgraded version...
No and yes. Yes in the sense it is an APS like trophy. Also no because trophy fires a wall of explosive pellets like a big shotgun. It also uses an IR emitter for detecting threats. IR is slower than the iron fists radar which makes the trophy struggle agaiant high velocity penetrators. Iron fist fires a projecticle like a grenade with fins at the incoming threat to destroy or divert it. It uses radar over an IR emitter to detect threats wich is far faster at detecting a threat and plotting an intercept which allows the iron fist to reliably knock down even high velocity penetrators.
@@EMAXXMASTER Dude Trophy uses AESA radars AFAIK.

Amazing!
Don't forget to deploy your Trophy System on your IAV. Best advice.
Wouldn’t be too safe if there’s a friendly infantry nearby though-
They'd be toasted by the rocket/missile hitting the vehicle anyways. But generally you wouldn't have your dismounted infantry close enough to the front of the vehicle for that to be a major issue.
They are mostly located behind the vehicla
So it needs 3 rocket @ minimum or more to destroy one IFV/Tanks
The Active protection should be hit first by a sniper bullet to disarm it.
@Phoenix there's several ways to discoering IEDs
Ground perforating radar, flails, rollers and so on
They're still deadly if they're intelligently concealed however
Having a good hull design can leave the crew unharmed, but it would still blow that track and then they'd be fucked
Having anything resembling infantry nearby is a big no-no so they can't scout ahead for IEDs
@Phoenix
That device is "loud" - when active scream: kill me, i am here!
The infantry walking beside the vehicle: *Well shit-*
People outside the tank:
*Chuckles* I'm in danger
They said it could not be done.
So you need to send some dummymissiles before firing the true one
Or do a salvo of missiles. Like me and my friends did in ArmA. If something works in this bugfest of a game, I till work IRL. At least when terrorists use it.
imean if they fire one at a time they go boom
I don't think the guerilla insurgents are that organised, also realize the fact that the convoy will have over watch support from a uav or some kind of satellite feed to identify event infantry the moment an attack occurs. The convoy will most likely light up the source of incoming fire with retaliatory counter fire.
Or simply bee too fast to get interceptet by this system^^ Or just not fire from the somehwat 90-110° angle it can detect the threat. Seems like a very simle to adapt solution, and somewhat logical as every old Taliban dude knows that tanks/IFV's are thickest and front.
But it sounds logically, as in naval and air combat missiles actually deploy active sensors and jammer, and jammer-jammers xD
Iron Fist is a low tech solution against an 20 year old problem, so it might have been okay for defense against some oldschool Taliban ... if these not recently had been supportet by the US army with somewhat 5-7 billion dollar of modern military equipment. India atm is complaining that all ther pakistani terrorists have state-of-the-art US military equip and ATGM's xD
I'm gonna need one of these in Chicago
Looks effective, wonder how it will do in actual combat
Already tested in combat in 2014, israel used a (pretty much) heavier version of this on their tanks to extreme effect.

@@panzerjuiceinc.5183 thank you for pointing it out. Rheinmetall is like the Mercedes of the defense industry. I don’t know if Germans are even capable of engineering something badly. But speaking of the APS I still wonder how it’ll defend from something like a Malytka.

It's one of the worst, but cheap. Also - as you saied - it's against low tech weapons and don't have to do more. One problem might be that this solution is for a 20 year old problem. Today Taliban have Javelin and Kornet, just laughing about IronFist.
If you search good approaches, go for StrikeShield or Arena. Tracking and intercepting an object that moves 1750-2050m/s - that is awesome.
Does this work against cannons or is it just against anything slower than the speedsound?

wonder what happens when the tanks are in a tight column? do the platforms communicate with eachother to know if one is engaging with a projectile?
Afaik there is a datalink system with the AESA radar equipped so in theory yes they can communicate with each other and closest available takes the shot.

HOLD UP! HOLD UP... 0:59 is that a warthog and please let me know you mounted the gau 12 on it
I see throwing a trophy system on a tank is effective as hell
These are going to be even more important than first thought. With the ubiquity of drones these are going to have to be adapted to work against them as well. My guess is that they are going to have to find ways to make these as cheap as possible with as many rounds as possible so they can be used across all kinds of vehicles and have enough rounds to deal with swarms. It would probably be easiest to make something a bit like the c-ram only much smaller with the radar and gun all in one thats automated and uses cheap proximity fused shells or shot gun style ammo. Its going to be interesting watching how this field develops.
Imagine if the sensor has failed to work and hit nearby friendly soldiers Instead.
