    Thanks for this update review. I have been using mine for about 7 months now with a 49" ultrawide monitor. The head-tracking works perfectly. The eye tracking works except at the VERY edges when my head is turned one way or another. It took me a while to adjust (in my head) that the head tracking is something like a 2:1 ratio and the eye-tracking at a 1:1. I use it in both GA and commercial aircraft, but I DO turn it off in commercial when doing things like startup procedures when I am switching between the overhead, tablet, MCDU, etc. Then turn it on when I start taxiing. The only other time I turn it off is when it gets turbulent and I am needing to use the mouse to durn dials. It is SO much more natural when flying, and especially when landing. Tobii has apparently finally come up with an alternate mount, which was desperately needed, but unfortunately is way too expensive. I made my own mount.

      Interesting to hear your experiences with the TET5 and your 49" monitor; I assume that would be the edging towards of the max size that you should use it with. Excellent piece of kit.

    I never fly without it! Absolutely brilliant piece of engineering and software. As I stated in my comment on your previous Tobii ET5 review, it might seem expensive but it's an absolute bargain compared to the overall costs of strapping a brick to your face to get good situational awareness and periferal vision. FYI, I'm using it with a 45" 4k TV. Worth every penny!

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  Před 8 měsíci +2

      It's not expensive when you consider the use and enjoyment to be gained from using it.

    I wish there was some way you can use an eye tracker / head tracker for xbox series, it seems like a great tool to have to make your sim a lot more realistic!

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  Před 8 měsíci +1

      This kind of thing is sorely missed for Xbox MSFS and would be a massive seller if one ever came out.

  • @pi.actual
    @pi.actual Před 8 měsíci +1

    My only gripe in MSFS is that the Head tracker Auto-Center control does not seem to work. Regardless of whether I set it to 1 or 0 it always recenters when I toggle tracking off. In DCS you can set it so that when you toggle tracking off it will freeze in the position you are looking and you can then easily manipulate a control. Note that in DCS there is no native control, it is done through Tobii Game Hub but there is no option in Game Hub to override the MSFS native controls.

      @@Huddison I have been able to lower my monitor too. I had to have it raised on some books so the Tobi could see my face/eyes. It was so high, it not only looked ridiculous, but was giving me neck strain ! Now everything is so natural and the Tobi is mounted to discreetly my Velocity Flight Panel with Blu-Tak ! Seems to work even better.

    Once you get a Tobii, you can never go back. It's especially useful for looking for a runway. I also use it for truck sim too. One thing I'll say, it's worth taking the time to play about with the sensitivity settings. I found the default settings to be way too sensitive

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@Huddison absolutely. I found the eye movement in particular to be very sensitive, to the point where it was becoming annoying. Looking to a different monitor became a chore 🤣 I dialled that right down.

      Another head tracking related video/device on it's way ;)

  • @TWOKDOK1
    @TWOKDOK1 Před 8 měsíci +1

    Possibly, the reason the tobii works better on the laptop rather than the PC is the same as Mark found in his video; you are probably closer to the tobii on the laptop, so the angular for the same head movement are smaller. If that is the case it ought to be possible to match the PC response to the laptop response by judicious use of the sensitivities?

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  Před 8 měsíci

      I was thinking the same after recording my video (that and my Laptop has a far higher spec than my Desktop PC).
      I do get good performance using Tobii on my Desktop PC, but like you mentioned: altering the settings slightly may bring it on par.

  • @rtocarp
    @rtocarp Před 8 měsíci +1

    Have you (or others commenting) used another / any other tracker and if so, is the Tobii that much better in terms of smoothness, responsiveness, etc. that it is worth dumping something like TrackIR? The convenience is certainly a major consideration, but is that all the Tobii brings to the table vs the competition? Thanks….

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  Před 8 měsíci

      I've used the Delan Clip a fair bit in the past. The main issue I find with The Delan clip (or Track IR) is the hardware setup and lighting:
      You need to wear a sensor on your head and the camera needs to be placed very precisely, in order to achieve good tracking - it can be very pernickety. These issues are alleviated with the Tobii.
      You also need (what seems to be) the perfect lighting conditions with the Delan clip/Track IR - again this is not the case with the Tobii.

    • @rtocarp
      @rtocarp Před 8 měsíci +1

      Thanks for the quick response. I have been using the Grass Monkey '240Hz Monkey King' for a year plus now and haven't had any issues with it. Whether or not lighting would be an issue...it isn't / hasn't been for me as I have my sim setup in a room with no windows. The fact that it - like TrackIR - requires the 'puck' to be attached to a headband or headphones is an inconvenience. I'm still not sure that inconvenience warrants spending money on the Tobii (? is it a want or a need ?), but good to know that content providers like yourself recommend it. Once again, thanks for your response and for the great contribution you make to the MSFS community through your YT channel.

    Thank you old Buddy ...do you read minds? I've been considering buying a Tobii ...after using & loving TrackIR (it failed & I won't give a second one a chance). I think this will be my next purchase. Have you heard of some software conflicting the operation of head tracking. I bought a TrackIR ...it worked great on my system for a few days but went wonky. I still own it because it works perfect on my other two PC's. But this is my triple screen gaming rig ...an Alienware ...& I think Alienware's software interfered. Any opinion? Addressing the wide screen issue ...I run three ...43 inch displays & many would think head tracking is unnecessary on my system. It was the perfect addition I thought ...especially looking around the cockpit. ...just an opinion from experience. I live in Canada ...does your link to Tobii sell to us over here & would they actually ship it from there???
    Thanks again Huddison.

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  Před 8 měsíci

      I'm unsure whether Alienware software may be interfering with your headtracking; I've had no conflicts using my Tobii.

    Mark (or others), I would be interested in your opinion on the Tobii eye tracker vs VR. I fly exclusively in VR and wonder how the eye tracker stacks up against using VR in MSFS 2020?

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  Před 8 měsíci

      I have both: VR is definitely more immersive, but I struggle to stay in it for more than an hour.
      Tobii is far more comfortable to use in that aspect and almost as immerdive.
      My name is James btw; the other chap is Mark ;)

    Will the eye tracker work if placed on the top edge of my 34 inch curved monitor? I mention this because my control setup is higher than the bottom of the screen.

    • @Huddison
      @Huddison  Před 8 měsíci

      With the head tracking you really don't even need it. Eye tracking is still great for airliners though. You have the choice to mix and match head & eye tracking. I have a VR headset gathering dust now.

    It is so sad that we, xbox users cant use eye tracker for MSFS. Afaik there is crazy and custom option to use a kind of eye tracker system by using Mii2 IR remote strapped on top of your head...
    @Huddison it would be great if you specify somewhere in your videos when the topic is only applicable to pc (or xbox if that happened)
    Thanks and best wishes
