I have this engine in my 2018 F150. Has been great to 140k miles. About to replace plugs and coils. Has plenty of power for what I do. Tow a 19’ boat about 20 times each year to the lake. I have also hauled heavy in the bed with it too. Truck does just fine for anything anyone short of some sort of business owner hauling or towing a lot.

Yeah, if you're not towing heavy then it's fine. Most people want 400+ hp to go to the grocery store. Stupid. I've got the 5.0 but actually use it for a work truck.
I have this motor in my 2018 XLT. I was hesitant at first to buy it but I went ahead and bit the bullet. I’m now about to hit 64K miles on my truck and have never had any issues with it. I’ve used the 4x4 on the beach, light trails, and even in the snow that we had here in Texas last year. I honestly love my truck and am so glad I ended up buying. I mean sure, the v8s and turbo charged guys will smoke me off the line, but in the 5 years of having my truck, I haven’t tried to street race a single truck, bike, or sports car so I guess I’ll be just fine in that department
It's a slightly modified version of what they used in the V6 Mustang. (and only 50hp less than the mid 2000s V8) It's essentially bulletproof as there's little to go wrong with it. The main problem with the ecoboost is that turbos and heavy loads are a poor combination. Imagine going up a hill and the turbo keeps kicking in and out ( as it will do to try to maintain speed as there's a roughly 150HP difference with the turbo off ) - this is just adding drivetrain lash as the torque goes from almost nothing (granny mode) to full power. It just shifts a LOT - which is wear on the transmisison you don't need versus a non-turbo engine. Throttle and turbo lag is quite noticeable as well. Versus a V6 or V8 that just plugs along. And to add insult to injury, you need premium fuel or you lose a lot of power. It will run safely on 87, but it's not happy about it. At 3K ft elevation where I live, all of the ecoboosts are way down on power to keep from knocking. So.. ~300HP on normal fuel and no issues at all versus ~350hp on an unhappy ecoboost on regular gas, complete with throttle and turbo lag and more driveline wear... I mean you Can run premium fuel in it, but it's almost 40 cents a gallon more expensive where I live, killing any economy advantage over the V8, even.

Try 20 times in a row to get this turd to have a "decent" takeoff and it will NEVER happen. Even with traction control and the advanced stability off, it still sucks donkey balls for takeoff! When it has 290 hp it should be taking off something vaguely similar to the old 5.0 mustangs that only had 230. Yes its heavier but it just DOES NOT want to go anywhere until you are over 2300 rpm. I initially thought that I might have regretted ordering the 3.3 but couldn’t be happier after a year and a half. Cam phaser job on the 2.7 is around $3000. I'm considering this 3.3. I won't be towing over 7,600 pounds anyway and I like to keep a vehicle as long as possible.
Not gonna lie I would get this engine. It's not terrible if you just want to drive around or haul stuff like hay and appliances. For engine noise when accelerating, it's actually pretty throaty.
Considering the fact that it's a naturally aspirated port injected v6, with regular oil changes it will probably be just as reliable as the old 2 valve
I have this engine in my 2020 F150 adequate power and smooth rev delivery the only issue is 0-60 kinda sucks and it’s not as perky as a turbo engine plus it burns gas almost like a V8 ram in the city but if you do lots of highway driving with constant speed this engine rocks

Love that column shifter! I like these lower trim, less appointed packages. I don’t think i could go with that boring v6 though. I would have to have an ecoboost. And that tag….not ok. This should be closer to 40k to make sense.
honestly, 30-33 is too high for the "base model" that is not in work truck trim. Inflation is a killer for anything to have any kind of real value anymore. Hell, you can drive a $50k vehicle off the lot and suddenly you are $10-20k upside down IMMEDIATELY!

Yeah, this is a good engine. It's not exciting to drive, but I don't care about driving a "fun" truck with Egoboost powah. I care about getting from point A to point B without all the additional complexity, that will allow me to tow or haul the occasional light load from Home Depot. It's a rather shocking case of Ford getting something right, almost immediately out of the gate, in a functional package. And if I wanted power, I'd just get the 5.0 V-8. The irony is that Ford could have dropped these things in the Mavericks, Broncos, Explorers, and Rangers, and provided a decent engine for a reasonable price, that would actually meet the needs of the customers buying them. Hell, this thing could have even worked in a larger sedan if they hadn't abandoned the segment. But one thing I've learned in the 30 years I've owned Fords is that the company will consistently blow off the reliable products they do create in favor of whiz-bangs that need constant modifications until the kinks are worked out, or they move on to the next gee-whiz trend.
@@1976axerhand I want to see facts, based on what you said. The 2.7 has actually been more reliable then both the current 5.3 and 6.2 with the lifter issues, and AFM. The only drawback to the 2.7 is the 8 speed transmission, which is being fixed. That was a issue. The motor itself is very reliable, and only got better with the second generation. It is people that are uneducated, and think a motor is unreliable, because is turbo charged.
Anything with over 250 miles is USED/a demo in my book and absolutely will need to be discounted severely before I even think about putting down my hard earned money.
right at the end of the video you're like the 27 is better and I don't see how you get that information. It's much faster but it gets much worse mileage and has real longevity issues. i'm shopping at this moment and I feel a lot more comfortable with the 33 thsn the 27 with turbo and I drove a truck with the 27 quite a bit. lots of fun, but turbos don't last, an automotive law of the universe. Bottom line. you make great reviews but I feel like the engine should be compared to itself especially since it's gone now
This is the motor I have in my 2020 regular cab. I understand that it's the base model, but I get frustrated at the lack of power almost every time I drive it. It's getting close to being paid off and truly that is the only reason I am going to keep it. New trucks are too expensive for me to accept. This 3.3 V6 will outlast every other engine this side of the 5.0 V8........Both EcoBoobs (2.7 and 3.5) are ALWAYS fun to ride, but like their fun "jiggly" name entails, these are "enhanced" high-performing shorter dates with no longer term commitments. If you need a light duty truck with lower end towing and a place to carry "stuff" in the back to the countryside, heck this is even better than buying a larger SUV!
2.7 is dog sh** and unreliable. 3.5 is horrible too. They are getting better but they aren't there yet. The best F-150 powertrains for reliability are the 3.3 and the 5.0 both are bulletproof and will last a long time. If you need to tow frequently get the 5.0, if not get the 3.3 most everyone should get the 3.3 especially those who haul kids and groceries with it.
Would be an awesome engine if it wasn’t 12:1 compression like the 5.0 which translates to premium fuel = 91 octane or higher look it up in your owners manual…. And yes the Ecoboost is the same… Ohh ya it’s “designed” to run on 87 octane… what they don’t tell you in that “design” is that it’s running empty on a flat ground in cold weather. In addition to costing more money for premium gas it’s also the first fuel to run out anytime we have a “fuel shortage” Long story long 😂. If you just want a work truck that runs on 87 octane 24/7 you have to step up to a 3/4 ton or higher because the EPA/ Govt isn’t dictating “fuel economy” As per usual when they get involved it sucks and is no fun, will cost more money and reliability goes down the drain…😢

@@greggau3093 I’ve been driving ford trucks since 2010 and had super duty’s and I don’t know how many F-150’s from XLT’s to limiteds every 6 months and never knew the 3.3 existed. What kinda mileage are you getting with it ? Decent power ??
@@FYMM69 average is 18mpg without a trailer hooked up. With trailer hooked up 15-17 depending on weather. Very surprised on that. The power needed for get up and go into traffic is plenty for me. It is though a 3.3 so you can only get so much out of that, yet it's really all i need.
LOL the check engine light just came on after i filled up a bit ago. hopefully i can scan in morning to see what thats all about.
Cam phaser job on the 2.7 is around $3000. I'm considering this 3.3. I won't be towing over 7,600 pounds anyway and I like to keep a vehicle as long as possible.
My thoughts exactly
Not gonna lie I would get this engine. It's not terrible if you just want to drive around or haul stuff like hay and appliances. For engine noise when accelerating, it's actually pretty throaty.
Keep in mind all the new f150s have engines noise pumped in thru the speakers though
@@d3adk964 nothin wrong with that.
I have this engine in my 2018. 29000 mile and it is doing good.
I hope it is for that low mileage
Reminds me of the power of the old 4.6, just wonder if it’ll hold the reliability claim it did
Considering the fact that it's a naturally aspirated port injected v6, with regular oil changes it will probably be just as reliable as the old 2 valve
Got my 21 2wd 3.3 because it had no turbos or ecoboost. Just engine. Tows 6000 lbs all day. Almost 30 on the freeway too. ( not whille towing) Love it
I have this engine in my 2020 F150 adequate power and smooth rev delivery the only issue is 0-60 kinda sucks and it’s not as perky as a turbo engine plus it burns gas almost like a V8 ram in the city but if you do lots of highway driving with constant speed this engine rocks
I do a lot of highway driving. What mpg on hyw? 4wd? Gear ratio? Thanks 👍
@@63impfx45 I sold the truck and moved to a ram v8 here’s the comparison chart sorry if it ain’t miles I’m Canadian 😂
but I was averaging 15 per 100km on ATs on the highway
On all seasons like wrangler HTs 12.5 on 100km
In the city add 2L to each number
I had 6 speed with base gear ration
Does yours have the 10 speed transmission?
I get 22mpg in the city with my '18. 2wd 6spd xlt
I paid $40k for my 22 extended cab XL stx with the same engine. Love it so far. Came with about as much upgrades as you can get before hitting the XLT mark.
Buy one Ben. You will be glad you did. Good solid engine. Cheers.
I would take this over the 2.7 for longevity. I don't pull, don't need the turbos, I'm thinking about getting an ext cab with this motor.
I have exact same truck with a 3.3 NA. XLT W/XTR Extended cab edition. GOOD TRUCK! no issues
I have a 2019 standard cab shortbed with this engine and 4 wheel drive. It has plenty of power. A couple of times it has run rough for a few seconds after filling it up with e-85. But right now e-85 is a 1.71 a gallon!! I get a paltry 16.1 mpg on the highway! Not good. Overall I love my f-150. It has 70,000 miles on it and has been very reliable.
I’m sitting at 128,700 on my 18’ with this engine I tow with 3 to 4 times a week with about 5k to 6k loads it will get the job done for 90% of 1/2 ton truck buyers I also have a 2 1/2 leveling kit and 10 ply tires and 3 inch rear block 18 to 19 mpg on hwy with about 15 mpg towing
That's awesome, what maintenance have you done? Tranny, diff etc. Have the same engine and just trying to match the mileage
I run ethanol free gas when I can there’s a couple gas stations close by that offer it, Oil changes every 3k miles went to full synthetic at 80k miles, water pump at 90k a bearing on a pulley went out, alignments twice it’s due for one now , tranny flushed once , radiator flush once, diff oil changed once, air filter every 30k & cabin filter twice currently changing cv axles now…I take my truck to quick lane at the Ford dealership and I try to follow their recommended schedule maintenance plan but some I do myself
The only major repair I had was my rear diff and it happened 2 weeks after I had the oil changed in it don’t know if it was because of that or coincidence
Dude, thanks for the reply. I appreciate any input that helps my truck last as long as yours
There is a lot of videos up saying the ten speed has unresolved shifting issues.
7:12 Semi driver here, and yes you could have made that turn. No way a 260" wheelbase semi could have though.
BEN PLEASE REVIEW A REGULAR CAB F150!! Preferably with the 5.0 😃
you can oder it about 45.000
Ford pricing is out of control. They can keep their over priced inventory 😏
Ranger has equal power and torque. 10k less msrp. Just a thought...
In here reading all the replies.. I just purchase the f150 with the 3.3 LOADED 2023 for 41K out the door, If you shop around... I got mine because the city ordered thirty of them and they rejected the 6.5 beds,, so I got it for fleet price.. 3.3l , everything in it.. Got bed liner too hitch and 33 gallon fuel tank, included. I love it!! Plenty of power for me. I do not haul anything but I do long distance trips.. I have not gone anywhere yet but from the dealer to my home.. 15 miles on the clock... Yeah this is a keeper. And no its not in oxford white! ;)
I didn’t know this engine existed. Ford has an Ecoboost i4 that’s rated at 300 hp.
I like the simplicity of it.
53K!!!!! Noooooooooo no no no no........
Ive got the 2018 3.3L xlt super crew
Im almost wanting to go trade for the Coyote engine or the 3.5..
Only complaint i have of the 3.3 engine.. its slow doing the 0 -100km/h
Not alot of acceleration power
I’m sure the 3.3 V6 is a great reliable engine but for 53K it should have the 5.0 ?
Still nice looking truck
At 53k it should be loaded with the 5.0 and even then that’s too expensive
Wondering what's more reliable. This, the ram v6, or the silverado turbo 4 🤔
The Silverado 4 banger is by far the worse engine...
ram 6
@@1976axerhand. Based on what lol? You should research something, before commenting.
@@calebniederhofer6529 because my research does not fit your narrative is that why? tons of articles and people who owned them say they are crap.
My God its got over 5k miles and they're selling this truck new?
Anything with over 250 miles is USED/a demo in my book and absolutely will need to be discounted severely before I even think about putting down my hard earned money.
why would they put the spot for the key there, that drives me nuts
right at the end of the video you're like the 27 is better and I don't see how you get that information. Bottom line.
you make great reviews but I feel like the engine should be compared to itself especially since it's gone now
53k for a xlt? They're smoking something at these dealers
Haiti if you could do a video on the absolute base model Dodge ram
Genial!!!
This is the motor I have in my 2020 regular cab. I understand that it's the base model, but I get frustrated at the lack of power almost every time I drive it. It's getting close to being paid off and truly that is the only reason I am going to keep it. New trucks are too expensive for me to accept. Mine has been problem free for 3 years and 32k miles so unfortunately, I can't justify buying a new one with the 2.7 or 5.0.
Hello! Have you tried the sport mode. 👍
Male giggalo
@@luisgonzalez8929100% agree, keep mine in sport around town etc. only use normal mode on the interstate. Sport mode is the key, changes everything about the truck imo.
@@oldkicker8958
“Changes everything about the truck”; very well said! 👍
This 3.3L engine has around 295 hp; in my opinion nothing to be ashamed about it.
I used to have a 1979 Camaro Z-28 4 speed manual with a v-8 350 and (plenty)250 hp engine.
By the way, i’m almost sure that Camaro was heavier than the 2020 single cab 3.3L F-150.
@@luisgonzalez8929 had a 96 F250 with a 460, not much of a difference in HP. Funny comment about your Camaro!
No way id pay 50k for that. Get the XL for 37k then spend the 5k in upgrades yourself save some money
Good video. I dont get why you keep laughing at this truck throughout. Its perfect except it has automatic transmission and costs double what it would yave 4 years ago.
just get a 12 genth with a 3.7 for 1/4 price and just durable.
2022 XL two wheel drive is $35k. Just way too much for a regular cab 4x2
The price for this truck is atrocious, highway robbery.
I don’t think I’d spend that much on a truck with a switch blade key. Call me crazy.
I would take it every time over any eco boost.
Insane pricing.
That not a 23
Too much money for 3.3 liter v6
Better than an ecoboost which has problems from all the extra pressure on the engine since its naturally aspirated
I’ve had that in my 2019 f-150 good for fuel economy garbage for anything else
53k 😂🤮
Haha it's funny people get weird over price and think they know what it should cost.. those fine people that build them in Michigan get paid top doller.. deal with it
Nice truck, but way overpriced!!
The v6 f150 super crew is dog sh@*?
If you are wanting a truck to reach 300,000+ miles better look elsewhere.
I'm looking for 500k
Why couldn't it reach 300,000?
🔥👈
Scott, my 5.0 runs just fine on 87 octane!
@@martinchen3838 Truck engines that are made for 87 octane are around 8.5-9.3:1 compression at the most…Now that Ford has you convinced that a high compression high revving engine they pulled out of a sports car is made for a pickup truck 😂next Ford will try to convince you that a battery powered pickup truck is a good idea as well 😂😂😂
Engine is a piece of crap!!!! We have a truck in our fleet with that engine, my wife has more balls.
