It would be cool if companies like Ikea come up with an app in which you can see their products in your own house. Like a chair in your livingroom.
They do this through your phone already but in vr would be mad!
Yess, let the metaverse really take form! I hope a lot of companies will start doing this. And with digital ankers and Ikea doing this would be so sick!

It had to be done. I love my quest 2, but the prospect of a quest with 2x the graphics, more comfort, better pass through, AND ring less controllers? Sign me up baby

@@SteveKnows nah I deadass learnt my lesson when I held off on the new iPhone 15. I wasn’t sure at first and ended up wanting it after the fact because I do photography and I like having a nice camera on me at all times. But now? Unless you want the regular one your are NOT getting a pro series until MID November the EARLIEST

Cool, however, the compression reduction feature available only on the top cards sucks. I just bought an RX6800 xt, and this feature wont work. That majorly sucks the big banana.

I learned that I think I will have to get a Wifi 6E router... my current one does Wifi 6 (no E), and that extra bandwidth and latency reduction might push PCVR quality significantly with AV1 and new higher bit rates on Virtual Desktop...

My biggest seller: the balanced weight, Upper Body tracking, and pass through. As a VR dancer, that's huge.

I'm super excited for the quest 3! I haven't been able to play VR since my rift S went out of commission. I ended up buying an Oculus link cable. Unfortunately with Windows 10 and a 3080 I probably won't be able to do wirelessly to game. Definitely will be looking forward to trying some productivity work in AR
Cheers Steve, some useful info there. What I haven’t read or seen is a better way to organise all our games and apps. Maybe augments can be used as folders so we could have a gun for shooters for instance. A tennis racket for sports games and a guitar for music or rhythm ones. That would be pretty cool. I mean, I’d be happy with folders too like a smart phone has. There was a sidequest app for the original quest that had a better way to organise everything. It stopped working though unfortunately. I still can’t believe we haven’t had a software update to solve this major issue. Also, totally unrelated but is there a way to stop auto updates of apps? Run out of space and want to choose what gets updated. Thanks.
I wonder if that 4k capture will have the variable framerate issue the quest 2 has where you cant ever line it up with another video because the framerate is inconsistent

It'll be the best $500 you bought. I'm super picky techs person but Quest 2 for $300 is just a reality that is too good to be true kinda thing
@toututu2993 im not super techy honestly but i tend to keep my tech for as long as it will run, i dont ever really upgrade unless what i have doesnt work anymore (i had a massive brick of a laptop until it died on me and i finally needed a new one when I started college) so i decided to get the new one so i can hopefully stay up to date for as long as itll work since eventually the quest 2 will stop supporting new games and i dont wanna deal with upgrading before it actually dies on me hah
do you know if the air-link bridge will work better with the quest 3 vs the quest 2? or will it be the same

What I am missing is improvements on mixed reality capture from your phone, where you can see the person in the VR environment automatically composed on the phone. As far as I know this is available on the iOS app and utilizes ARkit. However, for some reason it is not supported on android, although there is the equivalent ARCore. I hope this will come soon.
On iOS it should be available from the cast screen. There should be a button that allows switching to mixed reality. Not sure how calibration works, but according to a video I saw a while ago it can even be used with a mobile and not stationary phone.

The Torso Traversal sounds good but I think that you brain automatically compensates the hand oriented movement (you just need to get used to), I’m not sure how they would get that precision, since a torsos can be easily deformed by clothes and different shapes. 🤔
Yh I’ve also adjusted to this odd way of moving in games :) I suspect it will use shoulders or multiple data points
Do you think we could play directly from our Xboxes? As (for me) games pass from the cloud are not worth playing as too much stuttering.

As I have said many times in previous comments, I wish some one would say something about the fly screen effect if it still exists and what is the benefit other than storing more crap on the Helmet between the 128 and the 512 ?

Is there any hope for future benefits to having a quest pro? I jumped on it when it came out and now wishing I waited till the 3. Is the facial recognition the only plus side now to owning a pro? I wish I could trade it in for a 3.
Eye tracking and Ram are the other two things I can think of. It might be worth it to trade it in but don’t trust me, I’ve never had a quest pro lol

I got mine set to auto and looks great on my 2080ti.iv tried different settings and havnt noticed any improvements on quest 2,quest 3 might be different though

Hey Steve, I notice in some pics it looks like the three camera ovals on the front of the Q3 appear to protrude quite a bit. Just how much do they stick out, is there any lip to protect them at all, and how vulnerable to damage do you thing the lenses are?

quest 3 sounds awesome,dont know if i will buy it yet waiting for reviews but will either get 1 or pico4(maybe wait for 5) i have a OG vive atm so will be a big upgrade i think but not so sure what to get,gonna use it as a PCVR mostly and watch movies, only got a 3080 aswell ,hmm

Have a 40 series wifi 6e PC. Preordered a 128 gig Quest 3. Last VR headset I had was a Rift S that I returned. I'm hoping I have a PC option for games as opposed to installing on the headset. If that's the case the 128 gig limitation won't mean anything to me.

Im a complete VR/MR newbie and have toyed with the idea of getting into the Metaverse fir a few years now. I saw the recent Quest 3 vids and that did it !! Pre ordered and saved £20 by ordering from John Lewis...Im so excited and I'm feeling a bit sorry for my poor trusty PC too !

Do the tutorial. When I got my first quest I kinda gaffed at doing the tutorial. Then I did it and I felt amazed, overwhelmed even scared. When your in these games remember you will be pseudo exercising, so have water and snacks available.

For me, I am waiting to hear about image clarity and screen door effect of the panels. I find SDE very distracting, but I don't want to pony up the $$$ for a high-end set and subsequent PC upgrade to drive it.
the increased in ppd to 25PPD would mean screen door effect is reduced by a nice chunk

The Meta Quest developer kit looks easier to work with in comparision to what I had to go through to get a hololens app to work somewhat. Hopefully it will be easy enough to allow me to drag an drop 3D models in the room I am in. Y'know take some of my 3D assets I made and be able to view them in AR without having to do a bunch of coding setup. Maybe there will be some prefabs to make it so I can do it quickly. Maybe Blender 3D and other 3D studio's can be rigged to view 3D object(s) live in AR while I am creating / editing them. That includes a virtual plane / screen of my desktop screen. Being able to see the 3D model where I place it and and virtual desktop screen at the same time. If you catch my drift. Most likely will be wired but I'm sure that wireless can be setup as well.
I saw someone said you could use your quest 3 lika a monitor via usb-c but didn't say where that came from. Is that a thing? like can I connect my Steamdeck to the Quest 3 and play my games on a 2d screen?

Augments have me the most excited by far. But I think I'm going to hold off buying for a few months until the software is worked out - Oculus/Meta software support ages like wine and the Quest 2 makes me happy

What's it like with a cable on PC? How does that compare to the Q2? It's an important question for those of us that use headsets for simulators, eg MSFS. No one has answered this yet I think..

Let's see how developers will use the two-stage triggers. But body tracking looks even better.
2:35 Would be great for Flight sims as many HOTAS have two stage triggers so having it for people who like to use just their VR controllers would be great.

According to Nvidia, the 30xx has AV1 support, so hopefully that's included as well at a future update!
I believe the 3000 series the has AV1 decoding but not encoding.

My problem with Xbox game pass on quest is going to be the latency as well as the resolution. I don't know how good a 720p or 1080p will be on an 80-in screen. I have Xbox game pass ultimate and I am super excited to test this out. I am going to make a video on it as well
do you need to physically own an Xbox to use cloud gaming?, i've been thinking on getting a Series X, but if i can play Xbox games on a floating screen with the Meta Quest 3 via cloud gaming, i might just get the Meta Quest 3 and an xbox controller instead of getting the console, the idea of playing with a floating screen anywhere i want anytime i want sounds waaaaaay better than having to play in the exact same spot always
I'm curious what the latency will look like for the whole AV1 encode/decode pipeline. If encoding H264 at double the bitrate of AV1 is still quicker to do, then WiFi 6E might actually benefit regular H264 streaming more than AV1. It's great though how close we're getting to a proper wireless PCVR setup.
Guy Godin says with a 4090 that latency is the same for av1 as it is for other codecs.

I'm saying it would mainly benefit from the increased bandwidth of 6E, letting you increase the quality. In that case the efficiency of AV1 wouldn't really be necessary, especially if it would increase latency.

Didn't know the Quest struggled to decode high bitrate video. I've tested videos on my Quest 2 over 120mbps (the file was nearly 100GB), and it played without issue. Though of course I have no idea how much latency was involved, could have been pretty substantial.

@SteveKnows also curious to see if they can use the body tracking on the quest 3 to integrate arm swing or an alternative method of locomotion, rather than using joysticks... stick drift would be a thing of the past if you're able to play standing!

No preordering, but I already figured I'd need to upgrade my video card if only for the increase in resolution. AV1 encoding support just cements that. I'll be interested in seeing how AMD vs Nvidia perform with the Quest 3. With Quest 2 my 6600 XT was good bang for buck, but using link/airlink there's awful antialiasing and tearing/stuttering that wasn't there even on my 1660 Ti despite it's lower performance. I guess it's better AMD support than the DPVR E$ or Varjo Aero, who both officially don't support AMD at all. It's a pity, because AMD usually offers better bang for buck, but my most demanding use is VR and that doesn't seem to be a high priority for them (the sub par performance of the 7000 series for months while they fixed the drivers underlines that).
