    Other than getting the hose connector turned around (watch out for that one), the machine is simple to put together and use czcams.com/users/postUgkxfQauTxLT0JLSvqkq10rD79TU4k0Vz8zP . And very nice, too. I'm surprised at the power-it's more than we'll ever need, and we've not even used the most powerful setting yet.I've cleaned off a dirty concrete porch to get it ready for sealing, started to clean siding, and I know this pressure washer will be terrific for cleaning tools this fall.The only issue we had is we had turned around the hose connector, and it leaked. Once it was on correctly, though, we had no problems with the connection. Just remember that the end with the green knob goes towards the hose. It's obvious now what we did wrong, but not necessarily obvious at the time.

      patrick carey Hi Patrick, Karcher sell a suction hose with a filter that will allow the washer to be used with an alternative water supply such as a barrel or swimming pool, but you have to buy this separately. The suction hose is connected to the washer and the end with the filter is put into your alternative water supply. I have one of these hoses, but have not tried it yet.

    Hi Russell, great review mate. You pretty much covered all that is important for someone wanting buy this Karcher 4K unit. I just picked one up from me local hardware store 'Bunnings' Australia. Early 2016 Xmas present from me lovely wife. Been wanting to buy one for awhile but couldn't decide on which unit 3k, 4K or the 5k. Went for the mid range 4K. Not too cheap or not too expensive. I like how you started with breaking the unit in, then wash the paving, outdoor furniture & finally the car. I wanted the unit for all those reason. Also the 4K comes with the domestic use 5 years warranty in Australia too. Karcher should be grateful for genuine customers like you with honest review. Because you just sold few more units for them. Thanks mate!

      I have no experience of brick set driveways. A lot of people use these machines for them. There should be no issue as far as the brick sets are concerned and they should clean off nicely. If you have sand in the joints, the pressure washer will probably blast some of it out. Have a look on CZcams for videos of people power washing drives similar you yours and see how it performs and if there are any issues. :-)

    Hi Russel, I’ve just bought the K4 today I’ll probably wait until the weekend to use it, but I found your video very useful as I’ve never used one before. Just one question I might be daft but I haven’t opened mine yet do you get the hose that you attach to the kartcher or do you have to buy a separate hose. Sorry if that sounds daft but it’s all new to me. Thank you for a well constructed video.

    • @RussellPlatten
      @RussellPlatten  Před 6 lety +1

      Not daft at all Geordi. There is no hose pipe with the unit, just the hose connection. I have an unboxing video if you want to see what it comes with. It uses a normal garden hose with the usual connections.

    • @geordietoonforlife.1155

      Russell Platten Thanks for the reply I’ll have to buy a high pressure hose as mine is only one of those hoses that don’t kink and recoils itself but it’s only used to water the plants. Thanks again.

    • @RussellPlatten
      @RussellPlatten  Před 6 lety

      You should be able to use the hose you have Geordie. It only needs a garden hose to supply it with water. The high pressure side hose and gun come with the machine. So if your garden hose has a hozelock type connector at the business end it will be fine.

    Hi
    Would very much appreciate advice on how to clean staining from bird droppings. I have a Portland stone patio, very light and porous and the stains are brown and stubborn. I’ve tried washing up liquid mixed with bleach. It moves light staining but not the dark heavily soiled areas. Ive tried undiluted bleach, which discoloured the stone. I’ve tried karchers stone cleaner, no movement. I feel I want to buy a shotgun

    • @RussellPlatten
      @RussellPlatten  Před 4 lety

      Unfortunately, I have no experience with cleaning Portland stone. I would try washing powder alone and make sure it is biological. Maybe vinegar or soda crystals. Test a small area out of sight before committing to ensure it goes not adversely affect the stone. Sorry I cannot be of more help. A shotgun would really mess up your stone! ;-)

    Silly question, but do you need to close the water supply every time you're not using the pressure washer? For example after I'm done rinsing the wheels, I need to soap up the car. Do I need to turn off the tap in the garden before I rinse the body of the car with the pressure washer? Will pressure in the hose pipe build up?
    The reason I ask is if I DO need to turn off the tap, I need to go to the back of the house round the side and it's rather annoying if I have to do that every time I'm not using the pressure washer

    • @RussellPlatten
      @RussellPlatten  Před 4 lety +1

      No need to turn the water off. The power washer is fitted with a pressure switch that starts the motor when you press the trigger on the nozzle. You can leave the water on. :-)

      @@RussellPlatten oh thank you kind man. My age is showing, I know haha. I just couldn't make sense of it.....if the tap is still on surely the pressure builds up if no water is flowing. The wonders of todays technology.

    • @RussellPlatten
      @RussellPlatten  Před 4 lety +1

      @@lrossetter3960 Normal tap pressure is usually around 1 bar (14.5 psi). The maximum power washer pressure is 130 bar (1885 psi) and it uses the motor to drive the pump and reach this pressure. If the motor is not running the pressure cannot increase if the tap is left open. So you can leave it turned on.
      Please be careful with the washer, as water can be dangerous when it is at such a high pressure. Keep your hands and body away from the nozzle and do not point it towards any other person or animal. Please feel free to ask other questions if you feel the need. :-)

      Unfortunately like the motor industry Karcher charge high prices for spares when things go wrong. They have the market sewn up and make parts to their standard and not standard off the shelf hydraulic fittings. I have seen some reviews where customers find it cheaper to keep buying new pressure washers from Lidl's than pay scandalous prices to Karcher.

    Hi Russell, Great honest review. I've now bought a K4 after watching your review and I'm wondering whether you use the universal detergent for most things; car, patio furniture and patio area or do you swap the detergents in the bottle, depending on the job you're doing?

    • @RussellPlatten
      @RussellPlatten  Před 7 lety +1

      +Lynzie G Hi Lynzie, thank you for your kind comment! I use the cheap universal detergent to clean the car and patio furniture. I do not use any detergent for the patio. You can see in the video that the patio is pretty grim after the winter. I have started spraying a dilute mixture of calcium hypochlorite (swimming pool chlorine granules) with an old pond pump to remove the staining and lichen. This appears to have some effect, but looks as if it will take several treatments and take a long time. I have to keep the pets away for a day or two.

    Btw you've took "vast majority of the dirt off" along with quite a lot of your cars paint clear coat. That scrubbing technique is good for washing dishes, but not for your paint job. Next time please stick with the power washer and contact-less wash, you will save some money for paint correction :D

    Hi Russel, Thanks for a very informative review of the K4, just what I was looking for, I have it down to this and the wilks rx525, having had the K2 for all my pressure washing needs( I have had 2 of these, which have fixed a few times till the pump goes, I gauge this as time to by new) at the moment the Karcher has the win only because I have user knowledge of Karcher. I don't know if you looked at the Wilks as you made your short list too ? any info if you did would be of great help before I finally decide...…………..Again Many Thanks Russell

      I have never heard of the Wilks pressure washer, that make is not widely known here in the UK. I have used my K4 a lot since I purchased it and it is a fine machine. I think Karcher are a company that make good quality reliable machines. The Wilks washer looks like it is a decent machine too. For what it is worth, my short list was the K4 and a Bosch machine. :-)

      It is not designed for professional use, however it is well made and I think will last a long time, even if it is used a lot. It is not an expensive machine, so it would probably pay for itself in a reasonably short period of time. I would go for this machine if you only have limited capital and need to get your business started in order to earn money to purchase a professional model. If you can afford it, start off with a professional machine.
