  • Two third-period goals propel Team Russia to a 2-1 win over the Czech Republic in the final first round game for both teams at the 1998 Winter Olympics.
Valeri Bure and Alexei Zhamnov score the two Russian goals (ten seconds apart!), while Mikhail Shtalenkov gets the win in net. Robert Reichel scores the lone Czech goal, and Dominik Hasek takes the loss in the crease.
Game originally played on February 16, 1998 and broadcast nationally on CBS, featuring commentary by Sean McDonough and John Davidson.
NOTE: The game is incomplete, as it was included in the CBS Late Night broadcast and they would jump ahead at certain times. As a result, here is what is contained in the video:
    First Period: Complete
Second Period: Missing approx. 8 minutes from the 18-minute remaining mark to the 10-minute remaining mark; Missing the final 7 minutes and 31 seconds of the period
Third Period: Missing the first three minutes of the period; Missing the final 3 minutes and 35 seconds of the game (my VHS tape ran out)

49:37 - Great comment that perfectly tells you who Hašek was.

I knew how this had to end, but I had to watch anyway. Maybe that was the reason Czech won Gold, they had to take much more harder way because of this loss - USA - CANADA - RUSSIA.
What a hockey! And what a second goal!
P.S.: You know you are old as f*ck, when they call Jágr "kid".
