    Have there been an inordinate amount of house explosions lately?

      Not just houses but other things as well. It's kinda scary that all of these explosions are happening in random places in the country.

      It seems that way, but it's also possible that we just haven't heard about them in the past.

      Infrastructure gets old and eventually crumbles.
      Corporations are greedy and a few people dying is “the cost of doing business“. If you look at the numbers that’s a huge reason why prices have increased so much. It’s not so much because of inflation but more so a huge amount of it is because companies have decided they’re going to make up more money for money they lost during the pandemic.
      Social media spreads events like this that otherwise you would never hear about.

    If this was a gas leak how many more homes are in danger? Is it caused by old gas lines?

      Usually caused by a faulty gas furnace, HW heater, or range. Not usually a problem with the utility itself.

    • @dougcruickshank7393
      @dougcruickshank7393 Před 5 dny

      Gas leaks per se are extremely rare. If the installation is done correctly, there's no reason for a leak unless there's some sort of incident that damages the pipework. The default state for furnaces and water heaters is for the gas to be off and there are lots of safety features eg if the pilot goes out a thermocouple will turn off the gas to the pilot and the unit is then offline. A system that has been in place and operating safely is highly unlikely to spontaneously start leaking gas.

    All of these homes had to have been built by the same contractor who used the same workers and installed the same appliances to all the homes. These homes do not appear to be that old; therefore, I would assume that this accident was not the result of ancient or outdated materials or defects resulting from grandfathered code regulations. Every house in that subdivision should be inspected immediately.

    There need to be gas "breakers" and gas comparison counters that totalize consumption versus supply. Whine it cannot be done or is too expensive, but look at the results of a leak.

    • @delta_glider4362
      @delta_glider4362 Před 14 dny

      You don't need any comparison hardware. You need passive ventilation in any room with gas hardware so you couldn't get gas accumulation and if you paranoid you can install additional gas detector wich are cheap. And modern gas hardware have safe lock that turns off a gas if fire extinguished for any reason. At least I didn't saw any without that lock for a long time.

      I smell gas in my backyard, and they said they sent someone out in the detector didn't pick anything up. A few months later my neighbor smelled it and called them. I guess it had gotten strong enough for them to pick it up on their detector because they repaired it. I would have thought that if I could smell out their detector would pick it up but maybe not. I'm just glad it got repaired.
