Monopoly is the first and only game to ever get banned in my house as a child. Me and my brothers didn't like losing, especially to each other. Someone lands on red, pays a lot of money and one arguement later someone is a headlock and screaming at each other.
Who else had like 40 board games but you could only play about 3 of them because the other 37 didn't have most of the pieces

I remember playing Scrabble with a couple of guys years ago. I kept passing up my turns to throw back a letter hoping they wouldn't block the space on the board I wanted. My score fell so far behind the other two guys wrote me off then started playing each other until I drew the letter I needed. I spelled out EQUATING and got all these crazy points for it, like double, double, triple something, the game ended at the same time so I took all their points away from them too. They were all pissed. It was hilarious.

The mousetrap rant was the most real shit I’ve ever heard, I had that game as a kid and had it boxed up for years cuz I didn’t know how to put it together.
Putting it together wasn't too hard, but it never worked, and if anyone says it did, they're lying through their big fat stupid mouth.
I bought my mouse trap board game from the thrift store and it was missing about 25% of the pieces to put the whole contraption together. Or that's what I kept telling myself because I could never figure out how to get it together lol

its like chess but you can use recaptured pieces (it is also the most popular board game in japan, by the way)
and no, its not just chess with reusable pieces. The game has several new pieces, a bigger board, and many orders of magnitude of possibilities than chess.
If you're familiar with "crazyhouse chess", well, it is in my opinion that crazyhouse has nothing on shogi.
If you're interested in the game, don't let the chinese characters on the pieces intimidate you. There are only 8 types of pieces and 3 promotions. The complexity is in the potential of a game, not learning the pieces themselves. Learning the pieces can be achieved with enough practice. There are also different piece icon styles, like western, so if you're familiar with western chess, you can keep track of the pieces easily.
Shogi and Chess both descend from Chaturanga, by the way. They're like siblings. If you find the game interesting, you can learn how to play by watching a full tutorial series by a youtube channel named "Hidetchi".

Chess makes you feel smart when you win and in a good chess match you get very into the game and gets a little exciting, Battleship makes you feel clever and Connect 4 is a fun easy game to waste a lot of time and also makes you feel smart when you win.
