@Yashwanth O The computer technology seen on the ship was unimaginably futuristic, but now it just looks primitive. The wire-frame graphics are a good example of this. The main audience reaction at the time was to the jump scares.

This is the best landing scene I have ever seen in a movie. So realistic. The size and weight of the ship, its grimy industrial appearance, the lights, sounds, and radio chatter all combine to make you feel like you are on a landing mission descending into Hell. As with virtually every scene in Alien, it is a masterclass on how to do a film.

From what I read, theres a hidden aspect to the landing scene that few people realize. The Nostromo's landing on LV-426 was pretty gentle other than bending the landing foot's prongs - so why did the ship suddenly have a hull breach and start blowing circuits?
One word: Ash. He wanted to make sure they stayed long enough to find the derelict, so created a malfunction that took the Nostromo out for a period of time, but was eventually fixable enough for them to get back into space. And it happened RIGHT as they had stabilized, to prevent potentially crashing the ship. It was exquisitely planned sabotage... and the movie didn't give you a *clue* that that is what happened. It was in fact a big hidden clue that a) Ash was not what he seemed to be, and b) that he was an android capable of doing these sorts of extremely delicate calculations - but again, the audience never knows it until the big reveal far later.

Making the ship look really slow from the outside but then showing how that small angling of the landing gear translates into chaos in the cockpit makes the ship feel massive. Similar to how giants in fantasy movies seem to walk really slow but each stomp causes a lot of movement and the ground shakes.

The bishop chess piece moves in any direction diagonally. Chess rules state that there is no limit to the number of squares a bishop can travel on the chessboard, as long as there is not another piece obstructing its path. Bishops capture opposing pieces by landing on the square occupied by an enemy piece. 🤔🤔🤔 Ripley: a sight yet to be seen, record breaker. Ultimate. Top dog. In chess: the King. In this case: Duality. 🤨 King can move in any... direction. M. FM. (iswatitisprovemewrong)
