The objective of overhead lifts in strongman is get it over your head elbows fully locked and shoulders stabled. You can strict press, push press, split jerk, squat jerk (imagine that). If the organizers only want to see strict press, then tell the athletes to sit their assess on a bench
true. Strongman is all about moving weight from a to b, it doesn't matter what technique works. If they wanted a certain technique, like you said, it should be uniform.
Thank you! This is what makes Strongman great. Hooper has better technique so he wins Apollon's Wheels and Max One Arm Dumbbell, Tom Stoltman is a little bit stronger in the shoulders and arms so he wins Log Press and Viking Press
This guys just insane. For those hating on split jerk.. anyone was allowed to do it and he also push pressed his 5th rep Edit: should have said push press instead of strict
@@JTD472 ok I am a little salty, historically in strongman they've all push-pressed it, a split jerk is more technical which could make it easier to do. Maybe they'll ban it or maybe more strongman from now on will do the split, but mitch did make history today.
Nah he's ruining the sport. I liked him at his WSM debut but I've noticed his insecure politician personality since then and he's completely unlikeable.
It's called "Split jerk" and while it allows technically to lift more weight, it's a harder technique to master. I guess that for some athletes, it's simply not worth it to spend time trying to learn how to split jerk which will be time taken away from their overhead training.
I maintain Mitch is NOT the strongest. He is the most intelligent, most hungry, the most resilient, and most confident. If the order of events were reversed, most likely Matuez would have won the comp. He would have gone after Mitch and will know what to beat. Mitch is similar to Martins in his heyday. People forget Martins pre 2019 struggled a lot until he got slightly bigger and got more confident. Go look at Martins 2016, just average. Mitch is a different breed that has peaked with strategy very early. Alexi also had a stint similar before his injury, and he has never been the same.Folks like BigZ prime, Thor, Tom rely on pure brute strength. Tom, for once, is very laid back and anxious in comp. Evan is the bad version of Mitch overly overhyped to cause stupid mistakes and avoidable underperformance. Jardine, the woman comp champ, IS the strongest, just FYI.

Love how Hoop came out of nowhere and quickly made a name for himself. True freak.

Future of strongman. Incredible. Back to back Arnold's. Very rare company there

Split jerk seems to be worth practising.

This video inspires me to continue overhead pressing! That was an amazing performance!
looks like everyone will be doing split jerks really soon. Dude just set a standard for everyone to chase. Love to see it.
A few years ago he was running marathons
And in those few years he didn't get fat he just got strong, near impossible to not cheer him on, even if you would like someone to win more.
@@seanpittaway5341 I love Thor but I’m Canadian too, so I cheer for Mitchell! He’s the real deal
The Hecking MOOOOSSEEEEE! Let's goooo!
Dziękujemy!
Dam that was efficient as hell.

Epic …. !
Yeah Canada!
He reminds me of Magnus V in his prime. Not the biggest but a true all round, calculating athlete. 💪🇨🇦
I'm becoming a big fan of Mitchell!
Coming in as one of the lightest athletes, Hoo is once again disproving the myth that fat = strong.

Do you know what a strict press is?
Not sure you know what “strict press” means, nor “hating”.
There’s not a single comment here even mildly criticizing any of this

I don't understand why Mitch was the only athlete to push press. Seems so much easier!
Split jerky you mean

The MOOSE! He didnt even have to go for 1st cuz 3 reps would be enough for points. Did it for the crowd!
Go Canada!!!
Mitch is NOT the strongest. He is the most intelligent, the most hungry and the most resilient
He is the most gifted. Not the most intelligent. Most strongman are very intelligent
I would agree with that typically. But I think in this event he showed he was also the strongest.
He definitely has the best insurance comin in lighter
He got 52 points out of a possible 55 one of the most dominant performances in strongman ever

I did this in my backyard today, easily setting a new record of pressing 800kg for 10 reps under 2 minutes.

His technique is wrong. Its a push with shoulders. Not the legs
