I think you did well. Those threepences are a steal, a quid each when their silver content is really close on a quid each. In NZ its like $2.05 melt on on one. Even a 3d in Fine to Good condition has lost on average only 2 - 5% of its weight. The silver in one is 1.307 grams and a worn one around 1.25 - 28 grams, the really worn Viccy's maybe 10% less. My most worn halfcrown which was a thin disk still weighed 12.45grams or around 87% of full weight. Keep buying the threepences, because they are like you say old and they are genuine silver coins. Plus the George V 1914 - 1919 coinage is easy to get as mintages were stepped up in ww1 and many of them got hoarded in 1920 onwards for their silver content, so getting high grade examples is very easy. Along with American Mercury dimes, the George V 3d coin is my favourite stacking coin!

      Thanks 👍
Often it's surprising how little silver is lost even on a very worn coin

Lovely selection of coins there and a very good price for a 19th century half crown.
Collectors are diverse in nature. I currently collect high grade, mostly brilliant uncirculated coins, usually from the 20th century. Therefore I use Leuchtturm 2x2 coin holders similar to what your half crown had, and Leuchtturm coin albums. All coin safe non-PVC and decent quality for the price.

@@BitsAndBobsCoins Next year when I have it a bit more organised, I've only recently started using the albums and I have changed my labelling scheme partway through so I wish to 'de-mess' my collection before showing it off. I have a budget and the albums and sheets aren't cheap even though they are good value for the protection they provide. I have a big plan for it all so once I have two albums filled and organised I will send you pictures.

Go hard my Pommy brother!!! You will never go wrong with silver, but I wish you guys would purchase more high quality coins. They are always expensive, I get it!! but as a collector of well over 40 years, I would like you to not make the mistakes that I did

My more valuable and EF coins I keep in hard plastic coin capsules, the others I keep in ordinary coin flips.

I love your enthusiasm for these splendid old coins, but it hurts my old ears when you say, 'threepence'. It's thruppence! The brass ones were called thruppenny bits.
