What a privilege to listen to two friends, discuss something that they respect and love. I think anybody that watches this and wants to improve as a performer will benefit from it, however as someone who grew up around the same time as these two gentlemen, this resonates with me totally. As a kid, they were only two ways to learn. magic:A book. Personal instruction. What a wonderful conversation.
Be kind everyone! For info here's the quote I was referring to from the preface of RRTCM... "True art, we have been told, holds the mirror to nature. This is especially true of conjuring with cards. Complete naturalness of action, speech and manner is the essence of the art. There is a school of card conjuring in which the artist, by the mere rapidity of his actions, attempts to impress his audience with the great skill he possesses. We urge you to eschew this type of card work and instead strive at all times for a natural, relaxed, graceful handling of the cards."
Another powerful conversation. The quality of Alan’s thinking inspired a generation. I love discussions on the nature of close-up magic, and Chris is a real master and champion.
Fantastic conversation just like the first one. My view is don’t add any performance of tricks to this, please keep it a pure conversation. As an ex Pat this is such a marvellous trip down memory lane and such wonderful insights The format is a testament to the power and joy of conversations. There are plenty of places people can see tricks but very few where they can share a quality conversation. Best wishes Andy
There is great value in these conversations and I am not even a magician though I am magic! Keep them coming V look forward to the next ones & I liked Chris from the moment I met him! Thanks for the podcast. I enjoy them!
Michael & Chris - This was a thoroughly enjoyable conversation. Michael, you did a wonderful job directing the conversation into so many interesting areas while giving Chris the time to share his perspective on each topic. I was delighted by the fact that it was almost 1.5 hours in length (I could have listened for another hour and a half!). Lots of nuggets of wisdom sprinkled throughout. Looking forward to many more episodes!
Considering the time frame, I am delighted by your feedback. There are still a few things to improve in technical side of producing a classy podcast. I am learning and growing through this. Your comments are very encouraging, thank you.
Great conversation, Michael. Chris touched on very important points, for example the importance of close up magic. I want to thank you both for this magnificent conversation and I look forward to the next one!
Alan had quite a repertoire of strong effects. He loved performing The Sky Hook, Holly Coin, The Duzzit Card, Colour Stunner, Solid Deception, Card to Wallet & The Rising Card. He also did the best Bending Spoon ever. Cheers👍🏽
Loved listening to this discussion. Very cool...and always nice to hear about Alan Alan and his store in Holborn. I fondly remember his massive nail in the head! 🙂I grew up in Africa and the Middle East (but from UK) so whenever we were visiting the UK, my parents let me go into London where I would head straight for Alan's place...and where I met yourself Michael and other amazing magicians too. A superb highlight of my childhood experiences! Thx for sharing...watching from North Vancouver, Canada! Regards, Jules.
Wonderful episode thank you.
Love listining to high level conversation. Very engaging. Great content

That was great! I am looking forward to future episodes
Fascinating interview, really enjoyed hearing your views on the experience of magic
Great conversation! Thanks to both! BTW, the "Rope, Nut & Knot" is Giovanni Livera, American but clearly of Italian origin. See Genii February 2002.
This is excellent!
As both students of Alan Alan, both Michael and Chris are two people who sure know their stuff! An hour and a half of knowledge in one video 😀
Thanks Nathan. Much appreciated
