HP released an updated version of this monitor for $10 more, and it has speakers built in, 5ms delay instead of 7ms and the screen is bigger, with even thinner bezels!! Its called the VH240a, I used to have this monitor but upgraded to the VH240a and it is SO much better and almost the exact same price!

For slightly less money I have built a 9900k watercooled monster. 1300w seasonic prime platinum psu, gigabyte aorus elite mobo, 64gb ddr4 3200 16, samsung 860 evo 4tb, gpu amd radeon 7, thermal take core x9, ekwb radeon 7waterblock, alphacool xpx plexi cpu waterblock, alphacool d5 resevoir pump combo x2, alphacool 420x140x60 radiator x2, a ton of alphacool fittings, alphacool tubing, 9 noctua 140mm indu pwm 2000rpm fans throughout the rad and case mount points, ekwb clear concentrate coolant, and some hard drives for back-up and retention of older stuff & some media files. All for less than the stupid Apple Monitor and Stand.

I still use 1080p and only recently upgraded to a 144hz monitor. 1080p is a good standard for a lot of people. Edit: I use 1440p 144hz now. Never going back.
Ikr. I've been looking for a budget monitor under 110 with enough color accuracy, low blacklight bleed and good enough blacks bc I need it for illustration. But when I look for either 'budget monitors' or a specific model on CZcams I only find 'fOR GAMING' specially in Mexico where all monitors are considered 'gAMING' monitors

From my company's perspective? It's a 22" IPS 1080p monitor with HDMI for 90 bucks... That's basically gold for small surveillance systems that we sell. Normally a monitor like that goes for 120ish or so with an HDMI output. Also the VGA output is still a benefit to us since we can use a longer cable for the monitor if necessary without needing an amplifier for HDMI, which we have done on multiple occasions due to customer requests and building design. So ya.. price and features is why. Personally I have a 144hz 1080p monitor for gaming.
I was going to be so disappointed in missing this and then I looked up that price. Ha! $90 my ass. In Canada, if you need a good bargain go for the LG variant. The stand is marginally better tho still non adjustable, but it's $150.00 not $220! Good looking screen albeit small. It'll do in a pinch. One caveat, these things don't draw diddly for power which is nice but they also use a wallwart and that cord is short. A bit of a pain.
I bought this monitor before watching this review and tbh everything said was pretty much spot on. I had low expectations, and honestly was pleasantly surprised by how good the picture quality. The stand is definitely the worst part.
I could only afford a 4k 28" TN 1ms panel, 1080 ti ate my wallet and i now need a x299 mobo as i found a i7-7740x deal that was too good to refuse and i had enough in a shop voucher for it
Unfortunately it's often not as simple as setting say 75Hz in the Graphics driver section. It may say that but it wont actually run at that when you test it. Very monitor dependant and often other software is needed.
Jason Dagless through Nvidia control pannel you can lower monitor resolution and increase refresh rate it's not hard do I do it all the time and if u don't want to do that there are downloadable software that is free that can force a over clock on a monitor but it will most likely make your monitor die prematurely if u are talking about modding the monitor to gain a higher refresh rate that's cool and I would watch that
Jason Dagless I tried to put up the refresh rates like that (changing 60 Hz to 75 and stuff) when I started to get into PC building with my first setup. Did not take long for me to realize that it just didn't work because it would simply set the setting to 60 all the time. And one time I got an issue because I needed to set the resolution to 1080ip or what it's called for the TV and it just put the refresh rate to 30 Hz... I'm glad this problem vanished after a week or so...
I could see if someone was on a super tight budget and can't afford a $200 monitor. Buying used parts on eBay and old Xeon chips for $35, like I do. *cough*
I got the featured monitor because I don't need anything else. I use it for Netflix, browsing the internet, and a couple non-demanding games. An extra $100 to get something slightly better isn't worth it for me as a college student.
This monitor is great value for our money and does NOT actually look or feel cheap. That is the reason. Also, 100$ goes a long long way in developing countries.
My wife has 2 of these (one at home and one at her studio) and uses them for photography editing. Calibrated with her colour munki they are pretty damn good.
Claudio Lluberes yes. I have a dual monitor setup with these and the color accuracy is surprisingly great after calibration. After printing hundreds of photos I have zero complaints about color accuracy.
I don't think the prices have changed in like 4-5yrs, I bought an ASUS IPS 23.6? Inch IPS monitor in like 2013-2014 for ~$200 which also has some boosting/timing features that make it perfect for mid range gaming. I don't remember the model of it now but I think there were a few different options similar to it at the time except for the input lag/speed but that did have decent IPS panels.
Yes and no, cheap IPS doesn't mean iphone grade IPS, its a vague category for a whole bunch of sub panel types so there are actually many garbage IPS out there now, I've bought some cheap Asus and even Dell and they've had extremely poor viewing angles, the dell's infinity edge is the ultimate joke, a gap and dim edge make it look like the screens pulling away from you at the edge, its pretty awful design just to make a bezel a few mm thinner. I've heard that another reason for the picture difference is use of cheaper polarizers on cheap displays. But the problem is that on most low end monitors they won't tell you what panel type is being used, e-ips, ah-ips etc. I've returned a couple monitors that were almost as bad as TN, even 4 year old professional line HP like the z23i or z24i line still look much better than many cheap "IPS" displays today, the tech hasn't improved that much, only in terms of pixel density and refresh, but it hasn't trickled down to the low end yet. The Asus vz239h was so bad that as a side monitor you could see the gradient in brightness clear as day from the viewing angle. So always be aware, cheaps not always good still. A used z24i from ebay is a better deal than most of these, 24" 16:10, usb hub, full tilt and height stand and vesa to boot.
Yup, prices on IPS monitors have dropped significantly just in the last 12 months. You can now get a decent 24" 1080p 60hz 7ms IPS for just $150. I remember crappy TN displays with 720p VGA-only and 15ms response times selling for the same amount of money back in 2010-2011. How times have changed.
You should do a review on some budget 1440p or budget 4K monitors, as I can get a 1440p ips for $230 here, and a 4K for $280 here in the Netherlands and would love to know if they are good.

For anyone looking to buy this monitor i would recommend it. it’s super cheap for the quality, you’ll get a great bang for your buck. I’ve had mine for 3 years and overclocked it to 70Hz and it works super well
Used to work in a tech shop and customers would always start with "whats your cheapest and best ..ect" and i'd tell them cheap and best don't go together.

I don’t know why people always buy brand new monitors and other things that you can get cheaper second hand. I bought a 36 inch 1080p LCD (not so smart) TV. Works fine, no dead pixels or other weird things. 20 bucks (new it costs 450!)
I bought two Sceptre E205-1600's on Black Friday for about $130 bucks for both. I think I got a pretty good value for my money. It is great for work and it is adequate for gaming.
Linus, people use monitors like this for server rooms, raspberry pi's and logic/control setups from cysco etc. I believe we use the same monitors at work for experion & propecy to enter data logs and control inter-locks, control loops monitoring equipment status, check error logs & other functions. Really is a decent monitor for thin client use.

Not everyone can notice the pixel response time (the name is misleading, it's actually how long it takes for an 100% black pixel to change to 100% white) unless you move your 100% black cursor on an 100% white background like on a text editor where you just MIGHT notice a slight trail if you have a monitor with a very slow pixel response time (5ms+).

He is clearly aware of this, he often mentions it when they make videos. Often people are more interrested in the technology rather than in a buyers guide, that's why car shows have those super expensive super cars that nobody can ever pay for anyway. Same core idea. With a significant difference : what's 3000 usd today will be 500 in a year, and 200 in 2.
My first decent display was a very similar HP 27” 1080p Pavilion monitor. The Alienware QD-OLED display I have now is vastly better, but for me at the time this was a huge upgrade from what I had.
I picked up one a month ago for a cheap secondary monitor solution. Great value, very satisfied but you might want to do some brightness and color adjustment in the settings as it's not very accurate out of box
What the hell, who cares if it's a cheap monitor, a lot of people including myself aren't rich especially when it comes to building an already expensive pc rig...There are a lot of folks worse off than ppl like me that would kill to have a monitor like in the video...It's solid if you're at a tight budget.

Same here. Recently bought 2 Xeon L5640's on eBay for my server for like $20 a piece.
I got the featured monitor because I don't need anything else. I use it for Netflix, browsing the internet, and a couple non-demanding games. An extra $100 to get something slightly better isn't worth it for me as a college student.
I bought an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 used on Ebay for $20. Step up your budget game. XD
For $20 you could have gotten a Six Core Xeon X5650 with hyper threading.
Core 2 Quad is the best CPU my motherboard is compatible with, I believe.

This monitor is great value for our money and does NOT actually look or feel cheap. That is the reason. Also, 100$ goes a long long way in developing countries.

My wife has 2 of these (one at home and one at her studio) and uses them for photography editing. Calibrated with her colour munki they are pretty damn good.

Claudio Lluberes yes. I have a dual monitor setup with these and the color accuracy is surprisingly great after calibration. After printing hundreds of photos I have zero complaints about color accuracy.
makes for a good portable monitor it's cheaper than most portable monitors at 15.4" but you'd need a pretty big carry on to take it
If you want to replace an imac screen just rip it from this monitor instead of buying a replacement

I don't think the prices have changed in like 4-5yrs, I bought an ASUS IPS 23.6? Inch IPS monitor in like 2013-2014 for ~$200 which also has some boosting/timing features that make it perfect for mid range gaming. I don't remember the model of it now but I think there were a few different options similar to it at the time except for the input lag/speed but that did have decent IPS panels.
Yes and no, cheap IPS doesn't mean iphone grade IPS, its a vague category for a whole bunch of sub panel types so there are actually many garbage IPS out there now, I've bought some cheap Asus and even Dell and they've had extremely poor viewing angles, the dell's infinity edge is the ultimate joke, a gap and dim edge make it look like the screens pulling away from you at the edge, its pretty awful design just to make a bezel a few mm thinner. I've heard that another reason for the picture difference is use of cheaper polarizers on cheap displays. But the problem is that on most low end monitors they won't tell you what panel type is being used, e-ips, ah-ips etc. I've returned a couple monitors that were almost as bad as TN, even 4 year old professional line HP like the z23i or z24i line still look much better than many cheap "IPS" displays today, the tech hasn't improved that much, only in terms of pixel density and refresh, but it hasn't trickled down to the low end yet. The Asus vz239h was so bad that as a side monitor you could see the gradient in brightness clear as day from the viewing angle. So always be aware, cheaps not always good still. A used z24i from ebay is a better deal than most of these, 24" 16:10, usb hub, full tilt and height stand and vesa to boot.

Yup, prices on IPS monitors have dropped significantly just in the last 12 months.
You can now get a decent 24" 1080p 60hz 7ms IPS for just $150.
I remember crappy TN displays with 720p VGA-only and 15ms response times selling for the same amount of money back in 2010-2011.
How times have changed.
You should do a review on some budget 1440p or budget 4K monitors, as I can get a 1440p ips for $230 here, and a 4K for $280 here in the Netherlands and would love to know if they are good.

Kan geen linkje plakken in youtube, dus dan maar zo. Ik zit er aan te denken de lg 1440p met ips te kopen. of een iets duurdere miss met 27" ips 1440p

For anyone looking to buy this monitor i would recommend it. it’s super cheap for the quality, you’ll get a great bang for your buck. I’ve had mine for 3 years and overclocked it to 70Hz and it works super well

I don’t know why people always buy brand new monitors and other things that you can get cheaper second hand. I bought a 36 inch 1080p LCD (not so smart) TV. Works fine, no dead pixels or other weird things. 20 bucks (new it costs 450!)
I bought two Sceptre E205-1600's on Black Friday for about $130 bucks for both. I think I got a pretty good value for my money. It is great for work and it is adequate for gaming.

Linus, people use monitors like this for server rooms, raspberry pi's and logic/control setups from cysco etc.
I believe we use the same monitors at work for experion & propecy to enter data logs and control inter-locks, control loops monitoring equipment status, check error logs & other functions.
Really is a decent monitor for thin client use.

Not everyone can notice the pixel response time (the name is misleading, it's actually how long it takes for an 100% black pixel to change to 100% white) unless you move your 100% black cursor on an 100% white background like on a text editor where you just MIGHT notice a slight trail if you have a monitor with a very slow pixel response time (5ms+).

He is clearly aware of this, he often mentions it when they make videos. Often people are more interrested in the technology rather than in a buyers guide, that's why car shows have those super expensive super cars that nobody can ever pay for anyway. Same core idea.
With a significant difference : what's 3000 usd today will be 500 in a year, and 200 in 2.
He's comparing them to the cheap monitor in a joking way, and accenting how underpriced this monitor is for its performance.

I bought six of these for our office. They are just great office monitors when having a second monitor for solidworks is all you need.

My first decent display was a very similar HP 27” 1080p Pavilion monitor. The Alienware QD-OLED display I have now is vastly better, but for me at the time this was a huge upgrade from what I had.
I love this monitor, but I didn’t know that it was so popular. Got my first one a while ago and bought a second last year. Still love them both!

I picked up one a month ago for a cheap secondary monitor solution. Great value, very satisfied but you might want to do some brightness and color adjustment in the settings as it's not very accurate out of box
What the hell, who cares if it's a cheap monitor, a lot of people including myself aren't rich especially when it comes to building an already expensive pc rig...There are a lot of folks worse off than ppl like me that would kill to have a monitor like in the video...It's solid if you're at a tight budget.
I'm really glad that LTT doesn't do this kind of sarcastic condescending videos thattttt much anymore. Like, I get they're probably not serious about "Why do people buy X?" but it still comes off as deaf tone and out of touch with people that are on budgets, don't care about gaming, or that rightfully so can't justify paying upwards of 500+ dollars on a monitor. Some people just want a serviceable display that will work for their needs. It doesn't make a 90 dollar monitor any less worthy than a 500 dollar one.
