Any teenager with foliage stuck in their back wheel would be able to hold onto the foliage and wheel the bike backwards to sort the problem out in a few seconds. I wonder where that Allen Key is now, and if she ever got it back. Was it a 5 or a 6 mm? These are the question.

She should have held it and span the wheel like she did at the end. The stress levels she was suffering must have been huge. Difficult to think straight. Feel for her.
It would create a brake in between the cassette and wheel, therefore disabling the freewheeling action on corners. That would lift the chain off the front sprocket, and/or destroy the derailleur, as it gets pulled backwards. It’s kinda like having a derailleur on a fixed gear bike. It doesn’t ride correctly.
@@denverspin now you explain it it’s kinda obvious. A small amount of friction would be ok, but not all that. A dork disc would probably help if you have stuff between the two(the clear plastic disc at the back of the cassette)
i think its an aerothan spare inner tube that seperated from below her saddle and got cought behind the cassette. if you look closely there is another one wrapped below the saddle.
I can totally see how that happened. Once I drove over 2m of leftover telecom cable (couldn't avoid it, there was a sidewalk and cars coming on the other side ). By the time it took me to stop, it had tangled around the right axle and severed my brakes fluid cable. No more brakes for you. Good thing I know how to motor brake and use a manual van.
