My mother told my sister she was planning to object at my wedding. She gave me a heads up and we removed the objection option from the ceremony. Best decision for us and we have been married 21 years!
Edited to add: thanks so much for all the comments, my husband and I read them together. We also watch Charlotte together ❤️
    To answer some questions:
My husband and I were high-school sweethearts and were young when we met, he was 15 and I was 14. We fell head over heals in love from the start and were together for 4 years when we married. We have been together for 26 years and every day is bliss.
As far as my mother goes, I absolutely knew she would follow through with her threat, she never liked my husband. She was divorcing my dad and had blown her life up with an affair and when I found the love of my life, she objected to my happiness... when my amazing sister told me what she was up to, we had the option removed for her to make it about her. It was a lovely small ceremony of about 20 people, we were just kids after all. I've been no contact with her for a few years now, it's so peaceful.

Your father was trying to be nice, but also wholesome. The fact that he didn't want someone to be bound to a relationship they may or may not wanted because of the duty to a child can end up really unhealthy for all involved. And the fact that he said "We'll raise it ourselves" meant that he was willing to go through diaper changes and the terrible 2s all over again, just for you. That's a real family you have there. Nice to hear they still exist.

I remember one time a cousin was at a roommate’s wedding. When asked “any objections”, someone did object. It was the roommate’s niece, who was like, 1 year old. She toddled up to the groom, hugged his legs, turned to the bride, hugged her legs, toddled back to her chair, and sat down. Awkward silence… then laughter. Til this day, the joke goes that the niece objected, then gave her blessing. Still Fuckin’ funny to me, lol.

Okay, I had to look up some stuff about marriage in medieval times for a book I'm writing. Groomsmen were actually men who were there to protect the bride from her own family, and the best man was literally the best swordsman. The bridal party was there to confuse malicious spirits, and the objections were there for the standard reasonings of " they're not virgins, they're cheating, one of them isn't Catholic," all the stuff medieval people worried about. Soo... Yeah!

For the story where the cousin interrupted the wedding to come out of the closet, there was actually a clarification/update. The cousin was already out of the closet to his friends and family, who were also wedding guests. Unsurprisingly, most of the people at the wedding already knew and the few that didn’t also had no idea who the cousin was and didn’t care. Best reaction I ever watched to an objection (and weirdly, been to ~3~ weddings where that happened) was the bride's ex showed up, drunk, and actually bull rushed the groom yelling he was getting her back and would kill the groom publicly to prove it. Without a word, 2 of the groomsmen stepped in front of both the bride and groom, grabbed him, picked him up by his pants and collar and simply ~carried~ him out screaming. They might have 'accidentally' knocked him headfirst into half the pews on the way down the aisle (ALL of the groomsmen were military and the two who grabbed him were MP's and HUGE bruisers. We're talking 6'5 and 6'6 and built like tanks.) Best part of the whole thing was when they stopped at the parent's aisles and politely asked both ~mom's~ if they had any suggestions. Both mothers stood up, smoothed their dresses, smiled thru clenched teeth, looked at each other, told everyone 'just a moment, we'll be right back' and walked out with the screaming idiot and his carriers. 'Technically' I'm not sure what happened, but I do know they both came back in less than 5, there had been a fair bit of yelling from the backroom, some rather impressive thunking sounds and I took the groom's mom quietly to a walk-in urgent care AFTER the ceremony because her hand had started to swell and was discovered to have cracked 2 bones in her hand. Ceremony went on, granted with a bit of nervous twitchery on everyone's part. Bride ended up sending both mom's massive flower arrangements from the honeymoon, the groom sent the mom's rather spiffy pairs of boxing gloves and both mom's got coupons for classes at the local boxing ring from the groomsmen...

Never had any crazy wedding stories. For my wedding we chose to have an Alice in Wonderland theme. My husband had a cane, top hat, and of course tails for his tux. My wedding dress was strapless so my Grandma crocheted beautiful straps for it. And I also had an evening dress (the total cost of both dresses including alterations was less than $450). All of the bridal party got individual one cup tea pot/cup, that I painted to make it look like they had cracks and chips (similar to the Mad Hatter's tea parties). We also had imagines from both Disney versions along all the walls. And for party favours my Mum and I made a couple of different homemade jams that we decorated in a couple of layers of mesh and cute little stickers. My husband and I have been married for almost 9 years now.
Then a couple of years ago my sister got married and they had a Ninja Turtle theme. Each set for the bridal party was a different Ninja Turtle colour. And they had the Ninja Turtle weapons made for a photo shoot. They also did pizza for their dinner.

The donors family had also given the recipient some of the donors ashes, so whenever the recipients family goes on vacation, they take along the donors ashes and sprinkle some during their trips. The donor and recipient were actually very similar in regards to hobbies, sports, cars, etc and were only 5 years apart in age (recipient 17 & donor 22). We apparently almost had a big announcement at our wedding.
One SIL was sulky all day and left the reception early without saying goodbye to us. MIL then told us SIL was pregnant and we should thank her for keeping it quiet so we could have the focus on us.
From what another SIL said awhile ago, preggo SIL had been thinking our wedding shower or wedding would be the best time to share, but she was told not to by her parents. She was approx. 2 months along at the time and never did any kind of announcement about the pregnancy later, so I guess it wasn't worth announcing if it didn't steal the spotlight from someone else??

I honestly have to wonder if the intent is to steal the spotlight. Logically it's just timing and opportunity. You're kind of out of the woods for losing it, everyone's together in one place and you're probably besides yourself happy about it and tired of holding it in. Weddings are supposed to be about family as much as they are about the couple. Personally, if it was my wedding and I knew my SIL was expecting but hadn't announced, I'd talk to her and get her permission to share the good news after the cake and speeches and surprise her with a mini cake or trinket - especially if I like her. I just can't wrap my head around being so self centered that I can't share someone else's joy.

She had other chances to tell her extended family, they all live in the same small town and have regular family meals, but she never did.
Unfortunately, this particular SIL is always pushing to be the center of attention. She wore a white dress to her sister's wedding (not a fancy wedding dress but still white) and she knew it would bother her sister. She has weaponized her children so that if you disagree with her on anything, she won't let you see them. We were all in trouble for attending another SILs wedding out of country when she couldn't, because she wouldn't take the time to get one of her kids a passport. The in-laws would have paid all the expenses and we would have helped with the kids traveling, but none of that happened because she just wouldn't do the paperwork because she didn't want to, for months. Then she said she expected someone else to stay behind with that kid so she could attend. No one was willing to do that (non-refundable flights and their sister'swedding) so none of us were allowed to see her kids for "making her miss the wedding." It's so messy.

Fun fact: In Italy (and other Catholic countries) banns or “publications” of marriage were posted on the town hall’s doors three times leading up to the wedding to inform the public and allow for objections. The marriage records mention if any lawful impediment was found (like degree of blood separation, which would require a bishop’s dispensation) or if there was an objection. I once found an objection written up to an 1860s-ish wedding where the mother of the groom went on about how the bride wasn’t good enough for her son because she was poor and on and on. Super pride and prejudice. It was about five pages handwritten objection.

The registrar is the only one who can legaly wed two people. If you are wed by a priest only, you aren't married at all (at least not in the eyes of the state).

Dude, I was at a wedding where the bride herself objected several times. It was the most miserable wedding I have ever seen - and I'm a wedding photographer. On this particular day, I was also a friend/best woman and bride's driver and she asked me to act as a sort of a Rottweiler, because she was an orphan and the groom's family was overwhelming her on every step. No, it was not an arranged marriage, she was an independent, educated adult with a good job. Right out of the gate the groom's mother prepared a feast just because the bridge asked for no feasts and we had to sit in the car in the rain - her and I - while people ate and got drunk. Then there was a civil ceremony, where she got upset the man was named first and we had to run out and sit in the car in the rain until she calmed down. Then there was the religious ceremony where the priest kept talking about children and she ran out and we had to sit in the car in the rain until she calmed down. The dinner bit was okay, laughing and dancing, but something happened on the way back to the house, because she called me just as I was leaving town, that she's locked herself into the bathroom, talking to the priest on the phone and wants the marriage annulled. I drove back and the groom was really just completely despondent at this point, you could see he missed his mother, but he wasn't necessarily a bad guy. They had a nice house and for a few years, I think, a nice marriage, couple of kids, dogs, they bred kestrels - they were both vets. I cut ties, though she did call me a few years later to let me know she's divorced because he abused her and as the best woman, I should know. I had to admit I honestly don't give a flying fuck anymore.
