  • Wizards & Warriors X The Fortress of Fear for the Game Boy is a sequel to Ironsword, and a short and challenging platformer that condenses the formula of the first two NES games. That title screen music is some of the best I've heard on the Game Boy, and this one was one tough adventure! 🍖
The introductory animation and outro text were created and designed by Saad Azim.

"It sparks feeling of hope and adventure in me which is perfect for a game that eats away little pieces of your soul every time you die.

I was looking forward to this after seeing you talk about it on twitter. I inherently love most GB games that try and squeeze as much as they can out of such limited hardware, but this game was just too unforgiving for me. The jumps that have you disappearing offscreen were just too much. I'm happy to see such a detailed review of it though. Thank you for taking the time

Back in 88 when me and my friend got game boys for Xmas, he got this game and we would trade often. I liked this game more than he did, and I played it a lot! It surprises me how well I remember it all these years later! I never beat it and I don’t know that I got that far even, I just remember playing the balls off it and feeling really frustrated. I always liked that challenge though. I love this game, and I’m glad you reviewed it!

It's nice to see a positive review on this game, for once. Given when it was released in the Game Boy lineup (one of the first titles), an action platformer was a much-needed change of pace vs. all the static single-screen games and slow-paced puzzle games that most development studios started with.

And yet, through it all, I still enjoyed the main music score! Thank you for this fun and thoughtful video of a game which I never would have heard about otherwise.

I can't believe that I beat this game back when it was initially released.

The jumps remind me of frustrating ones in Simon's Quest and Castlevania the Adventure.

I love this GB game as I have fond memories of going to Toys R Us with my friend with his birthday money and choosing this game with him. - And Im glad you mentioned that music... as I LOVE it... takes me right back! Classic... although I dont think either of us ever completed it lol

Excellent video Hungry! I especially loved how you put the failed jump attempts there with the giant skull face for the outro. Simply loved that you saw the charm in its difficulty. I honestly never knew there was a separate Wizards & Warriors entry on the Gameboy that was not a port of the NES version.

I commend you for tackling this beast! For a game so stacked against you; you seemed to power through it and make light of a lot of it. I need to pick up the NES games as well and this is more inspiration to do so!

You have a fair bit more patience than me, H.G. This is the sort of game that would make me pitch my Gameboy across the room in frustration.

So most nostalgia the moment I saw the sprite of Kuros. Least I can do is model it in Dreams.

Great video and great job beating the game! I haven't seen much of it past the 2nd stage. I originally got it for the title screen music, and to this day it's the only game in my collection that I haven't beaten, and I'm okay keeping it that way.

This is one of those games I wanted as a kid just because the box art was cool.
