  • The Crass Course in Freehand Minipainting is designed for beginners and experienced painters to get a strong foothold in freehanding designs onto miniatures. With my Freehand trinity, I guarantee you’ll get a strong foundation on how to Freehand whatever you want before you develop it further into your own painting methodology.
A FAQ and lots of guide tips are also included to make sure most of the common questions and concerns are tackled before you give it a try. Everything is explained as best as I could for the sub-twenty minute video. There’s also timeline markers for you to go back and review anything necessary.
That said, this is still a crash course. A lot of nuance with specific designs is missed, but those are advanced subjects better taught by the more professional painters. My goal was to make a video tutorial to get new miniature painters to try freehand with more confidence and less anxiety. If I help even one person get into Freehanding with this, it served its purpose.
This how to video applies to nearly any painter, whether it be for Dungeons and Dragons, Warhammer 40k, Age of Sigmar, Conquest, Marvel Crisis Protocol, or any other tabletop game where a player wants to go the extra mile for their minis. With this solid footing, anyone can become a freehander!
Side note: Still rather annoyed that’s the best I could manage for the overhead setup without having several more lights. But real-estate space on the desk is limited, and comfort takes priority when doing any painting. I hope everything else in the video makes up for the rather hit or miss quality of the extreme zoom closeups.
Crass Course: Ever want to quickly learn a few things about a topic but don’t have the time to sit through long videos? Enter Crass Course. As the name implies, it’s a collection of short tutorial videos focusing on a certain topic, whether they are hobby related or video game simulation based construction. I’ll impart the knowledge I know on the topic in a somewhat roundabout way, kinda like you asked the cool guy at the store how to do something that he does frequently. As the name implies, it's complete with completely unnecessary humor and inserts to make a blend of informative and entertainment.

To anyone who says this doesn’t cover everything: *_It’s a Crash course._* Of course it doesn’t. It’s designed and condensed to get a newer painter started with solid footing.
Also, I hate my overhead setup but it’s as good as it’s going to get…

I have been free handing for years and I would like to say I am fairly average at it. But this video, even though you label it as for beginners, still managed to give me some helpful tips that I have already tried incorporating into my painting. Great job and keep making videos like this, you have a rare gift of both brush skill as well as being able to present it in a funny and well-edited video.

Thank you very much for encouraging me to freehand. I just finished my first Breton symbol on a shield. Yes, it turned out a bit crooked, but I think it was pretty good for the first time. Thanks again, best regards.

I wish more people would try freehand, especially landscapes. I started to throw colour matched mini Bob Ross works on my space marine shoulder pads to spice things up and it has quickly become my favourite part of each process. Great video! Subbed and searched you out on Instagram to sub there too. Keep it up!

I appreciate the self-awareness in how often you type 'crass' instead of 'crash' in this, because of your humorous attitude with the profanity. I see it as something that just adds to your excitement in how anyone can do this, and you really want people to know that, and feel encouraged.

Funny, though that I've used this technique in making art on PC, but never in painting.

This video is currently at 517 views, I did not realize this until 18:40 seconds after my initial click. I dont paint, I have never painted, I never once thought to paint... DD Builds has somehow shown me the fun of painting through an incredibly talented video with perfect clips, Jokes, Pop up bird figure. I am shocked at the high show of talent in this video and I truly believe that DD Builds will build an audience.
    Just Incredible.
