2:19 I feel like I have to clarify that the 19/20 season was stopped early because of Covid and so it wasnt a normal season. So AZ did only concede 17 goals but it was from 25 games and not the normal 34.
Plus Boadu was only 1 goal off top goal scorer that season with his 14 goals as there was much less matches, so he was playing well

âSlot = Paisley 2.0, who was predicted by 99.9% of pundits to fail. He replaced Keegan (a la Salah) with Sir King Kenny & the reds won 4 UCL titles in 9 yrs. Slot will do the same or better as the 10 Kop-Kids Cup-Kings are amazing.
Arne won the dutch title & cup w a team of no stars & who had been down in the dunps 4 decades.
Slots win rate is an amazing 63%. âKlopp will always be loved by the world-wide red-kop fans. Biggest international fan-base w even famous guys, Sven Ericsson, Sweden's GOAT Boss, & Lippi Italy's GOAT, & Cruyff Dutch GOAT, all wished they cuda bossed the reds for just 1 season.
Just like Shankly still moves fans to tears of pride. Klopp is like that too for the red-kops. Fans get emotional talking about their love 4 him.
Shanks was father of the reds 1st great era. Klopp is the father of the 2nd great era.
He won it all, without cheating, in an era of cash doping & 114 FFP crimes by the other lot.
Did Mo lose the Quad? Did Hamas Isreal war destabilise Mo? If Mo rejects Africa Cup he avoids injury & LFC wud be Quad winners. It was stupid to get injured in Africa when he shuda fought w his Red Bro's 4 the quad behind a top boss.
Mo is copying past idol Kevin Keegan who had a surprising turn (& ran off 2 Germany 4 a new life).
Bad form by Mo. Before Klopp, Mo was an average player. (won few big cups)
Jurgen made MS into a World-class winger scorer.
Title was lost by Klopp being too loyal too lovely in his last Reds season by Not dropping Mo much earlier ( as Mo's conversion rate dropped from 23% to 7% after a rusty return from a tricky injury. Even after a long injury, Jota's conversion remained high)
Klopp was too loyal by selecting Mo but got slapped in the face by disrespectful Mo.
Klopp is a legendary top top boss in the class of
Shankley
Paisley
Sir Matt Buzby
Sir Alf Ramsey
Brian Clough
Marcello Lippi
etc
Mo is Not a world-legend like Messi, Maradona, Best, DeStefano, Cristiano, Ronaldinho, Cruyff, Sir Kenny D, Rush, Pele, Garrincha, etc
Mo is in the lower tier but fine World-class of Lineker & Benzema & Kane.
Mo must apologise!
The amazing 10 Kop-Kids Cup-Kings won a cup & led the title race without Mo.
Arne Paisley Slot will replace Mo Keegan Salah with the next Sir Kenny D, just like in 1977.
I really like Mo, but I also really liked Kwvin Keegan. It was a shock when he left, but it led to the arrival of Sir King Kenny of the North.
Jota's big chance conversion rate is world best 66% even when he has Injuries as per Sky Sports TV.
I'm hoping Messi will give the Reds one season, just one season, Leo, of your Argentina magic to win the Quad, which has been denied to the Reds twice now by bad luck injuries & dodgy ref calls, etc.
I'm actually an Albion season ticket fan, but there is something magical about the Reds, a bit like Beatles songs.
You wasted your time, this is a terrible video with no insight at all.
Not to downplay the effort JLA put in, but this wasn't a good tactical review at all. I think if you want some actual insight into Arne Slot, you're better off looking for Dutch CZcamsrs who actually follow the Eredivisie/followed Slot.
Don't forget to consider Salah in the 'Stengs' role whilst TAA will be the inverted right back. Salah is the 1000% better version of Stengs, who is basically the only one in the team who - sometimes - is allowed not to track back. If Salah stays that would be an exciting position for him.
The wingers in Slotball are mega important and one of the key demands is that they put pressure on the ball ( forward and backward ) ALL the time.
Minteh is the most aggressive presser we have, I don't think Salah can do that tbh.
Greetings from a Feyenoord watcher
My one question about Trent further up the pitch is would he have less time to pick out and play these sensational passes if he's in the mixer more, and let's say we're playing a team with a midfield overload, he'll be priority one or two for an opposition to crowd and shut down, compared to being a bit harder to reach at RB
Swings and rounabouts. Getting Darwin closer to goal and being a focus for attack might get more out of him. Yes you'd lose some of those over the top balls, but you might increase Darwin output
@@GlynnParry-bs6xg true, change is definitely gonna happen, just gonna be interesting to see where all the pieces fall haha
Good point, You definitely get less time in them areas but thatâs where he did some of his best work in the title winning season for Liverpool as an overlapping full back
@@antmanandthecod6073 you're not wrong like, I think my dream signing is Kimmich then have him and Trent swapping round with each other multiple times per game to disrupt oppositions haha
Heâs already priority one and the best creator in world football - the myth that he needs more space is constantly disproved by watching him play football đ
Been looking forward to this video. Nice one James!
Cheers, I have been waiting for your vid on this. Glad QPR done it for you!
Is there a "worry" (I don't support any of the top sides in England, so I'm not stressing over it) that the top teams in England all being managed by a Guardiola-lite or Pep himself will just result in re-runs of the recent City v Arsenal game in every big clash?
I know there's differences and subleties to each manager's game and the players involved, but every team playing slightly different flavours of the same style of football just sounds a bit bland to me.
I'm not a hater of that style either - all of the issues of City as a club aside, I really enjoy watching Pep sides - but Klopp (and previously Tuchel, Conte etc) all brought contrasts in style and tactical ideas to the big games that it feels like we'll see less and less of.
Great video as always, James. Great insight and the peppering of stats to highlight points is spot on!
I share your worry. The top three English clubs all playing the same brand of bland, risk-averse, possession-based football is bad for the sport, in the same way that monoculture / lack of diversity is bad for, say, a rainforest. I think it's an incredibly boring and un-Liverpool decision to bring in Slot. For me, the most important thing is retaining our identity and injecting a little chaos into a football world that is increasingly becoming overly orderly and soulless
@brahmani12 I don't know if I'd say Pep, Arteta or Ange's football is bland, but contrasting styles and philosophies going up against each other is a recipe for entertainment.
I've watched/read a bit more about Slot's style, and there's definitely notable differences in how his Feyenoord team attacks in comparison to the previously mentioned managers, but it's still a bit of a worry/concern.
As a Liverpool fan Iâve grown accustomed to the heavy metal football but itâs a dangerous blend of high risk high reward, not to mention potential for injuries (and LFC has had quite the number over the past few years)Of late weâre getting found out and for this system to work you need mids and CBs who are very comfortable on the ball with little to none misplaced passing and a world class CDM. Also thereâs only so much relentless pressing you can humanly do, which is why many top teams favour a possession approach. All in all, LFC needs to
reinvent its style while keeping its identity. Adding possession/control football to heavy metal chaos doesnât sound like a bad idea imo
@@joeboyes7567 you concerned because liverpool arent much of a team that plays something like that, so it is why most teams when they decide to rebuild themselves they wouldve just changed all of their philosophy entirely and start a new establish team for the club, in this one liverpool are doing on what they are interested in
Iâm with you. Ultimately the best outcome is if we can marry the two - to retain the exciting attacking football but be more solid and less naive defensively. I suppose the best thing to do is to remain cautiously optimistic that Slot does this without the pendulum swinging too far in the opposite direction

my absolute favourite person for football analysis
Arne Slot is a great choice for Liverpool. Best manager I have ever seen in the dutch league.
But still, filling the gap that Klopp is leaving behind is gonna be a major task. Almost every player that played under him is really impresed with how they are tactically prepared for the match. And most see him as the best trainer they ever had. I have no doubt in my mind he's gonna be a succes. What he has done with Feyenoord in the amount of time, and budget he had is nothing short of incredible. Of course Liverpool is totally other ballpark, but i think this is gonna be a really good choice from Liverpool
Also the growth that a lot of players make in his team every year again is really impressive
With how Slot transforms players, and changes their positions etc, I wander if perhaps there is a space for Darwin and Diaz on each the wings - if we were to sell salah of course, and then we bring in a new striker or play Jota in that CF role, then use that Salah money to buy a more suitable defensive mid and then maybe 1-2 other players, likely a cb ... im thinking Ali - Robbo/Konate/VVD/Brad - Macca/Szobo/Trent - Darwin(RW)/Jota(CF)/Diaz(LW)
Slot is a coach who has achieved great success with C players for years. He makes players better.
imagine what he can achieve with A players.
That isnât always how it works though
Heâs gonna be under a lot of pressure though when heâs managing a bigger team with better players
A player might not listen đ
â@@fwefizationthe players will listen
Quality video m8, its clear to see why they are looking at him. (least disruption) "BUT" I cant see it working with a few of the current squad. I also think Trent's time at fullback at Liverpool is done so a new manager could be a breathe of fresh air to Trent.
Great insightful tactical breakdown. I would make a few tweaks to the midfield. I would move Macca into sobo`s role and use Bajcetic at the Base of the midfield. He is perfect for that role and will cover ground better than Macca. With the premises of Salah leaving i would move Sobo onto the right. That was a similar role he played in Germany. I feel nunez at least needs one more season. He's scored the same amount of goals (33)that sadeo scored in his first 2 seasons.. And there's still 4 games left.
Agree with Macca playing a bit higher and Szoboszlai out wide. Iâm torn on Nunez but I think Slot will want to assess him for a season.
Nunez only needs counselling and Slot might want to keep him and work on him. He gets overly excited around goal
Sobo on the right would be a disaster lol
The video is not insightful at all.
i was waiting for this
Clasie was playing that game because of injuries. Geertruida as RB as well. Besides, stengs (RW at AZ) played on 10 at Feyenoord. Also both teams play as 4231 that morphs to 442 in defense.
So he was reaching. Waffling..
James Lawrence Alcott? Genius!
He said he loved to watch man city brighton and arsenal ... can see shades of de zerbi in the build up etc looks an exciting appointement everyone deserves a chance
Shades of De Zerbi?? It's entirely De Zerbi based. Position by position. This video was nonsense.
As a feyenoord support a I can add a dimension to your story. First of Slot like playing with Stengs as his attacking midfielder, as Stengs is the most knowledgeable about the way Slot prefers to play. So he will target a few players that he can really on playing the game that Slot wants. And Second, Slot approaches every game independent and can greater the strange option's you wheren't expecting. Playing a right-back (Nieuwkoop) as a right winger against PSV to stop the left back (Dest) because the play of PSV is counting on him creating more changes. So maybe he will play Trent more as right winger and play with Salah more in the midfield. But I think the role that Geertruida now is playing will fit Trent also really well. As Geertruida is more a extra 6 than a right back during games where we have the control over the game.
And I think you are right about Gakpo, Slot admired him during his time at PSV. But almost every season we have a good striker competition pushing both forward in becoming better and better. And the second striker will get enough changes, so Liverpool will get the optimal performance from both strikers.
Hey, this was a great video! One questions is where does the width come (on both the right and left sides) from in this set-up?
Play style looks more like Arsenal but more exciting. Slot probably wonât need to buy much players either. Potential line up with available players:
Bradley Konate VVD Gomez
Trent Bajcetic Mac
Diaz Gapko Szobo
OR
Bradley Konate VVD Gomez
Trent Bajcetic
Szobo Gakpo Diaz
Jota/Danns
Need to get much more physical at DM & sign a new CB. Cant keep putting the two most important areas of the pitch off till next summer when those areas are either injury prone or aging players. Just my opinion
What of Fabio canvaho
@@payneemelda3131 Slot needs fit players for his high pressing so players like Carvalho and Elliot will probably get game time most likely through rotation due to the physicality of PL.
It won't be anything like either of these. Play style is nothing like Arsenal
This has made me feel much more positive
Heâs such a interesting option really think he will succeed
The video we've all be waiting to drop.
This is a great analysis! Thanks! Im looking forwards to seeing how he turns Nunez into a top striker! And I hope you haven't given all the secrets away to the opposition!
It's actually terrible analysis.
@@honestyloyaltyrespect5893 thanks for your expert point of view⊠đ€Ł
I actually like the fact that we wonât be over committing going forward, gives Trent and Mac allister the chance to pick out runners rather than try and play round the edge of the box. We get smothered on the edge of the box far too often Bobby firmino was unbelievable in those situations but Nunez isnât and wonât be.
Great analysis video! My one push back is the narrative around Salah... two things 1. Had Michael Edwarss have been there overseeing transfers last summer, Salah may well have been sold, and it is likely he will be this summer! 2. Jota is the striker with the best build up, touch and finishing at liverpool..only have to look at his conversion ratio... he woukd slot into that position over Salah..
Jota is not anywhere close to good enough in the air for the way Feyenoord play, the literally play a million crosses a game.
@@WistiPurpleday oh and Salah is! What are you talking about... he is the best header of a ball between our strikers!

Hi James, what is the name of the app where you are building the lineup on?
one correction - tottenham interest came last summer after slot had an excellent year winning the league with feyenoord, not when he was first moving there from AZ.
Watched every one of these.
What is this Analytics thing (website, app, ...) With the players and arrows and so on? And am i able to get it myself?
What software are you using to design the team? Would love to use that for coaching rather than a whiteboard lol
Can't wait to watch Gravenberch next season.
Why? He's terrible and doesn't fit Slot's team at all.
Almost spot on, a lot of liverpool players already fit the system really really well, but imo we should get another cdm, like andre or moscardo because mac allister is best in the timber position because of his aggressive pressstyle and skill to make quick shortpasses in and around the box. Trent on cdm can also work since he has arguably the best long range passes in the world, but he doesnt have that wieffer/fabinho ish interceptions to break counterattacks
I would sell salah if there is a bid for 100m+ and get olise and a cdm in, and maybe another left footed cb that can also play left back.
it's not almost spot on.
Signings we have to make Pacho to play LB.
A 6 unless Bajcetic is going to play.
LW or RW Olise and Summerville
Get off the powder
I have been saying olise as well, but only if salah leaves for a big amount. Summerville feels weird when we have 4 players who can play leftwing. A new 6 can be andre or moscardo. And yes, a cb that can also play leftback, like pacho or inacio, or maybe even geertruida or hanchko. Those 2 are the only 2 imo that have the level of liverpool.
Lol.
I think Bajectic is made for the Weifer position, excited to see how he develops. Would love if he could make that position his at some point.
Also donât think Szobo is a perfect fit for the left 8, heâs technically good, but more athletic than heâs cute on the ball in tight spaces
czcams.com/video/O-_-XrhzJYo/video.htmlsi=Mx_4d4dc5qHrrZ2O
his changing of player positions is really interesting when it comes to trent.
Even Diaz who has incredible talent. Who knows where he goes
TAA should be more forward. His shots are pretty accurate as well. Need those through ball passing from him too.
love ur vids but have you ever considered doing a video like this for teams outside of the premier league?
Hereâs what weâve been waiting for since the news
Great analysis, as always. Wonder if Jota could play in the number 9 position? Great jump to win headers, neat in possession and clinical.
I think the one thing people sometimes overlook with Jota is also his willingness to drop off, pick up the ball and drive into the box, dragging opposition players with him and out of position. Even if he doesnât score or earn a penalty, this is crucial to the attacking press as it means the ball is often picked up by the 8s and recycled. Perfect in what seems to be Slotâs striker position. Got to keep him fit and injury free however.
I think it should be jota who plays as the arne slot type 9 bcz I'm sorry watching gakpo hold and link up play is like watching a donkey. let gakpo play as a winger
Great analysis??? It's dreadful
Full backs will not overcommit? Geertruida, our inverted wingback on the right side was a main goalscoring threat in open play
What is the app you are using
You make a GIANT assumption about his LB being a CB based on the Ajax 6-0 game.
For 99% of his career his left back has been a left back. At AZ he had Owen Wijndal and at Feyenoord he has had Malacia and after that Hartman. Now Hartman is injured and Geertruida has only played at LB for 2 games to be precise.
Based on your video image Liverpool need a Fabinho type CDM who can be a ball playing CB. They could go from a 4 back to 3 instantly
One thing is certain, they will have to run all 10 , 90 minutes + Feyenoord selection is very fit and scores very often in the last 10 minutes because they can keep going.
Interesting â€
The video I was waiting for, thank you Jim!
What is the app you use when discussing tactics etc?
As a Liverpool fan, Slot needs to find a way to not ship goals at shitty 2nd tier teams like West Ham, Crystal Palace and Manchester United.
Jim Iâm no QPR fan. But Iâd love to see a video on the game after you pumping Leeds!
I thought Arne Slot was popular for building through the double pivot, hence the 4-2-3-1. Crosses from advanced fullbacks, but one has to hold the width. Also, narrowing wingers in the front four. I think we need another video
He is. This video was terribly inaccurate.
Liverpool needs a great cdm and a left sided cb and probably a new right winger
Pacho of Frankfurt (CB)
Varela of Porto (CDM)
Nah, we need a decent striker who actually scores. And a new center back :
CB
Striker that can score.
- agreed on CDM we need pace in midfield. Endo gets overrun and is isolated when Macca not quick enough to get back to defense.
Iâd say Wieffer makes more sense. Looks like Pacho is already decided if I can believe the rumors.
Iâd say we donât really have to make an attacking signing unless someone else gets sold, since pretty much all 5 of our attackers have been linked with a possible move. if someone does leave we 100% need a signing. if Salah goes Iâd get Bakayoko, if anyone else leave Iâd get a top striker, a lot of people want Gyokeres but I wonder if the same will happen as Darwin who was phenomenal aswell in Portugal, the price tag will be ridiculous aswell. This might be an unpopular opinion but why not Solanke? Strong in aerial duels, great link up play, works a lot out of possession and can finish with both feet and headers. PL proven aswell. price tag will be half of what Gyokeres would cost, and for the long term weâve also got Danns who looks promising!
Other options could be Isak, Sesko, Openda, Zirkzee.
Other names like Toney, Osimhen, Boniface sound great but wonât work imo, they all got their flaws and big price tags
I don't think there's any point even thinking about this right now.
The manager will find out what he needs and Edwards will get business done.
Whether Slot works out or not, with Edwards back in you know there'll be no messing around.
Do you not back jota, injuries asideâ@@nn-yi4xn
@@Larsd69
Yeah let's avoid big price tags, it's nonsense.
What about experienced strikers 26+, would you think they d be more apt for a title race? ( On the condition that we do avoid big price tags )
_ I don't think Salah is leaving. Edwards is a numbers guy, not an under 30 or bust.
Same for vvd. On the topic what do you think of Geertruida (cb) ?
Gyokeres scored 2 goals in 1 minute yesterday for Sporting to make it 2-2 from a 2-0 deficit with Porto (away)
Geertruida on left back isnt correct my friend. Hancko plays left now Hartman injured. Geertruida plays richt or center, can even play defensive midfield. Young strong and very good player only one of the Feyenoord squad Slot should take with him.
Bijlow is the nr 1 goalie he plays a lot more football then Wellenreuther because he can and Slot wants a goalie who is greatly involved in the game.
as a feyenoord fan ill miss him but im exicted to see what he can do with Liverpool.

Quentin Timber might be a good option for Arsenal in the left sided 8. Unless they get a Partey replacement, assuming he goes in the summer, and play Rice as the 8

My only worry is that a lot of this system is too similar to what Klopp already does. I think we could do with something completely fresh and different (like what Alonso or Amorim would bring). But if Slot brings the right players in and gets the current ones playing the system well (and the forwards actually finishing) then I'm all for it.

That left-sided midfield role actually suits Gravenberch better than Szoboszlai, but good to have options
Absolutely not. This guy made his homework and trust me he has information not only based on premier league matches. This freedom is especially what Szobo needs and this is the role where he could shine. As he said: Szobo is made for that position. Like in the Hungarian national team, where he is excellent. The team needs to build around him and Macca as in Feyenoord. I like Gravenberch and followed him, but he is nowhere near the level of Szoboszlai. It would be a mistake to judge Szoboszlai based on his first year. Ppl are too harsh to him, when the whole team fall apart amd Klopp made so many mistakes which influenced his players. Not just Szobo lost his confidence and started to played poorlier after his injury. Most of the team is underperforming and ppl always forget that - after Salah - Szoboszlai made the second most key passes which would crucial in Slotâs tactic. The strikers just need o convert the oportunities, but this not so direct playstyle with more, calm passes is the perfett for Szobo
