Been trawling the net for Fiat Coupe videos the last few weeks and really can't wait to get it back. I miss it that much....

Seen one when i was 9, got the 20vt 5 speed when i turned 23, then got the rarer plus 6 speed model just recently before my 31st birthday coming up on the 22nd. Only 40 of the 20vt plus models left on on the roads, 400ish 20vts left. Less than 20 16vts left closer to 10 i believe. Not sure on the L.E but thats the worst LOOKING with the mismatched exterior and interior colours, tho it has the best factory body kit.

    FIAT had should named the car "Dino" instead of Coupe - only offering the 20VT version. Perhaps the intake manifold or something like that could have come directly from Ferrari, so that they could attach a small Ferrari emblem to the engine - "FIAT by Ferrari" like in the Lancia Thema 8.32... The car would be a desired classic now!!!

    I can of course not prove it but I said to myself that this would become a classic the first time I ever saw it, much more then the Barchetta actually, which initialy stole much of its limelight. It's about the only car I would have sold my Citroën XM for, although that was / is obviously much more practical. You don't fold a bicycle into a Fiat Coupe without even taken it's front wheel out! Furthermore XM's hardly rust. But designwise they are, in spite of their differing concepts, on a par as far as I am concerned. Nothing built later would make me me part with one of both. There is hardly any higher personal praise I can put upon it. Alas I never drove or owned a Coupé but I just refurbished my 3rd XM. :-)

    • @karlhurn
      @karlhurn  Před 3 lety

      I’d like to say it’s because the Italian stuff rusts like crazy, that’s why they’re avoided, but the Ford stuff does too. Could be the humble underpinnings of the Fiat Coupe perhaps? But they drive great and are lovely to look at.

    • @kevinjekyll1521
      @kevinjekyll1521 Před 3 lety +1

      @@karlhurn Yes the underpinnings weren't the best, but a lot of cars at that time shared it, the Coupe's shape helped a little. I find the 20vt's can overwhelm the grip at a start off, but when you are "going" you can settle into an understanding of the balance. I have driven Escorts and Cortina's, I must say they feel good, not quite that I'm going to die if I don't pay attention feel. I have other cars as well as these, but I enjoy driving these, the sound is one of these best things, that 5 cylinder and turbo... 220hp, anyone remember what else was around at the time that was up against these?
