All of these early 1960s you will applause at the beginning and the end. Because the audience was strictly told not to cheer, scream, etc. while that while the performer was singing.

Ann Wilson is the lead singer who sang that and she was 62 at the time WITH the flu. With her sister Nancy they started out in the seventies as a Led Zeppelin cover band. Robert Plant gave them permission to always cover their songs if they wanted to. He never gave his permission to any other band.

A glitzy and impressionable copy of a masterwork, performed with genuine affection and dedication by extremely talented performers. It must though be seen for something other than Stairway to Heaven, having much panache, bells, whistles and clearly rehearsal to the point of perfection. But it could never eclipse the genius, creativity, energy and chemistry of Page, Plant, Bonham and Jones.

I'm in the U.S.-- my first concert was The Beatles, in Memphis. I was 9, and it was the concert that made them decide that would be their last tour ever when someone dropped a cherry bomb from the balcony which bounced off Ringo's drums and exploded behind John, Paul, and George. Amazingly they finished the song but all 3 looked around, thinking one of them had been shot. When asked some years later if he'd ever consider going back to Memphis, Tennessee for any reason John said, "Oh, hell no!" Anyway, you got me hooked right away with your Beatles journey!

I agree, and I don't mean that as a slight to Ann Wilson. She's the best female rock vocalist in history and quite frankly is a much better vocalist than Robert Plant. But the original is recognized as the best rock song of all time for a reason. This might technically be as good as the original, it might even have better vocals, but it's not the original classic. No one complains when every orchestra in he world does a cover of any of the great composers from 100's of years ago? Rock n Roll was built on the backs of old blues players. They copied and covered riffs invented by others. Yes, they expanded on the sound and created their own, but the ground work was there. Heart has earned the right to cover Stairway so just enjoy it. I was just turning 21 when the original came out and it was so mind bending and beautiful🎶✌️. Such an iconic classic so beautifully composed and written. Trailblazers for sure. This performance is so special as Robert and Jimmy were being honored, Jason Bonham, the son of their original drummer playing the drums masterfully wearing his Dad's Bowler Hat that he always wore. And at the end the choir all put on those Bowler Hats it was so special. The added horns, choir, etc were so beautiful and is indicative of the original masterpiece that it can be embellished and added to to create such perfection. To see Robert and Jimmy view this was so emotional. They loved it. Robert actually told Ann Wilson after the performance that he usually doesn't like it when people cover Stairway, but tonight he liked it! Ann, of course, was honored and thrilled.

This is the short, edited for TV version. It's a shame you didn't find the full song (CBS cut about 3 minutes or so out of it for the TV broadcast -- if you noticed verses missing that's why). You should seek out the full version. It's better IMO.

Ann Wilson was 62 when she sang this. Amazing.
I normally prefer studio versions to live versions, and originals to covers. This is the exception to both.
A small percentage of songs are better when watching the video.
    - Zombie (Cranberries)
    - The Pretender (Foo Fighters)
    - Comfortably Numb (Pulse Concert)
    - Others?
The reactions by Led Zeppelin and passionate percussion by Bonham make this a must-watch.
If you look carefully, you can see David Letterman, sans beard, to Page's left

Hello Harri, I had stopped in to mention the fact that Jason Bonham was on drums, but I see that's already been done. So I say hi, and hit the thumbs up, and wish you well. IT just dawned on me, if you go to the Gov't Mule band channel you can see a segment of a live concert performed 2 days ago with Gov't Mule With the great guitar legend Warren Haynes, and Ann Wilson, joining them on stage as she has many times over the years, and they are covering Led Zeppelin, and Ann still has it in 2021.

Robert Plant has a real problem with anyone trying to cover this song, but went backstage to compliment them on this performance.

Harri, you reacted to the edited version of this performance. A full verse and half of the guitar solo was edited for TV. Watch the full version. Ann Wilson was 63. Keep up the good work.

There are better videos out there, I believe this had some part cut out...check out the one that says full version...it really gets more focus too. You can see Robert Plant almost crying and Jimmy Page was counting as the solo was going on....don't forget John Paul Jones, huge part of the band.

I loved this tribute but in comparison it was a few guys on stage blowing your mind to a stage filled with so many musicians it was almost a different song.
