    This song always brings me right back to listening to this in 1983 when I was 15 in Boston. Tripping on purple microdot mescaline with about 50 friends on the railroad tracks. We had a big boom box tons of beer and the leaves were falling because it was fall. Great song!

      @chuckleezodiac24 Před měsícem +2

      i wanna party with you, dude.

    • @jackgilchrist
      @jackgilchrist Před měsícem +2

      Just FYI, purple microdots are acid, not mescaline. A dose of mescaline is around 200 to 500 milligrams, and you couldn't come anywhere close to fitting that into a microdot. You could maybe fit about 5 milligrams into a microdot, and then you'd have to take 40 or more to get high. But LSD, which averages about 100 _micrograms_ (not milligrams) per dose, can easily fit in a microdot.
      I'd be real careful about taking LSD these days though, as a lot of it is some form of 25-NB, which unlike LSD is very toxic and potentially fatal. You pretty much have to really _really_ trust your source, or do an Ehrlich test to make sure. You just can't trust drugs anymore. I'm glad I quit drugs a long time ago, well before all this fake shit atarted ahowing up.
      In any case, we sure had some fun back then, huh? Well, good times, bad times...

    The honors ceremony for LZ at the Kennedy Center in 2012 was a well deserved recognition for what this band has given to the world. The pinnacle was Heart performing Stairway To Heaven. I have never seen a more moving cover than what was put together for this cover. The array of singers and musicians was almost beyond belief, a choir wearing Bowler Hats (John Bonham used to wear a Bowler Hat often), to what appeared to be a full orchestra were coreograhed in an epic manner. The icing on the cake came as a surprise to LZ, John Bonham's son Jason was playing drums (Jason had told LZ he had a previous committment and could not make it). Check out "Battle Of Evermore" off Zep 4. It goes deep in Tolkien references.

  • @SonicProfessor_a.k.a._T._Andra

    It's a well-known fact that: Robert Plant was/is a declared J.R.R. Tolkien fan.
    [He had a dog named: Aragorn, in the '70s & '80s].
    "Ramble On" is the most 'apparent' lyrical reference, but (pretty obvious, i.m.o.), the glorious duet with: Sandy Denny
    (vocalist with Fairport Convention and personal friend of the band): "The Battle Of Evermore"
    also has direct Tolkien connections.
    [Sandy Denny is, also, the only non-Zeppelinite (non-"official band member") to have an official Led Zeppelin sigil
    [i.e., the legendary "geometric shapes" and, so-called, "ZoSo" figure, designed/taken by Jim Page and Robert Plant's feather symbol.] made/designed for her (actually, chosen BY her!). The three equilateral triangles are Sandy's sigil and appear on the Untitled 4th Zeppelin album (it also, seemingly, mimics "an asterisk" on the album).]

    Being English, they were inspired by northern European mythology and literature as well as the blues, more than other British bands that focused on rock, jazz or blues.

    I love that effect sitting way back in the mix. It sounds like he’s kind of high-pitched whispering. Yes, that’s it. That’s all I have to add. Lol.

      It's pretty much a song that we imagine is being sung by Bilbo Baggins, the main character from The Hobbit.

    To "ramble" can also mean to go for a walk, wander off for a hike, not just to talk incoherently. It could be a bit of both where he's muttering to himself aimlessly while going for a walk. 😊

    this song was kind of our anthem for 9th grade which was the year I really started partying more lol. right around 1981. I also remember going to see the zeppelin movie "song remains the same" at the spartan triplex theater in east Lansing MI somewhere around the that time. It was like the midnight movies along with rocky horror picture show. It was there for months or even years. who can remember.

    Yes, that bass is doing a lot of the work. But I also feel this is one of Plant's most honest recordings. It's something I think he would still defer to today. Although I don't know how much he rates the Lord of the Rings references.

    I always thought, at least in that line the "girl" is the all-consuming one ring...& if u listen to the whole song that way, that line makes more sense.
