This is exactly my take on it. Its how I've felt about most Keys work after the success of Brothers and El Camino.
Yeah it really does sound like an ad you try & skip on CZcams.
Also you can replace that song with Happy by Pharrell or Can't Stop the Feeling by Timberlake that's how generic the music video is.

Considering how difficult it is to make money in the music industry these days, I don't begrudge them that at all.
Magic potion is such a brilliant record. The opening track “Just got to be” is my absolute favourite Black keys song.
Guitar tone on the record is so satisfying and in the room. Love it

You can really hear Beck's influence in this song. It's got an E-Pro, Where It's At, Sex Laws, Think I'm In Love kind of vibe to it

I think music is changing and that it's not a bad move. I'm in a way glad that they are putting actual rock out there in this new consumerist space.

I couldn’t agree more… I love the black keys and have been listening to them for 15 years. I definitely love the old stuff better… “thick freakness” was awesome and “Rubber Factory” is my favorite album
Couldn't possibly agree with this comment more. I much prefer the raw sound they had back then. I play a lot of keys music, up to the magic potion album. I played in a 2 piece band for a while we covered a lot of thier stuff.
This is why i won't see them live. They never play the old stuff
I will say I saw the Black Keys at “Bourbon and Beyond” and they played music from “let’s rock” through “the big come up” seriously at least 2 or 3 songs off every LP definitely worth seeing and I can’t wait to see them again. I suggest seeing them at a festival… I feel you are more limely to see all their catalog
Funny because i love the new albums aswell as Brothers and Delta Kream. Though i dont really care for Thickfreadkness. Black keys has something for everyone

I worked it out on my guitar ...now I can play it .. I see what you do from single notes and the chords how they resolve at the end , You make great choices with this progression.. For me, this is old school Motown. Seeing how they're from Akron they probably come by it naturally, they've always had that late '60s early '70s vibe.

attended their September 2023 concert in TOronto with a big band and a couple of their guitar heroes on board - BLEW MY MIND ! and i have enjoyed many shows.
Love them and their Instagram ads for this album are the best!

That feud is the only thing I’ve heard from either band (and this underwhelming clip of a `meh’ sounding song).
I share Jack White’s opinion that they never had it. Are the Black Keys talented and capable musicians/songwriters? Sure. Absolutely. But their output has always been TV commercial music to my ears.

I was a huge fan. Loved their music from early 2000s to early 2010s. The sound changed and evolved after that. I still like their music but not as much as in those days. Guess I changed too in that time ;)

I heard one of The Black Keys do a version of Prince' Take Me With You. It was awesome.
It doesn't seem like Magic Potion gets much appreciation, but I agree, I love it
for the few bits I managed to get (i know you have to break the songs up a ton to avoid the lawyers) that groove is wicked. It's one of those things where you almost don't care about the rest of that song because that groove underneath is utterly addictive.
I'm sure that start is in some ad! Can't think of what. This song is all over my radio station in Vancouver.
Their first albums were amazing. Thickfreakness has to be my favourite but Brothers is also an absolute classic

I agree that the magic of the black keys is at its finest when it is Dan & Pat. I do like their more filled out stuff. It just doesn’t get any better than them playing Thickfreakness for me.

The majority of most memorable songs and very old songs that are still played have crisp instruments playing. How many rock songs from 2000s with thick wall of sound are memorable in pop culture?
Oasis got less and less popular the more they overproduced records. Ed Sheerans last album has horrible sales, happens to be his most overproduced and drowned. Adele had sharpest sounding record of decade and was one of the highest selling albums. Ed Sheeran tried to copy The Weekend so why it isnt selling? Songs are as good, but if you listen to Weekend record, it is crisp.
Tell me what you want but the absolute vast majority seems to be clear sounding.

Even if Justin Hawkins' pipes get a bit worse for wear The Darkness show can go on. One option would be to unleash operation understudy. There are killer Queen and The Darkness tribute bands where an understudy could be rapidly recruited and crash-coursed in The Darkness way. Another would be to develop an instrumental all-stars setlist complete with a singalong symphony to "I Believe in a Thing Called Love". Even without the main vocalist The Darkness could still rock a stadium harder than a badger on a sugar rush.
Not the best black keys song but these guys can put there hand to anything!

Magic Potion is the Black Keys at their finest. That album is an epic sonic journey. Beautiful People (Stay High) is not what I expected, but I'm here for it.
The Black Keys & Beck sound great together. The song reminds me of a few tracks off Beck's album Guero. Can't forget Dan the Automator. Give Handsome

I see the Black Keys as a 21st century T-REX. Short, groovy songs with a good hook that make us feel good for 3 minutes. Nothing fancy, nothing challenging, just catchy and fun. Love them!
I agree I don’t like the Black Keys with a backing band era. They were in their prime when they did the live at the crystal ballroom live video recording. Dan’s semi hollow body guitar with P-90’s was so hot it would damn near feedback between every note. Good stuff.

The Beck influence on this makes feel pretty much just a Beck song - and that's not a bad thing. I'll be looking forward to hearing the whole album and seeing how that pans out. You're right in saying that the Black Keys are at their best when it is just the two of them and all of the embellishments are stripped back.
Well i can say as a Keys fan i am Iiking this song quite a lot. I am also old enough to see this music being used in a gap commercial in the 90s. As a side note they created a promotional short with them talking to young ladies at a bowling alley and it’s funny as sh*t…

Dan Auerbach's voice is very nice. When they released "El Camino" I first listened to them before seeing their faces and I got surprised because I expected another face according to his voice (don't know what face, but another face😅, not saying anything bad about it). I felt the same with other artists (Rick Astley, Jimmy Somerville, Black, Adele, Amy Winehouse, Holly Johnson...) I don't know if it's only a thing that I perceive or it happens to more people

I think sometimes we forget that the black keys are the sound of ad music like they don’t make music that sounds like ads ads use their music so now that’s the sound of music in ads they’ve even had to sue Pizza Hut for basically stealing one of there songs
I’ve never given this band a deep dig, because I’ve never heard anything of theirs that has `grabbed’ me, or made me want to listen to more. This is another example of that “meh” feeling I’ve gotten when I’ve heard other songs from them.

Their recent run of albums have been quite polished and poppy. Their first few albums (The Big Come Up, Rubber Factory, Magic Potion) are just two guys in a room bashing out garage/blues tunes. Completely different sound. Well worth a listen. Attack & Release and Brothers were the transition period and are a great mix of the two styles, but many people prefer the rawer stuff.
