  • Hey pilots! Here is a quick demonstration of the new campaign that is coming out this late December or early January of 2022. In this mission the instructor, "Biff," goes over all the different pipper modes of the gun, as well as different tactics in employing the mighty brrrtttttt.
    I can honestly say that I learned quite a bit from this training campaign mission and I'll be looking forward to the other training missions in the future when it releases. I did leave out a lot of chatter and training from Biff due to time constraints and not wanting the video to be over an hour long, but I did get some great Brrttt runs using all the different CCIP pipper modes. Hope you all enjoy and make sure you head on over to the website for more information.

      Out of curiosity, is there a reason why the aircraft in this mission seems to be carrying all sorts of captive/training weapons even though the mission is only about the gun?

      I agree. I got the advanced and the basic fight qualification sets for the A-10 and was kinda put out that they weren't training missions but, test missions. Missions you fly AFTER you have trained. LOL

    Love it. Must admit I’m always intimidated with proper campaigns like these, hell I even got confused and felt out of my depth with the qualification campaigns a few years ago.
    I mean I can start her up, take off / land, sometimes manage a refuel. But actually using her efficiently in combat, let alone program in map references and find targets are still out of reach I think for me.
    I would love to do this, but I just don’t know if it’s outside of my skill level. ( I.e. none )

    I'm really enjoying this campaign a LOT! One issue I'm having is, sometimes I can't get any ATC audio until further into the flight. I think it's the 2nd or 3rd flight. The departure flight from Tonapah (after the divert landing). No ATIS, ground, tower or departure comms. Later during the flight, everything works great. Strange

    • @TrickerDCS
      @TrickerDCS  Před rokem

      Interesting, do you have realistic comms checked in the special options? Also make sure you're on the right frequency according to the kneeboard.

      @@TrickerDCS yes sir! I only fly with realistic comms. I like tuning the radios as I do IRL. Also checked the kneeboard. Tried manually entering after getting nothing from the presets. I'll double check my settings and try that mission again this afternoon.

    • @redtailpilot

      Ahh user error! Tonopah frequencies are at the bottom of the kneeboard! Those presets are still set to Nellis. Silly user error. How did I miss that 😳

    So far I LOVE this... it's forcing me to learn more about the A-10 than just flying around and blowing shit up.
    I do have a question.... is it supposed to work with Vaicom/Voice attack? When I choose NTTC and open Kneeboard/ATC, it displays Krymsk... and the TX buttons are disabled except for TX 5 Interphone.

    (Revised for the more delicate snowflakes in the crowd)
    Amazing video quality, my man. Looking forward to soaking up these missions and putting the Hawg to proper use!
    A note on the GAU-8: In the video, the pilot employed a 4 second burst. That's cool out on the range but, in practice, it's better to go with a 2 second burst. Here is some info from various sources about why that is.
    1st detent (engage GPAC to steady aircraft), one thousand one.
    2nd detent (fire), one thousand one..one thousand two..release and break off or, fire another two second burst.
    The advertised fire rate of the GAU-8 is 3,900 rounds per minute. If you use pure math, that works out to 65 rounds per second. However, the 3,900 rpm is a close approximation, not an exact number. The actual fire rate is a little higher than that. However, there is also some spin-up time in the first half-second where the fire rate is notably lower. So, we would average that all out and use about 66 rounds per second as our rule of thumb. (You could easily round up and call it 67, but what’s one round of 30mm between friends?) In practice, most shots are on the order of about one to two seconds. Maybe half a second if you only want to give a little love tap, or if you’re nursing your 100 rounds of training ammo to get as many hot passes on the range as possible. So, with 1,150 rounds in the can, and a fire rate of 66 rounds per second, you’re looking at 17.42 seconds and change. (If you use 67 rounds per second, you’re at 17.16 seconds instead. Not that the target will notice the difference.)
    Another thing to take note of is the accuracy of the gun. At 1200 meters, 80% of the bullets fired will land within 12 meters of the aimed spot. DCS recently updated the accuracy of the GAU-8 to better simulate this in game. However, firing the GAU-8 will cause the nose of the plane to pitch up even with the GPAC enabled. So, you're throwing off your shots by shooting longer thereby wasting a fair amount of ammo. Being accurate is good. Being precise is even gooder.
    Hope this helps you put more rounds on target and introduce more of those wankers to their makers.

      Hey man, you seem a little lost. Just so you know this is a video game and you do fun things in them. Maybe you missed the memo.

    • @Thumper770
      @Thumper770 Před 2 lety

      @@brendenmock4493 I get that. No harm in giving tips that makes one more efficient. If I came off sounding like a dick, I apologize. That wasn't my intent and it's just how I come across. Some people don't realize that you only need half as much ammo to destroy a target than they're hitting them with and by cutting your shots in half, you can kill twice as many targets in a mission. What's wrong with knowing that?!

    • @Thumper770
      @Thumper770 Před 2 lety

      @@brendenmock4493 Point 2: This is NOT a mere video game. This is a real life simulation. This is a hobby. War Thunder is a video game. If all you wanna do is "have fun", go play that. Most folks who play DCS actually want to learn something in addition to having fun. In fact, learning new things about your favorite aircraft and sharing them is part of the fun.

    • @Thumper770
      @Thumper770 Před 2 lety

      @@hammerofdavey why? If you want it o be just a game, that's cool. It's more than that to some others. You can play your way andhave fun. Think you could let the rest of us have fun in our own way, as well? There's plenty of fun to be had by all. Besides, if finding out that you could kill twice as many bad guys as before by learning something new, wouldn't you WANT to learn something new? I mean, killing the bad guys is the fun part, right? I don't see your problem with this unless throwing shade on me just makes you feel better.

    • @Jabbers
      @Jabbers Před 2 lety

      @@Thumper770 to your point we all have fun in our own ways, so stop trying to press the point that it's a Sim and not a game, we can play it as both and enjoy it as both. Coming on YT and commenting about how someone didn't follow SOP in a video game is some incredible backseat ackualllllyyy nerdism. Who cares... Well obviously you, but not the majority of those that play dcs imo
