  • Albert Park has been the home of the Australian Grand Prix since 1996. In this video I take show you the best locations to view F1 cars on track with only a general admission ticket. No grand stand ticket needed. You can buy the cheapest ticket and see the cars in action from 10 locations.
    I have been to a fair number of Grand Prix at Melbourne over the years, and in that time I have found what I believe to be the best viewing locations to catch all the racing action.
    I show you what you would see if you took a cheap camera to take some home videos at the circuit.
    Did I miss your favourite viewing location? Let me know in the comments and I will include it in an update!

      @@OkiDingo I recommend any of the games down towards Fitzroy street (near the final few corners). Most of the big crowds enter via the main gates behind the start finish straight on Canterbury Rd or around the gates near turn 9/10/11 along Lakeside Drive.
      However, for the Thursday walk, your best bet is to enter to the game at middle park (I forget the gate number). You walk under Middle Park Light Rail station and then follow your nose. There will be big crowds for this so get there early if you can. Also have your bags ready to be searched. It will be a great experience once you are in the track limits and they will guide you to the location of the pitlane walk (over the start / finish pedestrian bridge). Be sure to go up on the pit building roof (On Thursday) when a support race or any on track action is happening as it's a great view!

Which do you think might be best and would they all have viewable screens? Any tips on best grandstands would be ace.

    • @rodrrico
      @rodrrico  Před 2 lety +1

      I think it's great that the track is getting a facelift. Hopefully it improves the on track action, but a little part of me is disappointed for the general admission fans as they have lost some great viewing angles. As far as the new Grandstands go, I think Summerland (Turn 5), Clark (turn 8/9) and Waite (Turn 10) could all potentially be great viewing locations. Hopefully they all have giant TV screens. Clarke should have a giant screen as that section always had one before the track change, and I still see room for the screen there.
      Other grandstands I have liked (in the past) are: Brabham, Fangio and Senna / Prost (formerly Webber).
      I hope that helps a little bit with your decision. Either way, Melbourne always does a great job of hosting the F1 and hopefully the new layout is great for racing and fans alike. We'll know soon enough!

    My daughter and I have parks pass for Saturday 2022. We are first timers and have NO idea how to plan our one day there. Saturday has practice 1-2pm and Qual 4-5pm so not sure what time best to arrive, what to do before/after watching practice, the Albert Park area looks so huge how do we get from one part to another without walking 100km? Do you pick a track side spot early and just sit there all day? Is there a better gate to enter thru? Thanks for any first timer advice. 😊

    • @rodrrico
      @rodrrico  Před 2 lety

      Congratulation on getting tickets to attend the race this year. So there's a lot to unpack in your question.
      I like to get in early and watch the vintage race cars and support events. So I usually head in when the gates open for the day.
      Some of the quieter gates are along the road called "Princess Hwy" though there are more grandstands along that side of the track this year so it might be busier than in years gone by.
      I recommend walking around the track during practice so you can find the best angles and positions to see. Then go to your favourite spot for qualifying. You will want to get in position 20mins before qualifying as it will be packed this year with a sellout crowd. Fortunately, Australian F1 fans are pretty reasonable and hopefully won't block your viewing for your daughter.
      I hope that helps out a bit and you and your daughter have a great exoerience! Thanks for watching and for your comments.

    I somehow think the rank you made was based on the experience of watching the cars and not much about the action in the race(?).
    And one more info, all of these locations offer good view for a big screen to watch all the race?

    • @rodrrico
      @rodrrico  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Simen, until the recent changes it had been quite easy to walk around the track. There are a number of overpass pedestrian bridges around the track. Also there is usually a pontoon inflatable bridge that crosses over Albert Park late between the pit area and the back of the circuit.
      Of course the track has had significant changes over the last year so some viewing areas will be different from now on, though the locations to cross the track should still be there this year.

Yes there is fence everywhere - that's motor racing and has been that way for as long as I can remember (been watching races live since 1998). Most cameras can shoot through the fencing and to be honest, you don't notice the fencing after a while. Perhaps you are familiar with the camera crews who do shoot through small openings in the catch fencing. • @rodrrico
      @rodrrico  Před rokem +1

      Hi Jack, Albert Park can be quite tricky to find decent shade. I would suggest along the straight between turns 2 - 3 there are some trees along both sides of the track. The next best place would be either the inside or outside between turns 5 and 6, but closer to turn 6.
      There is some shade on the outside of turn 7, though that might have a new grandstand there for this years race.
      Other than the actual race and Qualifying, people generally walk around quite a bit so you should hopefully be able to find some shade close to the track fences.
      I highly recommend a big hat, sunscreen and sunglasses if the weather is warm as it's easy to cook in the sun. Melbourne is notorious for having four seasons in a day, so pack a little bag with some suitable clothing. Fortunately there are several fan friendly zones that should have some sun shades and possibly jumbo TV screen to watch some of the action away from the edge of the circuit.
      I hope that helps a little. I really need to update this video with the changes from the last couple of years.

    What are the best tickets? I’m trying to book some tickets for my husband’s 30th 😩

    • @rodrrico
      @rodrrico  Před 2 lety +1

      Depending on what you're husband would rather see, I find 'Fangio' grandstand opposite the pits are the best as you can see the pits, podium and the sceptical of the cars lining up on the grid. Other than that, a good general admission ticket will allow you to walk around most of the track, just not where the grandstands are located.
      For 2022 there have been a few significant track layout changes which has changed Turns 5,6,7 and 9,10 the most. I am not sure what the general viewing will be like around those changed corners.
      You can order tickets on grandprix.com.au You're husband will love with no matter what tickets you get. I do recommend getting the 4 day weekend package to really soak up the experience.

      @@rodrrico thank you so much for replying. I really appreciate it. I had been struggling to figure this out because I know the tickets go on sale soon and I want him to have the most amazing 30th because he never misses a race.
      Do you reckon it’s worth it to pay extra for all the other things like the hospitality part and is there any way we can meet the drivers?
      What is the ticket price ranges if you can help me please

    Is there a good GA spot that also has visibility of any screens?

      Best spot is the inside of turn 2/3 or along the sweeping straight of turn 9/10. Both have jumbo screens on the opposite side of the track.

      @@bijayjungkarki7369 The rooftop bar can have great viewing but also and be packed with people. If you're more into the social aspect of the race weekend, then it's a good option. I think it's a bit expensive for the 3 day pass, but it's great if you want to impress a client / guest.

      Yes, heaps of people take their own chairs. You can't take a portable pergola or big sunshade though, but camping chairs are allowed.
