My helpful hints are thus. Firstly, label everything. You can get nice little metal holders from Amazon some with little pulls on them and if you turn the Ikea drawers around they look very nice. Use hang tags or tape, but labeling is the key to know what is what. Next, round containers waste too much space so use oblongs that fill the space back to front and then can pullout easily. You could contain all your fabric ruffles in the Ikea thing you already have the one with dividers. Get rid of their former containers. Put the books all together high or low because you only need them now and then and they are easy to spot. Next, wrap all lace and trim around identical size cardboard pieces so they can be organised and dust free. Lastly (I could go on all day) get a rolling chair.
I have found junk journals to be the messiest of craft supplies but as a life long seamstress and sewing teacher as well as paper crafter (I am now 74), I am also an expert organiser:)

What a great space Tina. My suggestions are:-
    Label everything
Get a swivel office type chair or stool, it’ll be easier to move in your small space
Pu your books all in one place, by category
Make up some packs for Etsy of finished ephemera
Make up some packs for Etsy of unfinished ephemera
Make up some pack of paper scraps, book pages, music paper, deli paper etc for Etsy for new starters who don’t have a stash
Do a series of ‘Shop your craft room’
Do a series of ‘Smash your trash’
Try not to hoard all those beautiful items, use them up, again another possibility for a series, I can’t think of a name for it though!
Have another clear out, like your tidy Friday but try to get rid of anything you know you won’t use, again, sell on Etsy or donate to the school
Make up some random Junk Journal packs for people who don’t have a stash of their own ie paper, ephemera, lace, a sheet or two of some of your digitals.
Challenge yourself to use some of the older items you have come across during the move, I’m sure we would all like to see that so we could all do the same.
Love your videos and look forward to them everyday, keep up with the marvellous creations that you come up with. Xxx

I feel so much better after watching this, I’m not alone. Hahaha😊 Two things that helped me, one was clear containers and totes Two, a clear shoe organizer hung on the front and inside of the doors for all my glues, staples, sponges, paper clips that type of stuff because I would forget about my inventory and buy more. If you can’t see it you forget about it.

I think you and I have a couple of the same "problems" 😊 I dearly love old books and pretty containers! ...so my room was getting out of hand! I decided to make myself a "library" and created categories... now I can find books of flowers, music, languages, etc, much easier because they are together with their own kind. So nice! I also used that idea for "bits and bobs"... all my fabric ruffles are in one tray, buttons are sorted into identical jars on a window ledge, all my envelopes are in one bin.... you get the idea. By limiting the number of containers, my room doesn't overwhelm me as quickly. I know you will find good solutions as you sort and refine your beautiful new space 💕

I think you would make better use of your shelf spaces if you put all those unused books on the very top shelves...and bring stuff down to where you can reach it easier...love what you have done with your space tho...keep up the great work...think it's about time for s few tidy Friday's...lol

Sooooo.....all books together on higher shelves in back....obviously the higher the better...n your pretty journals in front n spaced. A couple of high shelves wud be great..."Home" used too on high shelf. Graduate your sizes..high to low. All laces together...e.g. "bolts or larger spools" in back n then some pretty spools in front....how about the grey IKEA boxes stacked and in a furthest corner along with the other grey drawers....Those General Store crates r cute....they cud decorate as well as utilize with neatly organized similar items...e.g. your pretty ephemera n clusters. Naturally as u stand in the doorway your eyes will be drawn to your pretty storage items...bottom can have paper n envelopes...these can be stacked n you can really utilize the shelves..your natural wood shelves could be painted for a fresh look....perhaps white..incorporated w your white shelving n both units together. Then removable labels for future content changes. All bottles together,...medias, glues, paints etc...but hidden ..the cart w your daily supplies..next to your working area...left....ink in clear storage....lower location.. if u can't part w those glass jars...higher.... arranged by size..e.g. high to low or high in middle..graduating in size left n right. It would be lovely to have pretty items displayed with like kind together. Do enjoy your new workspace..I can tell you're excited! It's very satisfying work n will help w your beautiful creations! Hope we will see your end results!.🤗

I store my stencils in a rectangular type bin or box. I keep it in one of those rolling carts. I keep them separated by size, with either cardstock or some cereal box packaging in between, with a label on them. I can thumb thru them and find one I want easily. I had them on a ring hanging up, those were the tag ones from Tim Holtz. But I have since accumulated 6x6 and other sizes and I wanted them all together. I also have some vinyl sticky back ones that I keep with the packaging. Now I have some larger 12x12 stencils, that do not fit in my bin. I keep them in a 12x12 scrapbook paper clear box. Not that ideal, but it keeps them from bending. I also like big open rope baskets for storing on top of my shelf. I keep my ribbon and yarn in clear bags, by season in one basket. I can pull it down easily, look at the bags and find what I want. I also keep interesting junk mail and scraps in another basket. It’s sometimes hard to find your own “ style” of organizing and everyone is different. Your videos have been great, I got some ideas for some of my smaller items. Thanks for sharing!

Best advice I can give is to live/work in the space for a while. Once you know where you can easily reach from your desk, put what you reach for the most in those places. After you have the area close to your desk working out, then move on to other parts of the room. Next bit of advice is to label absolutely everything. And if you’re bifocal dependent (like me!)- use nice, big labels.

Wow! Mammoth job, well done you! You’ll refine the where’s & whys as you get the feel of your new space. My bloke put a strip of timber along the back edge of my work bench ( old door on trestles , that he made for me) it stops things from falling off that back edge - fabulous!
I have to say thank you Tina cause this arvo I went through all my markmaking papers, I was brutal, some were truly awful, lol, they’re gone ! A kitchen tidy full !& I’m left with a zip lock bag full of useable ones.
I agree with Patricia, re a wheely chair, you can just spin around on it! I’ve got one & what a difference!
Anyway, lots of fun looking at all your goodies! & your new room is a cracker! Cheers, Gay

    @Primrose_CraftedLife Před 2 lety

How about organizing things types, like an area for papers and below that could be envelopes and mail packs then books above.
You could have another area for WIP projects and items of ephemera.
And then another area for all kinds of fabrics, etc.
I would just have a small area near you desk for the daily use items. And use clear containers as much as possible, I horde old jam jars 🫙 for buttons , pins, ribbons and little items. I think the book case behind you should have everything that you use daily on, maybe even make up some little stashes of the bigger things like your silks , laces etc, to store at easy reach. We are in the process of redirecting our craft/study room , i had 1 cupboard area before and a draw unit in another room, but now I have to figure out , where and how I want things in the new small space, and seeing what you have to work with has really inspired me. Small spaces can work.
I was wondering why you moved rooms though, wasn’t the loft /attic area bigger?

Hiyou could put all your books in the same unit in the corner and the stuff you want to hoard in the bottom cupboard that you don’t need to go in that often. A length of narrow dowel or strong braid rope could be hung across some where to load your spools and ribbons on to.

Love the room. All that hard work was worth it, even at this stage. My room is smaller than yours and I have as much ‘stuff’ so image the higgledy piggledy mess I’m enjoying. The only tip to share that I’ve learned through bitter experience is to watch what you put in your window area. The slightest sunlight easily fades paper and fabric so track the sun and look for hot spots. Good luck with any refinements you do x

LOVE the wooden spools! You can use a metal hanger, make “holders” that you can hang them off sideways off a hook and do a long stretch of them on a wall or cabinet side. Would be easy access - but free up the shelf space!

  • @carolbisson5242
    @carolbisson5242 Před 2 lety

My little word of advice is to store like things together, use clear plastic containers and bins with some pretty labels, use a box with hanging file folders to sort your paper and keep it all together (I sort mine by designer or type of paper), Things you have in excess of can be kept elsewhere and this will just help to declutter (ex: the large rolls of paper). If I didn't live so far away I would come and help you out. Best wishes.

    Hi Tina:
You are definitely on your way to a fabulous craft room makeover. We paper crafters amass soooo much stuff! I’m always reorganizing and labeling things, and I still don’t know where some things are. Keep going and don’t look back. Use things you’re hoarding. You cannot enjoy it if it’s buried in a drawer. That’s my only advice. BTW, my sister makes those drawer organizers like your parents gave you, and they hold so much stuff. Good luck with the finale. 💜😎🇺🇸

@@shabbydabbydoodah Tina, one more thing. We have a neighborhood app where people can post happenings and sell things. Last month a woman posted vintage piano sheets with covers from her grandmother, that she’s been hoarding in a closet. Most are from 1929. They were free, so I jumped on it. She was so happy to give them to me. I told her I would use them in junk journals, so they would have to be cut up. “No problem, at least they would be seen.”

Have you thought of getting a few more of the small shelves with the lips on them (the ones holding your heat tool)? I was thinking if you turned them around so the back of the shelf was facing the edge of of your desk, it would some things rolling off the back. It would also give some shelves to put things. Also, I have some of the Ikea desk drawers under my desk on my right side. I think you might be able to fit more in them, like your distress inks, all your tools, glues, etc that you need to find quickly. It’s amazing how much they hold and, Ikea has some plastic inserts for them that keep things fro rolling around. It might hold more than the book case. I’m loving you craft room. You might end up eventually getting more things on the slelves behind you if you used deeper plastic drawers that utilize the depth of the shelves. Hugs, treen 💕💕💕

Thank you so much Treen, fantastic suggestions, especially about utilising the full depth of my bookshelves behind me. I do love lots of the Ikea drawers, they have one in particular called Alex which looks fab, but tbh, since trying out my desk for a couple of weeks now, I am not so sure, as I am sat pretty high on my stool, and they would be too low I think. That said, I am sure that the room will evolve and change over time x

Thanks for the look around of your new crafty space. My space is beyond help.I have several types of crafts and love to COLLECT! your desk area with a storage on the back----if you use corner brackets to attach your extra peg board to the back. It would stop things from slipping off the back of your desk and give you the hook storage that you like. This would keep many things at hands reach. It could also be handy to clip inspiration ideas to. You"re doing great never doubt yourself. You mentioned renting your place for an event. Sounds scary? Maybe I misunderstood.
    Keep crafting. Angela in USA

Thank you so much Angela, I really appreciate your great suggestion. Yes, it’s so hard to keep everything organised isn’t it? We just need so much stuff! Lol. Yes, we are hoping to rent our house out for an upcoming event, fingers crossed really it will go well 🤞 x

Loving all of this. As another great organizer, I use an overcthe door shoe rack. Mine has clear plastic pockets which is awesome because you can see what's in them at a glance. Also, they are very inexpensive.

They are truly amazing, I am sorry I forgot to tell you about it before. Mine even has 2 larger pockets on the bottom so I can fit more in it.

I use these for everything too! I have two that I put my skeins of yarn..colorful and I can see what I have. Another one that I attached to the side of one of my Rollie carts has punches in it. Another small one I have on my sewing machine Rollie cart. It holds small stuff for sewing, thread, scissors, seam rippers, etc. most of my paper stuff for journaling are in plastic baskets (small and large) and in wooden boxes that I put those old Tymy drawer pulls that you can put a label in. I use wire shelf organizers to make as much vertical space as possible

Wow! It looks like you could make junk journals for a whole year without having to buy anything! I like your arrangement in the room and the island really does give you so much more room. At least I know I'm not alone with hoarding certain things. I'm also in process of organizing spaces in my house. Kind of a mid-life thing, it seems to be with other crafters, as well. Love it! Can't wait to see your next few projects!

Love the room, I agree likes with likes. The books I’d put on that bottom shelf or in a cupboard where you can find them, but not taking valuable space. I tidy up after each project so not to have a mess all the time. Watch Gail Agostonelli and see how she keeps an organized space. Ceri the Crafter also. But everyone creates their own way and don’t apologize for being who you are.

It’s really coming along nicely! You’ve done so much work to get it to this point! You can fine tune it as you work with things! I love the narrow shelves, mostly because they have the little lip on the front! Those will save you many disasters, I wish mine had that feature! It seems like lace, sari silk, ribbons, tassels might fit nicely behind your chair, because you could reach into tubs to get them, unlike having to pull out papers & books? I think you’re the winner of the contest for who has the most made-up ready to go ephemera!!! Those maybe could be put into a space all together? I like your signs & pictures & that you’re displaying some of your own journals, we have to have some doodads! It cracks me up that you have nail polish for last minute touch ups & an extra ring for filming but you always look so wonderful, so it’s a system that works for you! The hand sanitizers that work the best on the Tim Holtz mat have the highest percentage of isopropyl alcohol in them. Here in the US that’s typically anywhere between 71-91%. I like having a little spritzer of Windex (glass cleaner) also to help with cleanup, too! I learned about the “dry” wet wipes from you, that’s a real help with glue (& ink & paint too!) All in all, I think you’ve got a nice cozy place to work & create!! Thank so much for all the tours!! Have a good evening, Tina!

Hi, Tina, it must have taken so long to get all that organized but you’ve done a great job! You have so many things too that are already to use all you have to do is get them out & they’re ready to go & that’s great! I need to get my stuff more organized so I’ll know right where it is & be able to go straight to it! I’ve got everything so mixed up I always have to go on a search when I need something! It amazes me how much stuff you have! You’ll get it exactly like you want it one day! Just keep hanging in there!😊 stay safe & have a blessed Memorial Day! Hugs my friend!❤️

@@shabbydabbydoodah I know that feeling for sure. My sister and husband tease me that I can’t work in a space more than 12-15 inches because I junk it all up. Oh well, I could do way worse things and I’m the one cleaning it.
How are your children doing? Well I hope, I just think about them and how well they are adjusting. My daughter is going through a divorce and he’s a narcissist. Ok well enough about that, have a wonderful weekend and I’m looking forward to your next video. 🥰🥰🥰

What a beautiful craft room! Great job Tina!
I store my stencils in a 3 ring binder with transparent sleeves and my mixed media stencils in a 12x12 scrapbook binder (they come with the clear sleeves). This has worked for me for years!
You could get a reception chair on wheels (one that has no arms). You could then scoot around your tiny space and just turn in the chair. They can be quite small and have adjustable seat height. I think you would love one! hugs Deb ❤️

I've only known about your channel and watched your videos for about a year, which might mean that I shouldn't comment at all because I don't truly know you. That said, what I see of your New craft room tour, you are absolutely in love with making things. All kinds of things!! I think you could, and lots of us out here would likely appreciate it if you did, sell little coordinating bundles of the things you like to make, in your ETSY store. You've got a huge box, a glass jar, and a smaller box of ruffles, a few jars, boxes, and see through plastic thingies with yoyo's in them. There is no denying you've got fabric up to your eyeballs, as well as coffee and tea dyed papers. So, how would you feel about making small bundles with a few ruffles, some home dyed papers, a bit of fabric, some clusters, pockets, and other embellishments for some kind of price you feel your work is worth. That would clear out some of your shelf space, allow you to make more things without overstuffing your craft room, and lots of us out here might be able to use the items you've made to make our own journals or whatever. Please don't block me from your channel 'cause of this comment. I really do enjoy learning from you.

Maybe if you put likes with likes, then the most used items within reach of your desk, you'll feel more organized. Begin using what you have before making more. I challenge you to use more than you save.
Hoarding is a waste of lovely items, they're out of sight where no one can enjoy them. Maybe donate or pass on some items. You'll appreciate having more breathing room in your space. The Crafty Organizer has good ideas for craft organizations.
