Return to Dark Tower Review: We Liked It So Much We Did Return...Many, Many Times.

- Return to Dark Tower (1-4 players) is a sequel to the 1981 hit board game Dark Tower, which was famous for having a big plastic tower in the middle of the board which lit up and fired skulls out. Lovingly reimagined for the modern market, Restoration Games have produced the best cooperative board game I (Farrell) have played (Tallie still loves Spirit Island), and one of the best board games we've played in 2022.
You'll pick a hero, complete quests, fight foes, and eventually lure that scenario's big bad boss out of the Dark Tower, at which point you must defeat them to win! Note, Return to Dark Tower is app driven, with the app being used for set up, tower control, fights, quests, and exploring dungeons!
Please note that our B-roll features minis from the Dark Hordes expansion which obviously are not in the base game (instead there are cardboard tokens).

Restoration has made games I've enjoyed, but I wasn't sure if the Tower and the incredible production would pay off, and for us it did as well.
It made us really interested in what else they've produced, as this was really well done. Was lovely to find a well designed (and most importantly, tremendously fun) under all the production.
@@BoardOfItReviews Agreed! For us (at two), RtDT has proven to be far, far more than a nostalgia trip; we keep playing and thoroughly enjoy the ride every time. Alliances adds interesting twists, and we'll still play both with & without it--just to mix it up. Very much looking forward to Covenant! 😄
@@browe glad to hear you're enjoying it as much as us!
Love the reviews on this channel , very informative. Cheers.
Thank you so much!
Some of the best reviews! Thank you!!
Glad you like them! Thank you!
Thanks for the great review. Given they'll soon launch again on Kickstarter, it's good to know all of this beforehand! Cheers
No problem, thanks for watching :)!
Thanks for the honest review. I loved the original as a kid. Finding the original online in good condition is a challenge and expensive. Probably going to give this version a go after watching your review. I was hesitant before hand.
Glad we could help!
Love the dogs! Excellent review.
Thank you!
Thanks for the review. A few people at my local gaming store have brought this in to play, and it looks pretty interesting. I know they said they got beat up a few times! :)
Hope you get a chance to play! Easy enough to jump in, even if you do get beat up ;).
Enjoy your videos- they're pragmatic and to the point.
Also- is your dog purring?
Thanks! We just call them "Meg noises"
HI great review i have a question is it worth to buy the both expansion ? is it worth to buy both alliance and dark horde expansion? or i am ok with just the base game?
the reason i am asking is space have become a premium here will all the kickstarter game arriving
i.e. Marvel zombies Oath sworn tamashi etc so space have become an issue taht is why i am asking hope to here from you soon thanks in advance
Dark Horde is only minis so it won't add anything to gameplay so you can easily skip that. The game is wonderful on its own, but we both prefer it with Alliances as it provides more interesting decisions.
Wish there would be an option without the plastic tower. Would make for a more compact and cheaper too.
Have you ever been to PAC Unplugged Convention in Philadelphia? Great gaming con coming up in December.
We haven't been to a convention ever!
Pax not pac
It's super fun, BUT ... when you beat the Tower ... nothing happens. I am REALLY surprised the Tower doesn't go crazy flashing all sorts of lights with a loud sound of defeat. Or maybe the app should play some sound too congratulating you. But nope. Nothing really happens. It's SO anticlimactic. I think this is something that was greatly missed when developing the game.
Tbf, I will agree with you there. It's always a little, eh, when you do the final boss and all you get is a little screen being like "fin".
