When I saw this video, I immediately thought of the Item Duplication/W-Item Glitch in FFVII. XD
Me too! I'm surprised it's not in here...
Man, I exploited the hell out of that one.
Such a good and simple glitch. Free hero drinks for all!
@@mattb6646 Endless elixirs for endless Magic Pots!
You can even modify the glitch to get unlimited power sources. Definitely OP
Thanks for watching the video and reading the comments! We are running a Kickstarter campaign for a brand new initiative; a book called The Legacy of the Crystal that will take a journey through the Final Fantasy franchise from 1987-2021 in our typical granular style. If that sounds interesting, here's a link to the campaign: www.kickstarter.com/projects/finalfantasyunion/the-legacy-of-the-crystal-an-unofficial-final-fantasy-book
Good point of view
Genuine question (have to state that cus I know what the internet can be like haha) but what are the legalities of the book? to do things like that would you need permission to sell something like that since its based of a copyrighted ip etc? book looks cool tho, may have to see about pre ordering it :)
Swap has a good point. And also, while I support you guys, I don't understand the point of writing an unofficial book, when the Ultimania exists.
My favorite glitch that wasnt mentioned was in ff6 that evasion stat is all rolled into mblock and reaching 120 mblock makes you pretty much immune to everything.
The Realm sketch bug completely flubbers your game in such unexpected ways. I remember the first time I tried it, my character sprites would always be wearing magi-teck armour (even when they went to sleep in the inn) and one of my character sprites turned into General Leo. lol
When I was playing FFIV on PSP, I remember reading on a forum that equipping one of your party members with an accessory that prevents at least 1 status ailment (like the Ruby Ring) could make that party member immune to Bad Breath from Malboros. At first I thought it was bogus, but I tried it anyway and it worked (only had it equipped on 1 party member though...oops)! I don't know if it worked in the original SNES version of the game, but it sure made the Sylph Cave much easier!
I played FF3(6) on the SNES back in ‘96. I was trying to get Gogo and when eaten by a Zone Eater, the game warped me to the Island Cid was on… weird. Well it not only did that, it also placed every item in the game in my inventory at 255 value….. 12 year old me was BLOWN AWAY. Seems like it’s related to the Relm glitch and I had no idea up to this very moment!
Had to be an initial release cart. The second release fixed the glitch.
A favorite of mine is the Odin Glitch from VIII, to farm Luck- J scrolls, I like it because is relatively easy to pull off
W item glitch from 7 and the “back out” leveling method for 2 should have been honorable mentions at the least 😂
"Forward and backward and then go forward and backwards then put one for forward"
W-item should have been on this list instead of overflow. Overflow and even max-statting just isn't possible without w-item unless you spend thousands of hours - more than you'd need to get 99 of every blitzball item in FFX
Same with the chantage from FFT. You get some of those things, Ramza suddenly becomes a harem master with immortal women protecting him.
Another FF7 glitch that gets overlooked is the Magic Defense Glitch, where the MDEF from your armor didn't apply. That meant that the Wizard Bracelet didn't provide the massive MDEF that it says it does, only the 4 paired slots.
7:20 Unregistered Hypercam 2 really takes me back!
RIP Retsupurae lol
I was really expecting you to talk about the item duplication glitches in FF7 and FFT! Those made a huge difference to my many, many, many, many, MANY playthroughs.
ff14 had a glitch, well more of an oversight
we had squadrons( the earlier version of trust) where you can take some npcs into dungeons
There was a special version of the limit break called Ungermax
It only cost 1lb bar, did damage to the boss, and granted a 50% damage buff to you and the squadron for 15 seconds
You couldn't use the ungermax button outside of squadron dungeons even if you saved it to your hotbar
the oversight is that if you typed the command in the chat it would active, so you can see how that 50% damage buff could made trials, raids, and ultimates abit of a cake walk
It most likely was there when squadrons was introduced but was kept on the downlow until some point during stormblood a clip of a blackmage using Ungermax surfaced, it blew up and the partyfinder was full of parties saying they were gonna use Ungermax
It didn't take long for Square to figure out what was happening and immediately put the game in emergency maintenance to fix it
from what i heard the people who had use the exploit were given a slap on the wrist
can any 14 players out there can proofread this because my memory of it is a little foggy
Sounds about right. Another bug with the Squadrons were that in it's first iteration, you could take an archer and it would just spam Barrage with almost no cooldown if you kept spamming the engage button, and the archer squadron member would do about 3 to 4x the damage it would normally do. They fixed it in a patch.
Anybody who used Ungarmax once (to see what it was like/what it did) was given a slap on the wrist. Anybody who used it maliciously and repeatedly got a more serious punishment. On a semi amusing note, this bug was actually repeated MUCH earlier than it got made public. The problem was, the player who was abusing it got reported by someone and the STF (special task force) team started watching the player, and found that they were using a 3rd party tool to cheat and banned them (which is true), but they didn't investigate deeper into it and assumed the use of Ungarmax was due to that tool. So the bug got left in there until the end of February when info began to spread about it, and a day later there was emergency maintenance to remove it. As a result of this specific problem, SE changed the way they process reports from players so that this accidental oversight doesn't happen again.
This reminded me of something i found in WoW that wasn't a glitch, but an oversight by the players, and was made more apparent years later.
Back when WOTLK was big, there was an ability in the unholy skill tree that would give you some buffs but a "debuff" of being turned undead for 30 seconds. Thing is, Death coil would heal undead, and death coil at the time was EXTREMELY powerful. So, you could target yourself, and hit yourself with death coil and go from 1hp to max hp. Death coil had no cooldown and only used 50 runic power, and generating runic power was easy. I used to roll into BGs and take on entire groups and murder them and just heal myself with death coil. I'm surprised no one figured this out and used it more often. Years later, they removed the 30 second ability, and just made it so desth coil can heal you or undead targets. Kinda lame, but i guess death coil was untended to be used that way anyways
The dead character glitch in FF12 is pretty cool. It can allow you to lock Yiazmat indefinitely, causing the fight to be free.
Free, but still very very long. :P
I'm personally a big fan of experimenting with glitches in FFXV. Some of the old ones don't work anymore, but glitches like Permanent Iris, Active Menu Glitch, and Skywalker can be a lot of fun and they open up the game in a lot of interesting ways.
That Icicle Inn piano rendition is blissful..
An Overflow Glitch I often took advantage of was in Mystic Quest; if you use Cure on the Dark King, he'd jump ahead two stages, and then if you do it a second time, he'd die.
Hey! i get that "The computer says no" reference I love Little Britain.
I'm calling the damn chocobo racing, bird dodging game in FFX a glitch. Damn bird doesn't cooperate and I can never get under 0 seconds. I got like 1.2 seconds once i think.
Jokes aside, i dont think i knew about any of these. Thanks, guys! Great vid!
I would call that a bug rather than a glitch. Glitches are fun things that can be exploited, whereas bugs are bad things which can damage gameplay or cause crashes.
W-Item from FF7 definitely gets an honorable mention here (at least).
Streetfighter had a glitch that led to characters performing combos. This glitch was then turned into full fledged game mechanic. Fighting games without combos are unthinkable today.
This isn't a game-changing glitch by any means, but I found it by accident recently and thought it was funny. In FF10 you can use the Cover ability to protect characters against Swallow in the Abyss Worm fight (Monster Arena) to have the covering character get swallowed instead. When the Abyss Worm spits them out, the character will be invisible. It doesn't work against any other Worm, and you can only have 2 invisible characters but the glitch dates back to the PS2 versions and still exists in the PS4 HD Remaster.
I never knew of the quickening glitch when I played Final Fantasy Tactics, but I applied squares choice to lean into it for Final Fantasy 12's quickening limit break system.
On my second or third playthrough of VI (III on the snes), I had the near game-breaking Relm glitch which had me scared to death that the game was about to get corrupted. When it actually pulled through the spaz-out, I had 99 of lots of random items in my inventory--including ones I hadn't picked up yet. It was like I'd used a game genie or something, but the game did it on its own. Everyone had Lumina swords, and Shadow would throw them maximum damage. It was kinda hilarious, but if it had happened on my first playthrough, it definitely would have ruined the experience.
There has to be fanart somewhere of Relm sketching a Missingno from Pokemon.
I actually thought the inventory manipulation glitch from the FF1 PSP remake would be on here. The ability to give yourself any and all of the game's equipment from the very beginning just through some simple inputs on the inventory screen is one of the easiest and most game-breaking bugs to exploit I've seen in an FF.
guessing W-Item is here, its just too damn powerful to not mention it.
Yeah, infinite Megaelixirs is just wrong... but it's not mentioned here. Weird.
@@jasonwinterboer5232 fairly redundant with mentioning sketch glitch, which is also a setup that can result in infinite items. In the case of journalism, it's worth mentioning the lesser known one.
Furthermore, for the sake of runs and speedruns, W-item is acquired very late into the run, and most playthroughs only have it for ~10% of gameplay at most. The exception is any% slots no credit warp, where half of the run is generally dedicated to it.
I'm surprised he didn't mention it.
@@superbaas8822 sketch has to miss. W-item you have complete control over
Final fantasy tactics also had the duplicate weapon glitch by putting a very powerful weapon in your left hand (caveat being the shop itself cannot offer a better weapon for purchase) and then selecting "best fit". This moves your strong weapon to the right hand and you purchase it and now you have 2!
The Sketch bug... I've used that completely by accident before. Here I am going through Ebot's Rock with Realm in the party and when I come out and auto-organize my inventory, suddenly I have 99 of almost every piece of equipment in the game except the Genji equipment. And I had already saved by the time I noticed.
Gah! I didn't even realize Cloud's messed up face in the thumbnail
Is it bad that I knew 4 of them except FF12 ? Love the video btw. Keep at it.
Very cool concept for a video, definitely enjoyed it!
Man, that Quckening glitch FF Tactics was outstanding! Though I learned it way too later back in the day since the Internet wasn't that much accessible then, it helped me breeze through some tough points in the game!
I popped for the Little Britain reference 🥳
There is a glitch/exploit in FF tactics called the JP scroll glitch that would allow you to max any job that span more then one page of abilities
I know for me, the Vanish/Doom glitch in Final Fantasy 6 is a favorite. I mean, in my opinion it shouldn't be a glitch or an exploit, it should just be a game mechanic because it feels almost essential for the harder grinding. However, I guess it's not meant to be since it was patched out of later releases. Such a shame.
W-item duplicating is easily the best glitch though... also I'm not sure if holding the R buttons during chocobo racing is a glitch but I haven't run out of chocobo stamina ever because it recharges so quickly. I'm not sure if it was always like that... it's been a minute since I last played ff7.
Nah that's probably left over debugging tools they forgot to remove!
My Favourite has to be FF1 Wisdom, to say it’s a glitch implies they made some mistake while attempting to make the algorithms work. But they didn’t attempt to make the algorithms work at all
Excited for that book!
I remember being blown away by the Final Fantasy 6 Sketch Bug as a kid. I first heard about it on AoL in 1996 or so. I tried it on my FF3 (6) cartridge by sketching Gau as he returned from a leaped monster on the Veldt. My inventory filled up with 255 economizers, sprint or running shoes, gem boxes etc. It made the game a cinch although if you know what you're doing with the Esper level up bonuses the game is already too easy.
The item duplication glitch in VII was key at times when you needed gil and fast....sell those greens!
The infinite JP in Tactics was probably more useful. It's in my top 3 of all time games, but far from difficult once you know what's going on, and keep multiple save states.
You can never really cheese random battles since they level with you. My worst ever was against 15 monks, and hadn't saved recently. The main story tho, you can basically solo once you get access to better Squire abilities for Ramza. Learn the abilities to increase speed and attack as a Squire, equip armor from Knight, and Move+1 or +2( can't remember which classes but I think its either Archer, Thief, or Ninja).
Turn Ramza into a Monk, with Squire abilities, equip armor, and move+. Increase speed, and heal when needed(Monk can heal), til you are getting multiple turns per enemy, then jack up strength and one shot enemies. Will earn a ton of exp and JP also. Can be used with other classes but I think Monk makes it the most OP.
💜 Kalm skip finally happening after all these years. Not a glitch but, it has boosted its speedruns to another level.
It does fall into glitch territory. In no particular order, you are manipulating a game stat (removing the chocobo run flag) and clipping out of bounds. Both are unintended behavior of the game and make it technically a glitched speedrun.
@@superbaas8822 all ff7 any% speedruns use multiple warp glitches.
I was surprised not to see the final fantasy 6 invisible / death instant kill on this list
Not a glitch, more of an exploit that the designers didn't consider
@@rustyjones7908 Nope, it was a glitch. Vanish was only supposed to ensure the spell hit, not to override resistances. In a proper working format casting death on a vanished target that's immune to instant-kill attacks would simply have the spell go off but no other change.
At first I thought this was only about FFVII. Seven big glitches would barely be the tip of the iceberg in that game.
W-Item duplication is one of, if not the biggest game changers in FFVII. Not just because of easily being able to easily duplicate things like Hero Drinks and Megalixirs. There's a pretty simple way to duplicate Power, Guard, Speed and Luck Sources by using Morph, then selecting (item A) which you should have one of, waiting for the Morph to finish and the Source to appear, then use the duplication trick.
Then there's the wrong warping/Yuffie warping in the PC versions. So powerful it's possible to enter the debug room or beat the game in under 2 hours, to name just 2 examples.
Final Fantasy XII have a glitch, early in the game, that allow you, and all subsequent characters, to gain high level pretty fast. To be done when only Vaan is in your party, since the subsequent characters' starting level match Vaan's.
The first time you leave Rabanastre, there is a zone to the right of Rabanastre's exit. If you'd happen to enter that zone at extremely low HP, there is an unforgiving foe, called Dustia, that would pop up to insta-kill you... Thing is... you can Phoenix Down it... First time I did it, I went from level 1 to level 5 one shot, due to the enourmous amount of EXP Dustia gives... Problem is, you can't just zone out and come back, since the game has registered it as defeated, and Dustia won't come back... hence the glitch... if you zone out before the EXP amount gained appears, the game won't register Dustia as defeated, and would pop again as you re-enter the zone... this way, I was able to gain a level per Phoenix Down up to level 20ish, then it start to be two Phoenix Down per level, etc... I got bored and started the rest of the game with Vaan at level 50...
To get the Phoenix Down is the longest part...
well...looks like im picking up tactics again
Sketch Glitch making the list over Vanish Doom is a little strange to me, since, although Sketch Glitch can do anything, it is not something a casual player would make use of purposefully, whereas everyone who played the game on SNES had heard of the Vanish Doom glitch.
Interesting, haven't heard of these, I think I will use it in my next FF7 playthrough, thanks
Wow since i was a kid i played final fantasy game great content now im playing ff tactics again hah
I was able to add in Aerith with Cloud at final last sword fight with Sephiroth at the end of FF7 on PS1 using the Game Genie....haha
Just wanted to leave a compliment. I love most FF titles, but I love ALL your videos.
That opening music! What's is that ?
At 0:30 , that’s definitely not Kons Games, that’s HelixSnake, who did tons of videos showing the wacky glitches that could be produced in skate 3.
I thought of the item duplication glitch from Tactics and how you could use it to easily break the game
Im not sure what i did, but once playing FF6 on the snes, i was in kefka tower and fighting the brachiosaur looking monster, 2 of my characters turned into an esper form terra, general Leo appeared in my party, and after the battle was over i had 99 of every weapon/armor/relic...never happened again and i have no idea what happened
I never knew about this vincent ff7 glitch. Gonna look into that for emerald weapon since you said it doesnt work with ruby
65,535 kills from Vincent to exploit that glitch. Have fun grinding.
You missed some, like the vanish doom combo in ff6, the item dup for ff6 and tactics.
It's not game breaking or anything, but in the SNES version of FF4, you could duplicate any equipment meant for you hands (weapons, shields, arrows, etc). It made money a non issue, and you could have 2 masamunes for edge during the endgame.
What's the music playing in the beggining of the video?
Some version of Icicle Inn/Snow maze area from ff7
Cloud lookin like The Toxic Avenger
Yeah I don't think the door is a glitch lol. The PS4 version of FF7 Remake had awful textures everywhere, because it was too big a project to be on that system in the first place. I really think the game was designed for PS5 and they had to dumb down or disable a lot of textures to release it a year earlier.
1:56 Most games work with byte increments, 8-bit, 16-bit, 24-bit, 32-bit, etc, because that's how memory is stored/addressed. They might use half-byte (4-bit) because that's still an efficient use of memory reads. Oddly this number (8,388,607) is the max number of 23-bit. For example 8-bit is 0 through 255, as there's 256 different combinations of 1 or 0 (transistor on or off). This is why character stats in most older FF games max out at 255, they're being memory efficient for saves. Why the developers used 23-bit instead of 24-bit or a more reasonable 16-bit (65,535) is beyond me.🤷♂️
I like the speed square. One well placed shot for 25k :)
yes to using a clip from aulddragon! legends supporting legends on youtube
Final fantasy I's intelligence glitch sounds like an annoying limitation of the original Dota on Warcraft III
It's quite cool to find glitches in game because you can use it to your advantage or disadvantage who knows hahaha
I'm so excited to talk about this but in ff12 there's a glitch that makes you and all your party members lvl 99 and max lp and Gil.
The bad part is I haven't actually done it myself on the ps2, my friend did, and u still don't know the exacts. Also I would recommend it on the ps2 as I couldn't get it to work on ps4 so maybe if you have time mess around with it more.
Anyway as soon as you get vaan you fight those 3 rats. You have 3 chances to kill the rat and sheathe your weapon at the exact same time. And it just pops up level up.
Like I said I can't do it myself but I know it exists on the ps2 version.
Overflow dmg glitch probably the most overkill in FF7 and it's easy to get if you want to grind out over 12 KoTR materias on barret missing score
Dude, no W item glitch? It's so infamous and easy to do! Not even an honnorable mention... I love the video, I just think W item should have been mentioned
W-item is a far more game changing glitch, particularly because of how easy it is to exploit.
Shoutout to FF7's item dupe
Any bug/glitch found in FF7 is actually a feature
it's too bad you never covered the kiss of blessing combine item glitch in ffv that was crazy so much it basically skips the entire battle against neo exdeath
0:33 source HelixSnake
More HCBailly footage, and from FFIV The After Years, no less! Interesting choice...
Fft was such a pain in the ass why didn't I know critical quick?
Yeah reference to 4-8 productions!
Peninsula of Power is my vote.
That's not a bug or a glitch, that was just an oversight of Encounter Areas.
The door thing from Remake isn't a bug or a glitch, its a project setting that doesn't seem to have been changed, so its just a developer mistake, not a bug with the game.
You don't seem to understand the definitions of bugs & glitches.
Yuffie Warping FFVII
Ff7 original playstation, cast regen the pop the ps lid, hp will keep going until he is full.
it truly is
I love 4.

0:25 - "Despite there now being an extensive amount of focus placed on quality assurance..."
We living on the same planet? The current mentality is "Launch now, patch later".
Yes. He's living in the real world, you're living in nostalgia land where the past was perfect and waaah waaah dlc bad. FF7R didn't even get a patch for over a year, it was polished to a mirror shine. Meanwhile older FFs had major stats not even working like evade in FF6.
Materia carryover glitch from end game to new game ff 7 original phone and pc versions
How the *hell* is that Dissidia one "game changing"? You picked THAT over stuff like dupe bugs?
Final fantasy 13 facts please
Dude, Kalm skip in FF7.
For example the Dissidia one is one of the "top" and "game changing"? Thumbs down, clickbaiters, kickstarters.
Can u make these ads shorter when u talk none of us care
The only glitch I abused was in Pokemon red/blue. The infamous Missingno./item dup glitch. Once I had fly and surf the game world was mine to control.
Most people made the mistake of capturing missingno. All you gotta do is encounter it. The best part tho is you can catch pokemon from ANY region in game as long as you went there before the glitch. So for example the Safari Zone. No more struggling to get them rare pokemon with only a rock/bait and a safari ball when I had infinite master balls.
