Over the past 35 years, Final Fantasy games have featured hundreds upon hundreds of different weapons. Many are rooted in high fantasy, having traditional roots, but as the franchise has built-out, so too did the imagination of the developers who were responsible for crafting the weapons of destruction. Today, we're running through some of the weirdest and they come from all over the franchise.

When it comes to weapon diversity, FF really has all the Bells and Megaphones.
I always liked Lulu's dolls.
Ace from Type-0 of one of my favorite characters, and he uses cards.
Lulu's dolls are one of my favorite weapons!
Cait Sith's Megaphones were weird, and there's also Vanille's Binding Rods (I looked up the name). Officially they are a rod, but the wires that swing off them are designed to bind the enemy.
That was forshadowing for the cutscene where she needed to catch a ride.
I'm surprised that Measures from FFXII didn't made it into the list: The characters wield literal measuring tools as weapons, which do very low damage but grant positive status effects to the target, be it ally or foe.
Yeah. I wonder are there people out there that really make use of it? I feel like there's some kind of secret to them.
Agreed. After the Mop from FF7, those were the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the video title.
@@s-wo8781 yes. I used them occasionally. I would use it to give effects to my team instead of wasting time casting magic. And if I remember correctly there was a strategy using reverse or something like that, which made it really good. The original ff12 was so intentionally broken in certain ways, that there was a lot of crazy broken strategies.
I was hoping for the dictionaries from Tactics, myself.

Final Fantasy 14 has MANY weird and comical weapons, for sure. I still startle a bit every time I see that Conjurer staff that LOOKS BACK AT YOU. If I remember right, it also makes a unique sound if you auto attack with it - most staves get a "bonk" sound effect but I think (and I could easily be wrong) that staff yelps "ouch!"
And I screeched out CHICKEN KNIFE when that showed on screen. Both the silliest thing in my glam collection AND the most awful attack in Shadowbringers as far as I'm concerned. I died SO MUCH to that darn knife in Heroes Gauntlet >.
Omfg someone linked that in fc chat and I never wanna see that weapon again!
What's the name of that conjurer staff?

The Kettle Knuckles....You've skipped half of it. You need to complete an ARR relic first before that quest even pops up.
That Kettle Quest was a worthy break from that grind for a single ARR relic weapon. The grind was real (kind of still is but pretty can solo 99% of it these days).
Fuck that quest line. I got my SCH weapon. Not gonna do it for anything else.
@@shoulditryit3564 the Atma books isthe only particularly nasty steps at this point. If only because it's so ridiculously slow. The light step isn't bad because even DPS can solo Bahamut fights in level 90 gear.
I remember doing so many FATES. For me, the Animus part was a drag. I think it was because of all the searching for specific enemies and FATES.
I'm confused, when does Bahamut come into play for the Zodiac weapons?
@@shoulditryit3564 The light collection at the Nexus stage. You get a lot of points by doing higher difficulty, relevant fights. Unsync solo Bahamut turns or extreme trials with your relic to gather aether.
I don't remember the fates for Animus being particularly heinous, but I did them all in Heavensward, after they massively bumped the drop rate. Maybe I was spoiled.

You could fill this list with FF14 alone. I mean we had a moogle on a dinner fork in the intro clip. I also jest that an actual mid-50s crafted Dragoon weapon, Mythrie Pugil Stick, is a giant shower curtain rod.

Lol this is exactly what I thought when I read the title of the video.
All the moogle weapons are wonderful. My favorites are the books-when you go into attack stance the book opens up while making a ‘wub wub wub’ moogle sound.

I love unorthodox weapons. Books, dolls, musical instruments and conductor's batons... all solid stuff
Not the first one to say it, but I would include Rinoa using her dog as a projectile, technically not an equipable weapon, but one of the weirdest things I've seen to date
She wasn't the first to do that, but considering dogs can be trained to do attack like that, it isn't really all that weird.
Imagine making this list and not including something like the Abacus
I feel like XII's measures are some of the most bizarre non-joke weapons in the series
I'd say the Bells used by the Geomancers of Final Fantasy III are weird, but that job class is one of the game's best.
FFIV had some strange ones. Edward's harps. The spoon that doubled as the most formidable thrown weapon for Edge. Also, in FF6, Relm's paintbrushes.
Oh, that's right. I forgot about the brushes. That's up there with books as weapons.
FF7's Mop is also a weapon in Chrono Trigger and yes in Chrono Trigger its Crono's WORST weapon stolen off of the Nu enemies in 65 million BC.
FFXIV has a LOT of weird weapon designs and I love it!
Good video - but for whatever reason, you didn't show Lulu using high level spells and her dolls emulating her movement. you only showed her cast Fire lol

Vanille's net orb in XIII was kind of weird. She just finds it lying around near the beginning of the game.
I thought the implication was since she had been there before she knew where she supposedly hid it when on the run.
in FF4 there was a spoon that was a throwable for Edge called a Spoon in the US version (a kitchen knife in Japan) that did 9999 damage.

Quina's forks would probably be more effective if they were practical tridents instead of weird scaled-up table forks.

I was thinking about the first fight on the boat were it was just Sins fin. Wakka would most likely only have his original blitzball at that point
@@Martyn-fon-Rosenberg Yeah, that's true. But when a giant whale monster rocks up to fight you, you gotta use what you have. I think that instance did teach Wakka the lesson that he's gotta put knives on it before next time.

I did them during the wait for EW at lvl 80, took me about 3 hours to get them.
@@DLMoridin sounds about right, I did the quest right after ARR, and got to lvl 90 from doing it.. lmao a literal quest if you enjoy pain.

@@DiafolEternal if your level 80/90 have already done a arr relic and have a full stock of poetics you can litteraly get through it in about 3-4 hours for the Kettle Nexus weapon. all the other arr relics still take ages thou

Great content, guys! I just got my Monk kettles like two weeks ago. Had no idea what I was getting until I saw them! Lol
Also, I had no idea about the Afrosword....I think I'm gonna have to fire up the brofest again soon to get it. :)
The kettles are honestly more of a flex than anything else, for how insufferable they are to farm for. I have a great respect for anyone that has them, cause I surely don't have the time to get them, myself. Haha
when they came out I was capped on allied seals, so took no time at all
the MNKs Tea Kettles aren't weird. They are perfect for my Barista Glamour Set. I think they are TEA-riffic weapons.
Knowing y’all stick to one entry per game when I saw Lulu’s dolls, I knew Wakka’s blitz all was out. It’s funny why they decided to make a soccer ball into a weapon.
I clicked on this video and came to the comments to see what ppl were saying about wakka. Shame he didn't make it over lulu. But seriously what is a soccer/volleyball gonna do

I came here expecting this weapon on the list, my best guess was it was some sort of hunting weapon that would reel out and throw hooks into prey but who knows. Cool af design though.

Yes! I’m glad the Mop made it to this list aside from the other mentioned weapons. The mop definitely was the most memorable in FF7.
I love some of the strange weapons from Tactics. Attacking an enemy by reading a book at them is probably tops.

I can’t imagine being a monk and doing the ARR relic quest only to learn you could get the kettle knuckles as well. Like do you show off the weapon that cost a lot of time and in game money or the kettles which is a bonus award on top of acquiring the relic weapon?
Zidane and Gabranth had Twinblades which I haven't seen very often except by Groh of Soul Calibur VI.
I use those kettle pots every new expansion when I have to level Monk again :D they're so funny!
The FFXIV monk's kettles nexus are my absolute favourite monk glam I worked hard for the lulz factor years ago and will never let them go.
A magic class that uses dolls would be kinda cool.. maybe they can be called the puppeteer?
Controlling the doll to attack and cast magic
And you can put them down and the puppeteer can move their arms around to make them attack
If I'm right FFXI has the puppeteer class, but I don't know what does it do
If we are to include non mainline titles, FFBE has a few ones like a bouquet (axe) and a microphone stand (hammer), and while not really weird but just interesting, FFT has bags.
X-2 has microphones as well for the Songstress job and the auto attack is just whacking the mobs with it lol
Recently I just found one playing FFXV Comrades, the Deck Brush from Cindy! Could really fit on the list XD
I thought they shut down the Comrades servers. Would be very cool if they didn’t, that was fun yo play
Maybe not as obvious because they're not a "weapon" but dolls also appear in FF4 after years, I thought that should get some kind of mention
Opera Omnia has a few that are basically paid skins that come with gems.
A paddle (sword), giant pumpkin lollipop and snowboard (greatsword), chocobo themed popsicle and a fan (gagger, presents (thrown weapons), a sunflower (Staff), cactuar (gun)...
And then there's "source material weapons" that are associated with a given character, such as Cait Sith's megaphone, Yuffie's Paper Cranes, Y'shtola's stick, Lulu's doll, wakka's ball, etc.
the FFXV final camp scene can't hurt you. It can't hurt you.....lol

Was I the only one who didn't find Lulu's Dolls weird? Did people not know about Voodooism prior to playing FFX or what? She shouldnt even be on this list. If anyone had a weird weapon of choice in X, it was Wakka and his balls
Special shout-out to the Cactuar Sword in FFXV Pocket Edition! The sword… is a Cactuar. Watching Noctis swing a Cactuar around for beaucoup damage is loads of fun. I rarely play with other weapons.
Alas, it doesn’t appear to be in the full FFXV game.😢

the kettle knuckles were added as pure glamour because of when they were added, also the resources required to get em, never actually used by anyone in 14 unless they were lvling a young monk alt job
Forks were reference to FF4. In one of the older translations, Fork was the ultimate thrown weapon.

I remember when I first played Phantasy Star Online. The Frying Pan was an interesting weapon as were the Fluorescent bulbs.
You mentioned cards, but no mention of their function in FFXI for Corsairs, being items usable to empower Quick Draw, the "blackjack" double-up/bust mechanic for Phantom Roll, and the overall aesthetic of the job. Quick Draw, Phantom Roll, and Wild Card are such neat abilities :/
I always thought the books and fabrics from FFT were odd. Even the animations were strange.

There is a real world weapon called a chicken saber used by practitioners of xin yi chuan. While of course it doesn’t operate like the chicken knife it’s still interesting that there is such a thing. I wonder if it may have served as inspiration
Hm I do recall how Afrojack apparently made a remix for FF8. Fingers crossed if the Afrosword will appear in FF8's remake. Man I loved Tactics and 8 for the ps1

harpoons are normal weapons...
@@Kougeru Giant, anchor sized harpoons that you throw and then retrieve to throw again most certainly aren't.

harpoons are common dragoon/lancer weapons in the series
@@FuraFaolox Pretty sure those use spears and lances. A harpoon is ammunition, not a weapon.
I kinda wish you considered Kingdom Hearts as well, because the Casual Gear (and to a lesser extent, the Mystery Gear) from KH:Days would've been perfect. Casual Gear gives Demyx a tennis racket named "Prince of Awesome" instead of his Sitar and Lexaeus a giant squeaky hammer toy named "Bleep Bloop Bop". The joke weapons from that game are mint
the kettles are actually so easy to grind. I did it in like 2 hours. instead of the demanding several days it takes to grind to grind the zodiac relic you need to do first which will also cost you like a million gil easy unless you're an Omni crafter too.
Books. In FFIII you just attacked by hitting the enemy with them, which....works, it's just weird that they have higher attack power than staves and rods.
In Tactics, they're ranged weapons, not because they're thrown, but because you attack by reading.
I have a demons hand camo for my Talis on pso2, I always fix it to my bottom to look like it is groping me...
Of course for laughs.
Slapping enemies with books in Final Fantasy III is definitely unique to the series.

While merely a thrown item only, I'll give an honorable mention to the kitchen knife 🔪 from Yang's mom in FFIV. One guaranteed 9999 damage hit! It's also known as a spoon in older translations, similar to ye Olde spoony bard, making it even better.
One could actually argue that the Mop joke weapon technically originated in Chrono Trigger.

Come on, there's no way that Setzer's gambling items are more unique than Relm's paintbrushes. Search your soul, you know it to be true. Of course, Anastasia Romanov's Faberge eggs in Shadow Hearts 2 is the absolute king of odd/unique JRPG weapons... and if you haven't played it you should, one of the rare JRPGs I would compare to Chrono Trigger in terms of raw excellence in every area.
Nouliths are weird weapons. Magic channeling drones that shoot lasers. Imagine a sage performing field surgery with those.
Cards were sorta used in xi as well by corsairs, albeit shot through with a gun.
