- Shampoo bars are a great low-waste alternative to traditional formulas, which usually come in plastic bottles. They feel amazing too! In this recipe, we used cocoa butter and aloe extract to hydrate the hair. It’s also formulated with our new Foaming Noodles and Bubble Boost, which are surfactants derived from coconuts. They make everything nice and sudsy!

I have switched completely to home made shampoo bars, and I'll never go back. A few things:
- Susan's blog is SwiftCraftyMonkey, not SwiftY. I checked, and the link is correct. Susan's blog is an excellent resource for all things bath and body *except* soap. I use her basic shampoo bar recipe.
- The cocoa butter is not essential, but is good for dry scalps and dry hair.
- The hotter the mix is when you glop it into molds, the smoother it will be. [Make sure you don't add the preservative too soon.] It will always be a bit lumpy though. SCI powder will make a slightly smoother bar.
- Putting the bars into the freezer as soon as they're in the molds makes them harder. Freeze for 1-2 hours, then let them sit at room temperature overnight before unmolding.
- Unlike soap, shampoo bars are pH balanced to the hair. Soap is too alkaline for micro-organisms to grow, shampoo bars are not. I would consider preservative essential. [I use Germall Plus liquid.]
I’ve got my SCI and bubble boost in the double boiler, but it’s not melting. What am I doing wrong?
@@Chickwithapassport Susan has an entire long web page full of answers to questions like this.
Thank you ! This is very informative.
Thank you so much for the shout-out, Anne Marie! These shampoo bars look beautiful ❤ What a great mould!

Amazing result! Tnx a lot for video and explanation )

😂😂😂
I have been following you for years, Your recipes are always the best and foolproof. If I lived in North America or anywhere except the South of Africa, I would buy everything from Bramble Berry, while BB has very reasonable rates, the import tax and shipping here is horrendous. It makes me sad- so I will just have to keep watching and appreciating you for now!
Thank you for the easy tutorial and recipe. I just made my first Shampoo bar with your recipe. The scent of White lily and Aloe fragrance is lovely and my hair feel great😄. I love this Shampoo bar.
Wonderful! That makes us really happy to hear!
I look forward to the outtakes afterwards! 😂🤣 Patience hat on!
Sweet!!!!!! Shampoo bars 💪
Love this! Do you have a video for conditioner bars?
You are such a good presenter
Thank you Ann Marie for the great recipe. I hope it inspires everyone to try to make their own shampoo bars. I luv making my own. It's makes it very easy to tailor the functionality by adding certain additives according to your hair needs.
Your reply DID inspire me to try this shampoo bar & it's pretty too!
Hello from Greece Thank you for the video
Vaso , do you need a import contact in the USA? We can be trade partners
Thanks! This is very interesting and new to me. I'd like to buy these products and try this. But not anytime soon with high inflation in the nation. I'll keep mine simple for now. But this is very nice!
Cant wait yo make these, I have been waiting for them! Any idea the ph?
Hello.thankyou so much for this great video. Can I use BTMS25 instead of 50?
Can u share a recipe for conditioner bar please thanks for this truthful recipe really able to follow
Woow I love it
thank you for sharing
Just wondering if the preservative should be done by percentage usage and weighed per batch weight.
If I were to use SCI powder instead, would it be equal weight?
Hello I'm really interested in this recipe. Is there any alternative to sodium lactate?
Can I use the regular aloe extract instead?
Hi!how long does it take for the shampoo to dry and harden?
If we have to make large batches n use shampoo bar mould instead of a silicon mould and cannot work that fast ,
Can We can still use it the mixture after it becomes very hard in the shampoo press mould ?
Will it effect the efficiency of the product?
Would this recipe be good for dry scalp?
If I just wanted to use raw aloe (I have THAT many plants), could I?
Is it possible to put the formula in percentages?
Can I just melt the SCI with water instead of cocamidopropyl betaine? What type of preservative are you using? Any other similar? Can I add sodium lactate? What is the percentage of each ingredient
Does it not need to cure the shampoo bar? Thanks
Can I use SCI alone and melt it with distilled water?
What’s the percentage of each ingredient? Especially SCI, Betaine CAPB, and oils
U are doing well ma'am
What is the pH of the shampoo bars?
What is the PH of this shampoo bar?
I gave this a try but don't like how it looks after unmolding. Can I melt it down again and try to remold? BTW..... wear a mask!
Gracias, genia.
Substitute of sodium lactate?
Can I get the full recipe
Thank you so much for the video it will help me feel more confident making these on Monday. Question for you. So why is it that cp doesn’t need geo 20 but shampoo bars do? Just wanting to learn a little more on that difference as they both sit in my shower
Hopefully my answer helps. It’s all about pH for cold process soaps - their pH doesn’t allow for mold to grow. I can only speak for that part though 🙈
Robyn is exactly right, the pH of cp soap is too high to allow bacterial growth, but shampoo bars are more neutral (or slightly acidic) so they are gentler on your hair.
What can I use other than geogard? Can I use same preservative in liquid shower gel shampoo
You can use Optiphen, Phenonip, or Germaben as a preservative in this recipe instead. You can use those same preservatives in liquid shower gels as well.
Hi I want to give a try to this recipe. However after pressing soap in the mold how can you make it smooth in the back so it look good for selling? Also whats the price range in bar shampoos? Thank you so much for the tutorial
Make sure you put a bit more into each mold than necessary, pack down tightly, then use something like a knife to scrape across the top of the mold to remove the excess. For pricing, Google different vendors to get an idea of the size and price of shampoo and conditioner bars.
Hi, was optiphen be substitute for geogard 221? thanks for response and sharing
Yes, you could use Optiphen instead of the Geogard in this recipe.
When making shampoo bars out of oils and lye, can i add a cocbetain to it to increase foam?
We haven't used that ingredient before, so you would want to do a small test batch to ensure it perfoms as expected.
Can I replace the geogard 221 by germall plus or something else? Can I replace aloe by something else
You can replace the geogard with any preservative typically used for low pH products. You can also replace the aloe with any water soluble extract.
Just curious as to how I could add yucca root to this formula.
We haven't tested yucca root, but we would suggest testing it by adding up to a teaspoon per pound of the recipe.
Can you use SLSA in this recipe as well?
This recipe shouldn't need any additional ingredients like SLSA. The foaming noodles will do all the bubble work!
Can you add additional oils to this bar? For example, Argan or Vitamin E?
We suggest substituting the Argan or Vitamin E oil for a portion of the oil in the recipe.
Can I use essential oils? Especially lavender and rosemary.
Yes you can, our fragrance calculator has a shampoo/conditioner option that's great for determining safe usage rates
I can’t get anyone in my house to use shampoo bars and body liquid soap. They only use the opposite. If I’m making sense because they don’t make any sense to me. I love shampoo bars that aren’t from saponified oils. It’s the next project I’m going to make. Even if it’s just for myself. Love Marie from HB&M
@bramble berry Could I replace part of my water with apple cider vinegar?
Use a 1/2 water 1/2 apple cider AFTER as a hair conditioner
What about the DL Panthenol? I bought the listed ingredients through your website, but this video doesn't show the addition of your DL Panthenol. Any info is appreciated.
The DL Panthenol is added in step 3. Here's a link to the project so you can see the instructions:
www.brambleberry.com/articles-and-projects/projects/hair-care/aloe-shampoo-bar-project/PS000336.html
Can you essential oil instead of fragrance oil? If so....what would be the measurement.
You can use essential oil instead. You will need to use a fragrance calculator to get an exact usage rate. You can find our calculator on our website. www.brambleberry.com/calculator?calcType=fragrance
Can you tell me what the ph level is when finished?
The pH level of this shampoo bar is around 5.
I only have SCI powder what would the weight for this instead of noodles? I’ve heard others say they used the same and others say it’s a little different, I thought I had noodles but just realized they’re SCC noodles
The weight between the powder and the noodles would be the same!
Thank you, when melting the bubble boost and Sci powder I found that it doesn’t mix to well is it better to slowly add Sci powder to it while on the double boiler? Is it also better to use glass or stainless steel for heating? Thank you so much 😊
what temp should we melt the noodles up to?
You want to reach a minimum of 160° F when melting the noodles.
can the noodles and bubble boost be melted in the microwave?
They can't be melted in the microwave. In our testing, the noodles behaved strangely in the microwave, including a rapid expansion like you may have seen in those videos of people microwaving store-bought soaps!
Oh I need that double boiler. Can you please provide the name or link? Thanks ❤
We actually just use a hot plate with a big pot and glass bowl! It isn't a specific double boiler device.
@@bramble-berry got it. Thank you 😊
How many batches will the "kit" make?
This project will make 4 bars. Here's a link to it:
www.brambleberry.com/articles-and-projects/projects/hair-care/aloe-shampoo-bar-project/PS000336.html
Is it OK using color blocks and not liquid crystal dye?
We do not recommend using the color blocks for this recipe. You could use mica instead though!
@@bramble-berry thank you very much!🦋
Can I add rosemary oil to this to boost hair growth?
You can add rosemary oil to this recipe!
How much time for curing this soap
Allow the shampoo bars to cool for 3-4 hours, up to overnight. Gently press out of the mold and allow to cure for 3-7 days.
Can I use liquid germal plus ?
Absolutely that would be a fine choice for a preservative.
@@bramble-berry thanks mam for the reply ❤️✨
I’m wondering what the ph is?
When we tested the pH it came out to about 5.
Thank you. These were my first synthetic shampoo bars. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it cleaned my hair. Had some trouble with melting the sci noodles so was dragging my feet when friends and hubby wanted me to make more. Finally watched your video again and made a double batch. Thank u so much for sharing.
What about conditioner bars?
Forget about conditioner bars. Talk about gloop in your hair! Use 1/2 water and 1/2 vinegar for a conditioner rinse!
Conditioning bars are a great idea! For a hair conditioner recipe see here;
www.brambleberry.com/articles-and-projects/projects/body-care/carrot-hair-conditioner-project/PS000093.html?cgid=3-body_project_studio
Is this shampoo bar for hair
Yes, it is intended for use in hair.
Bramble Berry, you should sell this as a kit....do you?
This isn't a kit, but you can buy all the supplies for the project here: bberry.studio/AloeShampooBars
Love the idea of this project! I’ve been paying 18 for my own bars! The only thing is…. I want to make my own to save money and reduce my carbon footprint but there are so many plastic containers in this project :( is the company thinking of using plant based “plastic” any time soon?
Hi Sara! We love that idea, thank you for your suggestion! 💜
where is the recipe ????
Here's a link to the recipe: www.brambleberry.com/articles-and-projects/projects/hair-care/aloe-shampoo-bar-project/PS000336.html
Its the beef jerky of shampoo😅✌️
Can actual aloe Vera be used
You'll want to make sure whichever aloe vera you use has minimal additives.
loveiy shampoo bars . can you make a natural deodorant stick?
We will definitely look into making a recipe for natural deodorants! We made one many years ago that wasn't our favorite but we would suggest looking at that blog post as well: www.soapqueen.com/bath-and-body-tutorials/tips-and-tricks/making-herbal-deoderant-2/
Is it just me or the audio sounds weird in this video? Like echoey or robotic?
Not just you. Camera was jumpy early in the video too.
Ok so it wasn't just me lol. I thought it was my headphones but checked and it still was like that without them.
Rather than buy 1 bottle of liquid shampoo, buy 5 bottles of stuff to make solid shampoo!
🐱👍👍👍😀😀😀😂😂
I really wanted to watch this video, but had to stop halfway through because all the quick camera angle jumps started making me motion sick. I don't recall this video style in any of your other videos. Is this the style you plan to use going forward?
There are artificial dyes, preservatives and chemicals in the jade crystal dye colorant?
I thought this was a natural shampoo.
Most ingredients in this recipe are not considered natural. You can omit the colorant if you prefer.
