  • Axys Valhalla - After A Year Of Use Review

Is the Axys Valhalla good at lining, shading, and color packing? I will go over all of this in this tattoo machine review! I am always excited to try out new tattoo machines, and for me to use the same machine for over a year straight says something.

You have definitely been an indirect mentor to me by genuinely being real in an industry that’s hard too have an educator, not easy to find an apprenticeship. So in the mean time your videos have influenced growth into my journey. So again. i say Thank you. 💯🙏🏾

I bought this machine from someone i know who got it as a gift , used it a few times on practice skin but decided he was good with what he was using already and i at the time i havent heard much feedback on it so i just made a " gut feeling" call n grabbed it with a critical wireless battery for very cheap and it was the best decision i made on machine purchases thus far. It is a incredible machine. Only other machines i use besides the Valhalla is my dan kubin sidewinder n my vlad seawolf.

I ended up buying 2 of them at first had a real hard time coming from strictly coils to only having this pen not knowing what to run it at what cartridges to use and what not to. Triple my tattoo time what took me 1 1/2 hours was now taking me 3. 3 1/2 hours trying to lay lines to my standards of what a solid crisp line is. Also running the machine way to low of speed and started with a terrible brand of cartridges that just sliced into everything. Tryed 5-6 different brands found a pretty solid consistent brand. But still went back to coils. But I was determined on learning how to utilize it and use it proficiency. Only ran tiny fine lines like small script or if it was near someone’s head so my coils didn’t ring there ears. But every once in a while it would act funky ink wouldn’t flow right could fill the thing up and nothing flowed but figured it was the cartridges and not machine. And sometimes how loud it could get randomly or run weird and not knowing anyone else with one found on eBay with the 1 1/2 grip I was planning on buying anyway. So I got it for a friend and was just gonna switch the grips. Now first thing I did was test it and the one I just got was way more quite then mine. Then just switched out the clean cap on mine first that helped. But with the new one I had problems with the cartridges clicking in. It spit a couple out on me then was really picking n choosing what would make the ink flow from what direction or angle I had the machine try to push it up as hard as I could and twist it in and it would just spin get tighter then to lose again. Adjusting the depth would brutally change the sound how well the ink flowed or change the needle direction. And up until this never had a membrane snap on any cartridge and had 2 in one tattoo. Tryed switching back to the inch grip solved it for the time being. But snapped a membrane again and was baffled. I tryed everytime I adjusted the depth pop the whole thing out and pop it back in so it didn’t twist the needle and membrane worked a little but still wasn’t fully right . Switching the clean cap and the new one then screwing the grip back on I noticed there was some play and wiggle room unless the grip was all the way tight. And after I had both grips off checking how carts were clicking in with just the grip and everything was just fine that way. I changed out the o-rings for the grip got slightly better with the wiggle but still had play. Then hooked it up and ran it wiggled it and there was the loudness and wonky running on both machine. And one says v1 then v1.3 and the v1 was the eBay one. Since it’s a single thread and not the best o rings I put a single layer of sensi wrap around that thread cut it so there was no kinda interference with the plunger. And since I didn’t have threading tape on hand. It snugged up the grip so no more wiggling, cartridges clicked right in and was not loud out wonky and ran better then it ever has before. Has anyone else ran into something like this ? And noticed when I first got mine the top of the threads looked like they got messed up or something messed it up but the other one had the same tore up threads at the same spot. Happy I hopefully figured out the problem because i was ready to make these thing 600$ darts. And it’s hard to find any negative reviews or faults of this machine anywhere.

I’ve had the axis Valhalla for a couple months now. I like the stroke feature but wish they would make some disposable tubes. That part really turns me off from this machine. It does work well if you have big liners or big mags to push. It definitely doesn’t lack power. But I actually like the FK irons Xion more. It works well for the way I tattoo. I also like the disposable gorilla grips. It’s just nice to throw away everything thing after you’re done. I bought a lightning battery pack and it takes a bit to get used to. been looking at getting one of these, have always liked rotary machines with adjustable cam wheels because they are just simple and effective in my opinion but after trying a cheap pen style machine and loving how comfortable it is i think the valhalla will end up being the one that retires my others. havnt touched a coil machine since i jumped on the cartridge bandwagon and have a feeling this machine might be the one that replaces my "traditional" styled rotary machines.
never gonna switch to battery power tho, i like my damn foot pedal and took me forever to switch to click on and click off with that. being hooked up to a cord just never bothered me, a battery going out halfway thru a piece and forcing me to tear down and swap it out would.

I was hoping to get my hands on one to at least be able to practice on fake skin and be a what some would call a “CZcams apprentice” but can’t get myself a machine without proof of professionalism . If anyone has any advice on what I should do would be appreciated.

Thanks for a video! I'm using this amazing machine about a year and very glad to work with it! Now I have a question: did you oil the engine of the machine after a year of using it? Do we need to oil it at all? Can't find any information about the maintenance of Axys Valhalla Pen... If you know something about it would be so nice to see the video how to open it and oiling the engine (if needed). Thanks a lot!

You have to understand hand speed, needle depth, throw, stroke, voltage, and how to stretch the skin. There are some basics nowadays that are way different from learning as I did 20 years ago. You no longer have to make needles. You can do a total apprenticeship via CZcams but I would practice on fake skin, oranges, bananas, and Reel Skin before on a client. Tattoo yourself if you're up to it as well. Hope that helps man.

Sorry, this may seem like a strange comment. I just bought this machine last week and absolutely love it! It's light, clean, the different settings is a game changer, I find the linework I do with it comes out cleaner than with my last set (Bishops), and I only wish I had bought it sooner!
That being said though... I am really struggling with packing in color with it. Grey shading (soft or bold work) comes out just fine, my linework is just fine, but when I try to use color ink, it barely goes in, goes in patchy, or almost not at all.. For color packing I usually use a longer stroke (the 4.2 on this machine) and after 9 years of tattooing daily, I have a solid grasp on needle length. I just can not seem to get color packing to work with this machine. Wondering if it's the cartridge's I'm using?? (Helios CArtridges) Or If I'm missing something.
You mention in this video you run your machines 10-12V, and I'm usually around 7-8V, so I'll give higher voltage a try next time.
I've tried moving my hand at different speeds than I'm used to, different directions, different depths, different voltage, and no matter what the needles seem to skip and just chew at the skin when using colored ink! It's very frustrating and strange it's not happening with black ink also.
    Any advice?

This machine loves power. I personally put lines in between 11.5-13.5 . And pack around 9.5-10.5. On the lower end I find this machine lacks punch. But it does say right in the manual the machine likes the higher end voltage. I've wrote to vahalla to see what this machine motor is putting out as far as rpm but haven't heard anything back yet. I'm guessing in the higher end of the voltage spectrum at the longer stroke its somewhere in the 120 130 cps. But could he wrong. Either way it's a solid machine just don't be afraid of the power it has

You really need to try the FK IRONS Spektra Flux mate. It’s night and day better than the Valhalla. Just my opinion. I found at 5V - 6.5V the Valhalla was often inconsistent. It would fluctuate too much for my taste. I tried multiple power supplies and my wireless packs. It acted the same on all of them. I prefer to do all my 3rl dot shading at 5-6V. I do a lot of really soft dot work layered with black and that’s the biggest gripe I had with the machine. Asides from the fact that it’s rubbish for bigger line groupings unless you like lining really slow. I move too fast for the Valhalla when it comes to lines. Also, it packs well, but that’s not saying much. Every rotary machine I’ve used can pack color, it’s not that difficult of a task for any decent machine. To each their own. It just didn’t impress me honestly. I used it for 10 procedures and stuck it on the shelf. If a machine doesn’t impress me within 10 tattoos, it’s not a win in my book. Maybe I’ll get it out and give it a go again soon. Just my thoughts and experiences with the Valhalla. Cheers mate. Ian Ashalyn ( Creation Tattoo )
