VANLIFE rules for sleeping

- Today's van life uk travel adventure covers sleeping in your van. Whether it's a scenic park up looking out to sea (complete with dolphins) and yes we have had one of those, to sleeping on a petrol station forecourt.
What rules do you go by when choosing yourself a sleep spot?
I tell people I sleep anywhere but in reality I'm actually quite fussy about where I sleep.
There's lots to consider such as road noise, people noise, how level the van is and if there's somewhere close to buy some milk in the morning.
I hope you find this interesting and please let me know in the comments what van life sleep stories you have.
Thanks for watching and subscribing. I'm at 192 subscribers as of this evening which is amazing. Also my 5 best things for van life video has had over 5k views !!
Thank you

Cannot comprehend the negative comments here as he’s merely expressing how he does overnighters. Some new to van life could be appreciating his methods of selecting a parking up.
What IS giving van lifers bad press are those that dump rubbish and empty toilets wherever they are parked up.
Great vlog. Leave no trace, arrive late, leave early, for most people stealth camping is not something the need or want to do. For single travellers it might be easier. I have only done it occasionally on my own, with a dog.
Most of these CZcamsrs, don’t realise they’re killing Vanlife by parking in beauty spots overnight or parking with lots of other vans.
Good video buddy well thought out and informative. Very few consider the danger of a rear shunt from some drink/drug driver, it only has to happen once and its goodbye for ever!!!....
thank you, glad you liked it
I haven’t tried a residential street (so far).
My rule about park ups is that if it doesn’t feel right don’t stay.
Shopping centres, beachside carparks, reserves, and bush areas are good places to sleep
Smart man obviously a van life veteran! 😃
Sleep in the daytime is much easier..travel at night….park the van and go into the woods with your pop up tent..
All good common sense advice. I car camp and find quiet residential streets work for me. Find the spot, get in the back and stay there till morning.
You think like me, I’ve been sleeping in the van 40 years, not permanently but regularly and I think like you I don’t go to beauty spots only in the day drive into a village or town at night and park there because a lot of car parks in the country, look quiet, but people seem to turn up one or 2 o’clock in the morning with the radio blaring And you just can’t sleep then because you don’t know what they’re gonna do but yes churches I look for I don’t use Park 4night that’s where everybody else is regularly parking and it offends people industrial states streets with hedges think if you were living in there, would you see think a van is suspicious being parked in your road? if everybody else thought like me and you, there wouldn’t be so many signs up saying no overnight parking. Good blog.💯
Thank you 🙏 means so much ❤️
helpful advice. Im thinking of vanlife and its one thing ive thought about. Parking somewhere level to allow proper sleep
Do it and save the money you would have paid on rent or mortgage. 👍
got any advice on van insurance, seems ridiculously expensive@@adventuresinmyvan
you can also get ramps or maxtrax to level your vehicle.
i can park anywhere i just use my hydraulic rams to level without even getting out of my big sprinter.
@@user-lk6gm5lx1y that’s awesome 👍
Your on the wrong side of the road for starters rear lights should be facing the cars coming towards you and it's much better to park in a layby, you haven't lived in a van for very long 😢
Six years 👍
Great job brother love your van enjoy your commentary, would like to see how your van is done.
That’s my next video 👍
Ask somebody if you can park in their road for one night….you might be pleasantly surprised….you might get a cup of tea and a chat too…
❤❤❤
What do you pop on windows when sleeping in street ? I have just got berlingo and not slept yet, but I have those silver thermal things for each window imon the inside. But I feel in a street it looks too obvious I'm sleeping in it. Good vid by way, subscribed.
I have those silver thermal things but don't use them when street camping as I don't want to draw attention to myself. Thanks for watching and subscribing - means a lot 👍
You get a fine for parking facing the wrong direction in New Zealand. The vehicle has to be orientated the same way as moving traffic. It's weird to see the "messy" parking on the street 😳
It's the same rule in the UK after dark but it is rarely if ever enforced. Most people are not even aware of it
Don’t you find it stressful looking for a place to sleep every night
I’m only part time in the van now. If you’re staying in one area for work then you quickly build up a list of sleeping spots and alternate between them. Yes, sometimes it can be stressful though especially looking for somewhere when it’s dark
I'm in Australia and recently drove for over an hour to find something that felt right.. It's not nice having to park up somewhere where you don't feel comfortable..
@@MrStylezy don’t watch the film WOLF CREEK !
@@adventuresinmyvan
Agreed and WOLF CREEK 2
dont mess with Mick Taylor lol
@@mariataif I can’t watch Blair witch because I’ve had weird things happen at night while camping
Down a slow road outside someone's house like these are what's giving vanlife a bad name, stay away from people's homes for crying out loud. Industrial estate or out in the sticks only
Cemeteries usually have taps or standpipes for filling your water containers too.
How disrespectful !
@@junehall2177 don’t do it then !
Get rid of the stickers and keep your van clean….look as posh as you can…dont look a rebel…plaits hair dye and tats cover them all up..
Bad bad idea parking up anywhere near residential houses...there are loads of park n ride car parks that are free some don't even have 2m hight restrictions..You are not doing yourself any favours mate
Have been sleeping this way since 2016 and never had a problem. I turn up late, grab a quick sleep and leave early. Nobody would ever even suspect I was in my little VW. I like to think of it as hiding in plain sight.
Posting these videos can't do any of us any good. Standing there saying you are sleeping for free makes u sound like you're bragging. Nothin discreet about standing there outside people's houses telling the world that you're sleeping in their street for free. No common sense whatsoever. I've been doing this for 40 odd years and now everyone else has jumped on the band wagon it's becoming more and more difficult to get a peaceful night's sleep. People manage to spoil/ruin other people's lives without a thought for anyone else.
no bragging going on and I'm rarely in the same street twice. If people like paying for expensive homes and high running costs that's their choice. Mine is to avoid those costs and sleep in a van. I would rather keep my money for myself.
@@adventuresinmyvan Hear Hear, @MRC7716 IS OBVIOUSLY AN AMATEUR AT THIS GAME.
Watching paint dry
Are you so lonely that you shitpost just to get someone to talk to you? Stop feeling sorry for yourself, it's toxic.
FREE? how much did you pay for the van? Road fund licence, Insurance, Fuel, Running costs, when you tally all that up! It’s cheaper to buy a home with lots of space and through the years is a lot cheaper than having running costs, breakdowns and having to replace the vehicle every few years. PS next to a vehicle parking? What if that car catches fire and spreads to yours?
I know, right?!? He's also parking _right next to hedges_ . What if Moses comes down from heaven and has another go at that burning bush malarkey? That VW van would go _right up_ like a tinderbox. Absolute madness!
Your all doom and gloom man,bet you have a house and a vehicle 😢
@@steveffuksakeNOPE!!! Cave & legs. 🤡
Don't park next to an EV.
