    This is going to sound weird. But it's been a bit of a thing for me recently to watch male content creators watching the Barbie movie. I think because this movie felt really important to me and I was shocked that so many men didn't get it and were so harsh about what I thought was a lovely movie about equality.
    It's so refreshing to see you understand the themes and plot and that Ken lost his way when managing his insecurities. So many other (male) content creators were angry that Barbie 'mistreated' Ken and were mad that they got Barbie land back. And almost wanted Barbie to be punished. Or were confused why they didn't end up together. 😢
    Your gentle acknowledgement that it's hard to be a woman was like a balm. And I think this movie did a really good job of saying that being a human is hard regardless of whether you're a man, woman or anyone in between.
    Thank you ❤

      this is a very beautiful comment thank you so much!
      I appreciate the kind words but this movie is definitely something needed and if people can’t see it that’s part of the issue.
      This movie was beautiful and I’ll still not fully know what it feels like to be a woman or how tough it is but i can do my best to understand :) ❤️

      which honestly is a big ironic because while kens do parallel a guy experience with insecurities...he actally also has a strong parallel with ladys/feminism where the real world ladys couldnt own property/had limited options and were given unimportant jobs and told romance/getting a man was the main goal that would make you fullfilled when the inherent idea of ladys not being that important by society and what men were taught in the real world would inherent create a imbalance. where it could be difficult for guys to really respect women due to society seeing it as natural that men were in charge and that ladys werent that important..so ladys wouldnt actually be treated that well in the romance anyway since guys werent taught to focus on that the way ladys were even though the ladys were only taught that because it was the rules guys made in the real world.
      and how whe ladys sensed something was up/they werent actually respected under those conditions and were chaffing under jobs they went with but werent that fullfilling...they fought for eqal rights and realized they also had potential to be important and do important things/anything a guy(or in this case)b a barbie could do...but still had to try to prove it to themselves and despite being defensive and saying they didnt need guy approval(or in this case barbie approval) all the years of not being taught they had that potential and the inseurity from the original system affects how certain people react when fighting for their rights.
      like how ladys focused on girlpower and focusing of proving that ladys can be important and do what guys can do as a counter measure to what thy were taught before...just ike the kens over did it in trying to prove they didnt need barbie. and how there IS a subsection of feminism that says girls are awesome but also sometimes puts down guys.
      but it shows that even the femisim that goes that exstreme of putting down guys is a over course correct due to how not enough guys helped validate that ladys were equal before just like how the kens when taking their rights were defensive about it and out down barbie...but much like ken...ladys who go that far actually just want to be respected and treated equallyand arent actually enjoying the idea of running the world or pushing guys down.
      so guys who are upset about how the kens were treated even under the barbie land rules were they werent treated that bad but still had a lack of equal respect and had that dependence built in... aren't exactly wrong for still viewing it as bad or unfair still about how the kens arent immediately equalized and have to work their way up....because thats actually supooused to get them to reflect thats how ladys are treated in the real world and thatyou shouldnt dismissive the real points feminism has just because some feminists can seem exstreme..because like the kens that 'exstreme' pushing reaction is a response/reaction due to insecurity de to beingunsure if the actual issue can be adressed. and how if its unfair what the kens went through then to understand how ladys are feeling in the real world.
      whle the equality understand is something I hope they notice at least on a second viewing...I think th issue isnt that they are still upset at barbie and are defensive of ken...the issue is alot of them dont notice this is trying to get them to understand how ladys feel from two sides because its not just the barbies representing ladys....the kens also represent this. and showed there IS a logical reason for why ladys responded in the past or even now they way they did.

    enjoyed your reaction and commentary! i like a reactor who isn't afraid to cry, just shows that you're a very empathetic person who is invested in the story. your editing was also incredibly good, added to the humor of the film quite nicely! 😂 will definitely be subscribing.
    aside from the spot on comedy, this movie also has such a beautiful message. it is at its core a movie about _life_ and the human experience, and finding value in yourself _as_ simply yourself. which is why people of all genders and ages can relate so strongly to it and feel moved by it. it's secondary premise of the harmfulness of patriarchy, is well executed in showing how it is especially harmful to women yes, but how it _also_ hurts men as was shown in ken's journey. at the end of the day, both extremes are no good, and it's only when you can find some kind of balance in between where everyone is treated with respect and human decency that is the most beneficial to quality of life as a whole. it was a very uplifting movie for everyone who went into it with an open mind. it's always lovely to see someone watch it and truly _get it_ as you did. :)

    beautiful reaction to a beautiful film. so moving to watch you so moved. I cry at most of this film. I am 56 and male. but I cry all the time at films, music, tv shows, commercials, theatre, a taxi cab driving by, the wind--yeah. I can get emotional. it is refreshing to see so many men get what was great about this film, and not at all feel threatened or put down. because, unfortunately we've seen a lot of men, not get this film and proclaim it as "feminist garbage" or "man-hating". ironically, the men who have been proclaiming this film as man-hating are usually the men that I, yes-hate. and I am a man. so I can say that freely with no backlash-or front lash-or any kind of lash they want to try lashing!
    i am man-hating when it comes to assh*le dumbbell men. and happy to be man-hating in the case of those men! do better guys. find some understanding, be a little generous or something! think about it-for every other summer for about 40 years now-we've had a so many-spider-man movies, batman movies, superman movies, x-men movies, raiders of the lost ark movies, Star Wars movies, pirates of the Caribbean movies, even Harry Potter movies-do we see a theme here? a common denominator? finally this summer we have BARBIE! and a bunch of lunkheaded guys loudly lose their minds because they think it's anti-men! guys! give me a break! thank you mazanreacts for being a good deeper understanding man who gets the humanity in this film. and clearly the humanity in life. thanks for posting! It’s a great film that uses Barbie to illustrate the problems in our own world with gender inequality through absurdist humor and existentialism. Greta Gerwig is such a great director and writer. For me, she’s 3 for 3 with her continuing body of work as a director. I got emotional with the bus stop bench moment with the elderly woman, and especially with the montage of home videos from women from the film’s crew. In one of them, it was a way to memorialize someone’s loved one who passed. It also didn’t help the context of Billie Eilish’s song, “What I Was Made For,” playing over the montage. Margot Robbie, America Ferrera, and Ryan Gosling are great in this. The big musical number with the Kens was as Ken would say, “SUBLIME!” I don’t get why certain men get butt hurt about this movie. It’s not aimed at little children, hint: it’s rated PG-13. It’s not a man hating movie either because it shows both extremes of patriarchy and matriarchy and the messy in between in a playful way and satire. I like how it starts a bigger conversation with gender inequality, consent, empathy, stereotyping, and respect.

  • @kimbapbekidding1522
    @kimbapbekidding1522 Před 9 měsíci +1

    It’s crazy because I’m a girl and I actually liked Ken more than barbie in this film.
    Barbie was ignoring him, putting him down, not even knowing if he had a place to live. Like she never actually rejected him she just says she doesn’t want him in her house for girls night. And then he does it back to her and she hates it. But that’s the same as when women fight back against men in ways so women are climbing the ladder more.
    I was hoping they wouldn’t leave it on a thing where they make the women right because they weren’t right just like men aren’t right when they say women should just be housewives or whatever.
    The world is changing it’s just so slow. At least we’re treated better than how Kens are treated in most areas.
    Ryan gosling did such a good job with Ken’s role I loved him. Him and Will Ferrell were my faves honestly. Margot did amazing too I just kept disliking her character though.

    • @jbrock8129
      @jbrock8129 Před 8 měsíci +3

      Wow. Disagree. At the beginning of the movie Barbie wasn’t ignoring Ken or putting him down; she was simply being honest with him and living her own life. She didn’t feel romantic feelings toward him, and since she lives in a world where she’s allowed to say no with no repercussions, there was no need to highlight his needs over her own. (And of course Ken has a place to live. What???) Also, when Barbie comes back, you imply that Ken has simply reversed the roles and is now doing to Barbie what she did to him. No. Ken STOLE her house. Ken stole her life. Ken brainwashed her friends. He was trying to force her romantic compliance through manipulation and he was punishing her for not bowing to his wishes. Barbie never did that to Ken. In fact, none of the Barbies ever did that to any of the Kens. In pre-patriarchy Barbieland the Barbies don’t subjugate the Kens. The Kens are free to do as they please; it’s the Kens who choose to make the Barbies the focal point of their lives. When Ken takes over it’s not a role reversal, because the Kens DO subjugate the Barbies-they turn them into their slaves. The Barbies didn’t make laws and rules that hurt the Kens, but that’s exactly what the Kens wanted to do to the Barbies. I think that’s a common misconception people have about a matriarchy-they think it’s patriarchy but with women in charge rather than men. But actual matriarchies are much more egalitarian because they tend to intrinsically value everyone. The women in matriarchies see men as integral rather than secondary. I’m not saying Barbieland was a functioning matriarchy, but the fact remains that it was far more equal than the Kendom, and interpreting this movie as a role reversal situation is inaccurate.
      And I’m sorry, but did you say that women in the real world are treated better than the Kens in Barbieland? 😳 Okay … I don’t recall the Kens having their bodily autonomy removed by the Barbies, and I don’t recall any of the Kens being r@p3d. They’re not incessantly hit on by the Barbies and then threatened/insulted/hurt/killed for rejecting them. There are no Kens acid burned by angry Barbies. There are no Ken honor killings. None of the Kens are victims of domestic violence. None of the Kens are ever threatened at all; they’re not even catcalled. None of them live in poverty, and none of them are expected to make ends meet while being paid 70 cents to every dollar Barbie makes. While it’s true that Ken can’t be president or sit on the SC of Barbieland (which is admittedly unequal), there haven’t been any female presidents here either, and we’ve only had 6 women on the SC in almost 250 years. (Maybe in the next 200 years the Kens will get that SC justice they want.) So, While I agree that the Kens don’t have the same opportunities that women might have here, real life women are certainly not treated better than the Kens.

      @@jbrock8129 I can see where you’re coming from and I’d like to know where Ken’s house is if he does have one because it never shows in the movie.

    Had to re-watch this to cheer myself after some other, viscerally disappointing reactions. (Cried at a peanut butter commercial the other day, I can commiserate.)
