    1:18 In Argentina (we had a lot of italian immigrants) we use the "got fear" one (and others). And I think (I think) it is related to the fact that when you are afraid, your annus get closed really bad. If you pay attention to the gesture, you will see xD.

  • @wandawoman8392

    I've been looking everywhere for the distinctive hand wave goodbye that is often used in Italy. Wikipedia describes it as a 'palm hide wave' as adverse to the more common open palm wave. I used it recently in Australia and was accused of trying to make an obscene gesture even though it has no rude connotations in this country!

    • @RomeInside
      @RomeInside  Před 6 lety +1

      Not sure which sign you're refferring to... Do you have a reference photo or something?
      If I figure out what gesture you're talking about, I can include it in a future hand gestures vid! :D

    • @wandawoman8392
      @wandawoman8392 Před 6 lety +1

      Instead of waving goodbye by waving the whole open hand from side to side, it involves raising the hand and keeping it still, whilst bringing the four fingers down toward the palm several times. If you have a copy of the Robert Downey Jr film 'Only You', which is set mostly in Italy, a girl at the swimming pool in Positano waves goodbye to Billy Zane's character using this wave.

    • @RomeInside
      @RomeInside  Před 6 lety +5

      Oh yeah, now I get which gesture you're talking about!
      I will include it in my future video!
      It's a goodbye waving that is usually used by and to kids, not very much betweet adults, unless you're being a little cheeky or funny with your friends :)

    • @wandawoman8392
      @wandawoman8392 Před 6 lety +1

      Thanks for that! I was using it to a small child so it would have been totally appropriate. I didn't realise, however, that it was not generally used with adults. I have seen young adults using it with each other in Italy but maybe, as you say, they are just being funny.

    My Grandfather was from Italy and in 1920 moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and was a Tailor making Custom Suits. He died at age 100. He married a Woman from Germany. They were married until she died, about 15 years before him. When we greeted him, we gave him a kiss on the cheek. I assume my Mother taught us that gesture.

      Grazie della cortese risposta! Scusa ma con me sui gesti "italiani" si tocca un nervo scoperto. Ahah. Quello dei soldi sì, è usato, ma quello lo capiscono in tutto il mondo. Parecchi gesti sono internazionali, nemmeno italiani. Ma al Nord ne usiamo pochi. Di quelli che hai fatto qui, in realtà sì, la più parte sono conosciuti, anche se noi magari ci muoviamo in modo leggermente diverso. Ma ce ne sono moltissimi altri che sono sicuramente solo del Centrosud.
