    I just got DiRT Rally 2.0 and only had time to play 25 minutes of it, but I am absolutely loving it! The cars have more weight to them, and you can actually control and car and keep it straight. In the old DiRT Rally I was scared to properly go fast because you'd easily lose it even on straights, the cars just felt light and floaty everywhere. But in DiRT Rally 2.0 I feel much more confident in the car, can feel the car is actually on the road, which makes for a much more enjoyable experience overall. I reckon it's more realistic. There are a tiny few things about Dirt Rally 2.0 that I don't like, and that I think Dirt 4 did better.
    1. Co-driver call-outs. I prefer them calling the turn direction before the number; just a personal preference.
    2. The stage ending. I miss being able to drive up to the marshal like in Dirt 4.

    Dirt had a big problem for me, where the clutches biting point was waaay too tight. It was basically clutch on or off. It meant that you couldn't half-way clutch to keep the revs up while going through hairpins, and the car would just stall in the middle of the corner. It was especially a big problem for the older cars that didn't have a whole lot of horsepowers to begin with.
    I hope they've fixed that.

      @@GamerMuscleVideos Okiedokie. It does look like they've fixed the grip levels for 2.0 though, so it's easier to keep the wheels spinning through a turn, so maybe it won't be much of an issue this time around. ^^

      @dalton-at-work Před 5 lety +12

      @@Sunesen not sure this is helpful but racing clutches like what would be on those historic-class rally cars are very "on-off"-y in real life, not like a street car clutch that you can massage. so maybe it is accurate, while also being frustrating. probably can be overcome with fine throttle modulation and selecting a lower gear and keeping the wheels spinning :) (i.e. drifting the tight corners, that's what the old masters did anyway)

    • @Sunesen
      @Sunesen Před 5 lety

      @@dalton-at-work Yeah you are probably right. I didn't even know it was a thing until I researched it some more. It seems like a stupid thing for a rally car where its paramount to retain a high RPM through difficult situations, but thats like I guess.
      To be honest though, I've found this to be much less of an issue in Dirt Rally 2.0. The cars are much easier to slide sideways on the dirt and keep the wheels spinning, even with the older cars, so thats that I guess. ^^

      @kasuraga Před 5 lety +1

      @@Sunesen you would never do what you said you were trying to do in real life. Slipping the clutch that way makes them explode and destroys the clutch. What you should do is bang down to a lower gear, hold in clutch, ebrake, then dump the clutch while pegging the throttle to the floor the whole time to get the car around hairpins. Not every time obviously,
      Dont slip a clutch. They let out the magic smoke then explode. Some people have almost lost their feet irl by exploding clutches from slipping them hard

    Thank you for the well said critique. I was almost raising my perception/opinion of this game, but then I stumbled on a RBR video.
    - Lack of sense of speed. It's fast, but non-variable. All turns are equal? It feels like you take tight corners as fast as fast turns. There's no sliding over a ridge into a blind corner.
    - The road doesn't continue into the distance, there's no anticipation of the next turn. Is it FOV or is it something they are masking? All turns are under 5 seconds away
    - Car is and will always be controlled via center pin? That's why this game can't do physics.

      There's a good difference, dr2 has more mass, inertia, u can feel it how the cars shift and slide on direction changes and on landing from jumps it's harder with a more believable reaction, unbalancing it, also on braking it more shifts weight and can unbalance it, which is good in my view. But also the tires feel like digging in the dirt, and there is stage degradation depending on your starting position.

    I really wish more people spoke in terms of car modeling and physics. They are very different and separate things. And people often confuse them. Physics is easy. Physics even in lesser fidelity sims are pretty damn accurate. It's the car modeling that is the difficult point to hit. Cars are really complex. Simulating a generic car accurately is a lot of work. And then cars are also really sensitive, trying to tune the car model to have the same characteristics are it's counter part? Even more so. Small changes can make big differences.
    That is a big bulk of the handling differences here. The physics has remained fairly consistent through out all dirt games. Even the ones that aren't sims. Usually they just simplify the car models and how the different physics inputs can effect parts of the car.

    Only thing i feel is not right about this game is that it sometimes feels like there is some sort of traction control still active even though you've switched it off. The throttle response feels really sluggish in a power slide. Specially in 3rd gear. In modern rally cars throttle response should be punchy as hell. In Dirt rally 2 it feels like theres loads of turbo lag in a 3rd gear power slide. Even on wet loose surfaces you cant make the wheels spin up and youre waiting ages for the revs to come up. Richard burns rally felt about right to me with regards to throttle response when the car was sliding. You could spin up the wheels during a slide then ease off a bit on the power if you were rotating the car too much on a bend. Its like Codemasters thought people would be spinning the car out all the time if they gave us true throttle response with the cars, so they added in some turbo lag. I dont get why they did that. More throttle response equals more control over the car.

    • @GamerMuscleVideos
      @GamerMuscleVideos  Před 5 lety +1

      Its obviously on a scale in the sense that , yes if you smash into a tree wall or have a big crash massive roll then it should do massive damage and maybe be game over.
      However the issue with rally1 was that the cars literally launched as if they were super light seemingly at random , it was massively inconsistent and massively over the top.
      What is needed is DIrt rally 2 wight of the car with it not launching and flipping as easy, but then RBR or worse dammage, so if you do drive into a tree or smash the car hard you get proper damage.

    • @wotever99ninynine
      @wotever99ninynine Před 5 lety

      @@GamerMuscleVideos agreed. and the way the cars launched into the air in dirt rally 1 was massively over the top, but i wouldnt call it inconsistent. and i actually enjoyed the challenge despite its lack of realism. i think i would have preferred it if they hadnt made the cars quite so heavy in dirt rally 2, even if its less realistic. its a game, and to simulate real life sometimes you have to exagerate certain aspects to achieve the right feeling. as long as it doesnt make it easier or too arcade i welcome any minor exaggerations as long as they are done for the right reasons. im not saying i want dirt rally 2.0 to have the exact same physics just that they went too far with the cars weight and lateral grip (when sliding) around corners. cars also brake too well and perhaps most importantly can go off track, into banks, into trees etc with no consequence. overall though i like the look of dirt rally 2.0 and will definitely be picking it up just as soon as they announce how the vr version is going to be released. i will still likely spend alot of time in original dirt rally though. but i will have to wait until i have played it of course.

      flipping dirt 4 fans.. you wouldnt know what fun was if it.. etc. dirt rally was realistic in every way that counted for me. sure the cars were too light on jumps. but that just made it more challenging. it was the perfect mix of fun and sim. dirt rally 2.0 looks to have overcompensated with the cars weight to me, but time will tell and i guess it looks pretty good, certainly more realistic in that aspect even if there are quite a few other aspects that are more arcadey. like rwd e.g. so unlike dirt 4 i will definitely be picking this one up at some point.

    • @captainwedgie1783
      @captainwedgie1783 Před 5 lety +2

      @@wotever99ninynine Its supposed to be a simulation. Why make it ''more challenging'' that it would be in real life. If anything, Dirt rally is only a simulation of overall feels and intensity of a rally race. This is perfectly nailed. But it always seem to me that people think a game is a simulation because its hard and realistic. A good exemple would be Sturmovik games : Its hard and you always stall your plane... It might look realistic but a proper pilot will tell you there is no way a real plane would stall so easily. You just cant have the same fun maneuvers as you would in real life caus you always lose controll and it really affect the gameplay in a bad way. Dirt Rally feels the same to me. I just cant do any fun maneuvers caus the game always make me spin and loose control. To be fair it all started with Dirt 3. It was almost exactly the same physic as Dirt 2 but with improved feels and also i couldnt hit any cool slide anymore caus it would make me spin and its all that matters to me, i just cant play the damn game due to that. Its not caus its a simulation or its too hard caus i love racing sims. If anything Dirt rally make me feel like im driving a cart in real life...
      But you are right about how they might poorly implement the weight. I have tried Dirt 4 and it only feels like im moving a huge heavy weight left and right but nearly independent of the physics. And their simulation mode (said to be like dirt rally) was just the exact same physics but the car would simply react slower than arcade mode. Also if you drop the accelerator and let the car stop by itself you will stop much quicker on road than in a big puddle of water so how can i even consider they know anything about real life physics when everything just seem to happen randomly?
      Im really concerned for Dirt rally 2. I really want to love that game but man it will be a miracle if they pull it off

Im pretty sure it reduce the traction quite a bit but im willing to take it as additional challenge. I dont crash nearly as much caus now i understand how the car react and it always feel logical. Its nothing like Dirt 4 at all tho. I would never compare them together as dirt 4 only felt like i was driving a heavy baloon. Dirt rally 2 doesnt, it feels just right...
      I absolutely despise the game menus. They are just counter intuitive to me i cant wrap my mind around them. Except the option menus, they are good.
