I went to college in 2010 and called my dad after every bears game to talk about it. • @j.a.greene3523
      @j.a.greene3523 Před 5 lety +35

      No.
      I told everyone I know that the Bears will never win a Super Bowl (or even get to a Super Bowl) with Jay Culter as their QB. 2010 was a fluke good year, and I knew it at the time. They had a relatively easy schedule, and the fact that they managed to score only 17 points in the last two games against GB exposed who they really were.
      Remember that they played a 8-9 Seahawks team in the Divisional Round of the playoffs too.
      Also, the fact that we lost to GB in arguably the biggest game in the rivalry's history ON OUR FIELD makes that, arguably, one of the worst seasons as a Bears fan. I'd rather have them go 2-14 and have those two wins be against the Packers, then for them to go 16-0 and then lose to the Packers in the NFC Championship Game.
      Any season past 2006 is dead to me. I'm only paying attention to this season, because it actually looks like they're finally putting their shit together and look to be competitive again.

      Lovie was excellent at putting a defensive squad together and also coaching them to play a certain way, to go after the ball and make things happen. It seems like all through Urlacher's career they lived off defensive scores and timely turnovers. That made the games fun to watch because you were always expecting someone to come up with a play. It made up for the embarrassing dogsh*t passing game, not just in actual points scored but in terms of the games being fun to watch. Often they'd have nothing going all day against some average team and you'd be just waiting for Peanut to knock a ball loose and bam, they're back in it. It was a pretty solid culture in retrospect.

BTW Dilfer was at least a guy who knew what he was and was in the right place at the right time. He'd make my list of worst starting QBs in a SB behind Grossman. In fact, my bottom 3 goes like this:

      @j.a.greene3523 Před 5 lety +58

      URUSOIMI
      I disagree, sir. That year, Trent Dilfer had arguably one of his better seasons that year in 2000. Granted, that's not saying much, but all he needed to do is to NOT give the game away, which he never did once they got on their winning streak. In a handful of games in 2006, Rex Grossman almost single-handedly gift-wrapped the game to the opposing team, but the Bears defense and special teams bailed him out time and time again (look at Grossman's stat line against the Vikings week 13). Eventually, it was going to catch up to him, and it did in the Super Bowl.
      There's a reason why Denny Green said "They are who we thought they were". He knew they were one-dimensional, and if you can rattle Grossman, which they did, they gave themselves a good chance to win the game. The Colts basically did what the Cardinals did, and the reason why they were able to win is because they had Peyton Manning and not Matt Leinert.
      I'd rather take the Trent Dilfer of 2000 over the 2006 Rex Grossman.

Was Jim McMahon really that much better than Grossman? I don’t think so. It was going to be tough to beat Payton Manning and the Colts in Super Bowl 41. Rewatch that game. To say it was Grossmans fault is a lie. He completed 70% of his passes that game. He lost 1 fumble that resulted in 0 points. You had the defense give up an easy td on a blown coverage. You had a rb fumble and give the colts great field position that added another 3. You had a dropped first down when the Bears were on a good drive. And then you had the coaches calling deep passes in a monsoon that even Manning was struggling to pass in.

    I know I’m a saints fan and this will sound biased but I truly feel the saints have gotten screwed out of all their losses in the playoffs. This game was iffy but we should’ve been the team to lose to the colts lol. Just so we could come back and beat them in 2009. Then 2 bad luck losses to Seahawks in 2010 and 2013. I think it was 2011 when we lost last second to 49ers which was the most heartbreaking.. so I thought.... until this past year when Marcus Williams not only missed the tackle but tackled pj Williams who was the only player able to make the tackle and we lose by a once in a lifetime 70 yard game winner with no time. It’s stressful being a saints fan lol

      Yeah your bias is showing man. This game wasn't even close. Bears were the superior team all game long and especially when it mattered.

      They need to build a new stadium so many teams in smaller cities got new stadiums in the past 5 years and the raiders are getting a new stadium in las vegas. Chicago is one of the worst runned cities in the US hell even Detroit got ford field.

      @@Webhead787 Yeah, the fact that we have the United Center and Soldier Field still hasn't been demolished is mind boggling to me.

    I was 5 years old at this time. I believe this was the first football game I ever watched. I had absolutely no clue what was going on at the time. The one thing I remember vividly from this game was my dad running around the house yelling “THE BEARS ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL!” after they won.

    Very interesting game. The Bears were able to take advantage of some early Saints mistakes but had to kick FGs inside the 10 yard line multiple times. You had the feeling the Saints would take advantage of having new life and sure enough they got to 16-14. Just when you thought the Saints were ready to take over the game the Bears stepped up and ended up blowing them away. Not sure if it was due to the deteriorating conditions but the Saints just didn't look comfortable out there in the second half. By the end of the game it was a rout and the last half of the 4th quarter was more of a celebration than a football game. I was 3 in 1986 so this is the only Bears Super Bowl I remember. Sad how unsuccessful the franchise has been over the last 30 years but it really makes you hold on tight to the few good moments.
