The instructions do explicitly say that you should complete the puzzle first, *then* rotate the letters to see an exclamation!
Gave me a chuckle when you were messing up with the lock rotations 😅
87 D is a fine example of how your brain amazes me.
Nice solve.
I also had "pegatron" and went through the same steps of rotating all the letters, fixing my mistake, then having to rotate the letters back. Agree with Chris that it was somewhat frustrating that it didn't accept either solution
"we need to rotate these don't we?"
oh no!
As a budding constructor submitting to the NYT I've been intimidated by some of the elaborate concepts, not to mention originality, achieved in the most recent Sundays.
And I needed to work out on scratch paper the 28 unclued words revealed by rotation, Fun to watch you work it out, and totally understand the confusion replacing the letters in your head. My complaint: "valid crossword answers" seemed a little inside-baseball to me.
Rotating 270° degrees is the same as rotating counterclockwise. Might help make it a bit easier.
Pegatron, really?
& Ben Platt
I find hope in seeing answers, sometimes before Chris. 🤷♂️
I envy the lucky folks who don't have "The 12 Days of Christmas" etched into their brain.
It took me an hour and a half. Rough.
I wondered all along if the numbers (1) could be changed to indicate the required rotations. Anyone try that?
I think what you’re seeing might be the keyholes on the locks? I was wondering if you might be able to click on them to rotate 90 degrees though
