We all have days like that and you don't need to apologize for the language. I worked in a shop with 125 other tradesmen, welders, fitters, mechanics ,machinists, painters, electricians, toolmakers etc and the language was just a part of working life. Later in life I got in to trouble for swearing in other workshops, I couldn't help it, it was part of my DNA.
I know where you are coming from. It was like swearing was a form of punctuation. The real challenge was when you met up with workmates in a "sensitive" social environment.
First off, there are more "bad" words said in shop in first 20 minutes than all of this video💯 😂, plus when you are not feeling well things tend to slip out 😆
👍This channel is the closest to real shop life as it gets on youtube, bar none & I've seen most of the heavy hitters. I kept waiting for disaster, like when you broke your edge finder. Good to see it turned out well in the end. I think God does stuff like that to us sometimes just to keep us humble. Good show Max. Time for a cold one after all that.🍺🍻
Can't believe you carried on feeling that bad, I'd of said f&$k'it long before then! The part turned out fantastic, took a lot of time to do that job. Thanks
Better twenty five thou over than under! It’s easy to cut it off but a bugger to cut it back on. Great project Max. Enjoyed this one a lot. Thanks from Canada
My high school shop teacher told me that if I cut off too much, just put the machine in reverse and sprinkle the chips back on. I never got it to work, it's an advanced technique.
@@swanvalleymachineshop It was a Bowers, but I don't find any I have to be that easy to read, my lathe is metric so working in metric is easier than imperial when precision is needed.
I think it was good to see that even an obviously professional and very experienced machinist can have an off day. Makes it (slightly) less frustrating when we mere mortals have a similar run of problems, knowing that it can and does happen in the best of regulated circles.
Fantastic video, Max. Nothing wrong with the language, I enjoyed watching you work out how to replicate that part. I would not know how to start! Thanks for keeping it real. Cheers
Everyone has an off day or two occasionally Max, no need to apologise at all. The finished part looks awesome. If I live to 100 I will never match your skills & knowledge. But you do inspire me to “have a go”, even if I’ll probably die trying. Keep up the good work mate. Inspirational stuff.
Wow! I really enjoyed and appreciate these videos, although this one obviously was not such a pleasure for you to make. Hope you feel better soon. The last picture of the finished parts were very satisfying. Beautiful work as always.
Hope you feel better soon Max mate, no worries on the language, you still sound like a choir boy next to me lol, loved this series of videos, I'm sure the the brass planters would fly from that tractor if the ever fired it up 😂
I seem to get a lot of those kinds of days. Thanks for taking us along. For what it's worth - I prefer your kinds of videos where it isn't staged - it's real and shows all the ins and outs, good and bad.
Hell Max, you are just a regular type of bloke, like most of my friends. Very entertaining, and definitely know your s**t. I assume I am not supposed to use my normal level of profanity on here. I have a lathe and mill here at home and almost every day I am tinkering with this and that, and it keeps me occupied and happy. Keep up the good work. I really enjoy your videos. Full ahead, no apologies for anything!
Hay Max i was waiting for the colorful language but see bugger all of that man you should be near my Shed door some days much more than that on a C E E video the part looks the goods in fact looks like it came off a C N C machine mate you need to take on a young chap or lass to pass on your knowledge before it is lost you are a true Master Machinist for sure Max . thought it was another part for the tractor and from experience i nearly had it picked for where it fitted in the scheme of tractors . have a couple of Scotches and have a well deserved rest mate catch you on the next job Cheers 🤐🤫🤭
Hah. That was pre-school profanity compared to my trade - plumbing! Listen to a few videos that Doubleboost has. He cracks me up. He has one video of nothing but outtakes laced with profanity. 😂
I'm glad to see you struggling today. I'm a hobbyist and seeing a pro like you having a off day makes me feel good about my abilities. That was an amazing part you made Max.
Thanks for keeping it real Max. Being .025 too big is better than being .025 small. I was very carefully machining some bores for bearings Friday and when I put the bearing in the hole it fell through the back side. Needless to say, I did not try to make the other 4. Some days it pays to walk off and work on something else. Expression of frustration is part of life. If I make a mistake it is usually expressed in the language I understand and I am very fluent is profanity. Again thanks for keeping it real and the job is a peice of art.

Hi Max, remember some 30 years ago making dies to make a radiator for a WW1 Junkers triplane, same as the one flown by the Red Baron. 5000 brass tubes manufactured by a munitions factory in S Korea. Had to have a hexagon swaged on each end of the tube, these were set up in jig and soldered by a machinist in New Zealand. Challenging project.
Funny, I was working on a part a couple weeks ago that was supposed to be turned down to .750 as well, and I also misread the micrometer by .025. Too bad mine was the other way, so had to do some weld build up (again) and turn down. Really enjoy watching how you do a lot of these more complex parts/setups!
I use a 20mm x 100 mm flat bar on the top of the ways. I have it long enough so I can move it around easily. This gives me more versatility using an indicator or scriber. Also I can use it as a flat surface for marking out a part.
That was a hell of a job Max. And your shop finally sounded like mine does all the time. I don't know how anyone would get anything done without swearing. Ken

CAD requires alot of finger hand movement. Expensive courses in WA. Basic methods of constructing a box or circle can be great starting points. Although I didn't start 1. Did a associate diploma instead. But to long. Written method still would stop the slang from slipping out. But it seems so so simple to remember what to do. I like taking small steps. But production requires time factors. Utube is a great correction tool.
Max, we all have bad days now and then especially when the flu gets us. I busted the compound on my AL 346V on Saturday of the June long weekend. I didn't swear, I was too FKen despondent for that. Long story. Anyway, on to Hare and Forbes and I am getting 2 new ones flown in. One to use and the other insurance against another breakage. @@swanvalleymachineshop It was just a simple job. parting off a couple of small bushes for the FEL pins on an old David Brown tractor. The parting tool is fitted into an old style parting tool holder and therefore was sticking out too far on the tool holder. It wasn't working well so I gave it a little more cutting edge and the bastard dived in to the job and snapped the compound in two right down its length. Chinese lathe, bad cast iron and not enough of it and an idiot working it. What more can I say. It was just a simple job. I never seem to have much luck parting off. In the last 40 years of owning a lathe I have never even come close to doing that before. Shit happens I guess.
