Those scrapers work great. I use them too, and I love mine. Excellent tutorial. Keep up the good work. I have a variety of paint scrapers and card scrapers. Card scrapers work great on wood, but you have to learn how to burnish an edge on a card scraper. Bacho makes really good scrapers in general. Paint scrapers are the best way to remove runs, drips and sags in paint and finishes from previous paint jobs that were not done so well. Scrapers also minimize dust, keeping the air in our work spaces a little cleaner to breath. Once I am done scraping I usually skip straight to my finish grit of sand paper (usually 220). I agree with you about soft woods like pine. It can be to easy to accidentally dig in and ruin a piece. I am so glad to see that you take the time to produce these videos. Keep up the good work, you are doing an excellent job!
I just scraped my second piece. A larger three drawer dresser. It had that thick orange finish on them. This method is really cutting my labor time in half if not more. Thanks for watching and offering your insight. You seem very well versed in the world of woodworking so I appreciate it.
I definitely need one of those! Thanks for the review!
This is a definite must have tool! Thanks for watching!
I just got mine 2 weeks ago 👍🏻👍🏻 loving it 🥰
Great to hear!
Perfect timing! I just received this. Ordered it for myself for Christmas. We must have seen the same post! 😁
That’s too funny! Small world! Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you for sharing this video. I have never tried it. Now I will😃. Awesome video❤️
Thanks for watching! Having this tool made refinishing furniture much easier for me.
Thanks, really helpful video!
Glad it was helpful!
It works fine on pine
I'm sure I can find a scraper somewhere in my garage or warehouse. Good tool to have available. Great video. Thanks, Bertha in TEXAS
Thanks for watching in Texas! This is a great tool to have in any type of workshop.
I love using the carbide scraper when I have a rather heavy finish. Today I used it to remove the finish off 2 nightstands. It took only 10 min versus another one it took 3 times as long to get through the finish with 80 grit. I was testing to see how long it would take using both methods on matching nightstands . I always finish off though with 150 and 220 though. Around the edges I use a very light touch as it’s easy to tilt the scraper left or right as it’s not flat totally due edge. You can end up gouging it by accident
I loved reading how much the scraper is cutting your labor time down! I experienced the same thing. I really couldn't believe it! Great advice about sanding through the grits afterwards. That's a must.
Carbide scraper is honestly my favorite tool for stripping. Cab strip a side table in about an hour or 2 with a couple sizes and shapes of carbide bits
I’m a bit ashamed I’ve recently come to know of their existence but boy oh boy do they speed up the process on some projects.
I have seen this scraper on other channels but this the first time someone has gone into detail on its pros and cons. Thanks for that!
You are very welcome! Glad it helped!
Hey! I’ve only seen some of your older videos with you using a shop vac for dust collection. I see a Festool MIDI box in the back there. Congratulations! When did you get that upgrade?!?!
ALWAYS love your tutorials ..They Do sell different blades for this scraper that is Perfect for The trim edges ..and obviously You'd Go slow .but Yes they Do sell a variety of Blades that interchangeable with this carbite scraper (carbite is the type of metal I believe)..thank you for sharing 🥰👍
Thanks for watching Debra! That’s good to know about the different blades. I’m going to look into buying those. This scraper was a definite game changer for me!
@@madelinejeanantiquesrestor9074 I so agree.. anything I can Do to avoid chemical strippers😊❣️
This is my second video watching you. Great video! I love your personality..we would definitely be friends! I refinish my own furniture now but hopes one day to make it a biz. Stay true to yourself..I’ll keep learning from you!
Thank you so much!! Welcome to my channel! I love hearing positive feedback.
I have to order on of these. Great video "toodaloo" Biscuit
Thanks for watching! Toodaloo! Haha!
Can you use this tool on a laminate surface?
No. Do not do that.
I can't take that sound. I was looking forward to using this tool because I can't afford a nice sander like a surf prep or a festool but I don't think I can handle that sound. 😭
A basic orbital sander costs $40-$50. I still have a cheaper Ryobi (Home Depot one I bought 7 years ago. It still works great.
It's called carbide scraper
Yes you are correct.
That is really neat! However, I’d rather sand from beginning to end… just my lazy self.
I think you are supposed to scrape with the wood grain. It looks like you are scraping against the wood grain
I wasn't scrapping against the wood grain.
Ok nevermind, I guess I need to watch the whole video before remarking 🙃
No worries!
