Great tip, thank you. Peace and love.
I used it on a counter top And it yellowed and the countertop was not wood. It was laminate
Just a heads up…can hardly see much of what you’re doing with the camera pointing elsewhere! Otherwise great show!!!
Love it, very helpful for a project I'm gearing up for ❤
I have such a hard time keeping mine alive.
they say o. o. we have Ride face. o. this is flying substance and put glove don't believe me ladies you are going to get cancer (8448)
Why didn't you use a damp towel and iron it to activate the glue underneath?
thanks for sharing.
this helps a lot ! thanks
@@Maudetm That’s great to hear!
Thank you for your video. I love your style and your presentation is fun and beautiful. Keep them coming. I have a dresser I'm still debating on what the finish will be --chalk paint, stain, both... I'll keep you posted. Thank you!!
polycrylic absolutely turns surfaces yellow. mostly white painted surfaces will turn yellow with poly. you may be correct about the wood bleed but the fact remains poly does turn white paint yellow
This was incredibly helpful and worked like a charm ✨ Thank you!!
Thank you for showing the learning process! Do you have a rule of thumb you apply to decide whether to repair versus removing veneer? I have a buffet that is missing the veneer on the front end of the base. As it's the base, separated from the upper body, I'm inclined to just remove the veneer on the base and go with a nice, contrasting dark stain.
Do you sand the final coat?
Omg thank you for making it simple and easy
Tq for ur great ide❤
Thank you for the video. I appreciate you sharing about the anxiety. Applying the last coat of polycrylic makes me more anxious than opening a letter from the IRS. I'm going to try going to slower to help with my streakiness. Thank you
Question: Attempting to create an epoxy resin ppcharcuterie board to look like a football fields. Water based green paint covers wood, bumper decals with team logo, acrylic ink for yard lines…Is Seal Coat appropriate sealant before applying epoxy resin? On trial boards still getting fish eyes!
Very nice, Bethany. Do you scuff sand between coats?
Love this! We are wanting to do this type of project. Thanks for showing all the steps so well.
@@user-wy9hr5kt3h Thank you for watching! My bathroom vanity is still standing and better yet, no leaks! You should go for it! We have since redone my daughter’s bathroom as well. We repurposed a GORGEOUS antique dresser for her vanity.
Was told to sand between top coats and its removing my chalk paint. Using 325 grit. Using navy blue had painted two coats.
You sand mice? How cruel!!!
But they still look dirty at the end.
For gel stains do you have to use an oil based top coat, or can you use a water based top coat as well? Thank you
So if you use the orbital sander on the flat part of the drawer - how would you sand the curve on the drawer?
did you ever find out calcium carb is chalk?
This is perfect! I have a beautiful antique table I just acquired that belonged to my great, great grandmother. It’s missing a chunk of veneer, I have the missing piece but wasn’t sure how to go about patching the other missing areas. I wonder if I can get these products in Australia and do they have a colour matching process?
Do you have neighbors? I want to get started with woodworking, but I have no outdoor space... I'm concerned about the noise
What dust extractor do you use please?
I believe your issue is an incompatibility between the Mohawk No Blush Plus (lacquer) Retarder (which is a solvent based formula) and the water based top coat you used. Mohawk actually has a notice for this product that if it is used on the wrong finish, it will cause irreparable harm to the piece you worked so hard on. It is not compatible with poly, varnish or water based products. Very sorry to see what happened, however, I know how you feel as this has happened to me also in the past, so set it aside for a month, then come back to it, strip and refinish it over again. This time, stick with a solvent based lacquer and not one that is water based. You were on the right track, sand, raise grain, sand, dye or stain, seal grain (Mohawk Pre-Cat Sanding Sealer is great stuff), grain fill (if desired) then apply your top coats of clear finish lacquer, wet sand, buff out. Stick with it, you will be glad in the end you learned a few things along the way. for the record, I restore vintage shotgun stocks & guitars. Good Luck!
Doesn't work for me either. OMG I just hate orange!!
What do you do with sanding final coat?
I know this is an old video, so I hope you will still get comments and questions. I used a light blue/greenish chalk paint, and when I used the Minwax polyacrylic top coat, I got yellow streaks very quickly, before it was dry. Do I have to completely sand all of my paint before I shellac. and start from scratch? Or can I sand off the yellowing, shellac and redo the top coat? This is my first tester piece and did not shellac, only , cleaned, sanded, cleaned and used chalk paint.
Scraper
Very interesting. Haven't seen Old English in ages😮 Nice job with competent supervision.
Did you use oil based paint to paint the furniture? Did you lightly sand it before staining? If you painted it with latex, I didn’t think you could use an oil based stain. A glaze but no regular stain because it will not soak into surface.
Never thought of using parchment paper or the shower curtain ❤thanks for the information 😀
I have a hutch dining room table and bedroom set that is very similar to this, same color and hardware that I want to refinish with black and wood. Wish I could add pictures
Thank you! This was so helpful!
Do you have property your water base paint cracking when you use that shellac as a primer? After I use my own chalk paint and seal it with polycrylic as a sealer my colo coat will have fine cracks in it. They don’t show up till my sealer is dry. Never when I put my color on it. Idk why this happens. Any idea ????
can you tell me where you have the details of how you did this piece...very interested in how you did the top...
Beautiful! Did you seal it with anything?
I love DIY paint!
Thank you. Your blending tips is really helping me to blend our bedroom dresser n chester drawers. Thank you
Hi. Thanks so much for all your information. I’m not new to furniture refurbishing but I’m new to shellac! I am doing a kitchen table for my daughter and I paint and I painted the chairs with a primer and paint spray paint. I’m wondering if I should shellac the chairs before I seal them with polyurethane?
You want to use shellac BEFORE you paint. The order is shellac (2 coats), paint then seal.
Ugh. I used krud kutter and did two layers of shellac on my piece and painted light pink and then polycrylic and it still yellowed. 😞
Oh noooooo!!!! Hmmmm what type of wood? Do you happen to know? What kind of paint? Trying to get to the bottom of why it yellowed.
@@madelinejeanantiquesrestor9074 thank you for responding! I just came across your channel while searching how to fix this issue! I used Krylon chalk paint. I think it’s a cherry wood possibly. I’m new to this, so I’m learning as I’m going. I’d post pics to show you, but CZcams doesn’t have that option. My question now would be, if you do not mind answering, should I just shellac again over the spots that have tan bleed through and then paint back over those spots? I even thought about getting the kilz 123. I’m not sure what to do. 😭😭 It’s very stressful as I’m painting several pieces at a time.
Ha Ha Thanks
I'm cleaning my brass kitchen cabinet handles. I'll take your advice. Thank you!❤❤❤
I hope it works out for you! Best of luck!
This is exactly what I’m looking for. I have a set of doors that I’m going to use to enter my laundry room/pantry and I want this look. I’m not sure what type of wood they are. Not as grainy as oak. I think they may be cypress. I can’t wait to try this!
How do you get the stain to stick over wax?
