I actually prefer his later material before he croaked, though. Something about the way he delivered his jokes seemed to flow better for me, and seemed a little more funny than his earlier days. Like the whole bit about planning a suicide he had on one of the last two specials he had (I believe) is really dark, obviously, and is sad. The way he explains the whole ordeal, even if it's something suicidal people go through all the time and is horrible, makes the scenarios funny. Some people found it to be deplorable, while others found it hilarious. I, someone who has been suicidal for quite some time, found it hilarious, rather than "offensive to suicidal people."

It was adopted as part of a reaction to the whole communism scare of the era, where Americans felt they had to fight communism on every front. He answers every pathetic question one might throw his way about religion in this one 10 min bit. And he did so many times over throughout his career. That's why he's considered the greatest comedian of all time. And he truly was. And if you think you got one that he didn't cover, comedically or otherwise, then listen to it again. Religion has been the biggest detrement to our world for 1000s of years. All wars & other misunderstood disagreements always comes down to religion. "Do you believe in god? Yes. Do you believe in my god? No." Boom. Dead. And if its a personal situation, call it something other than religion. Either way 50/50. Might as well waste that same time praying to Joe Pesci as you would to anything else. That's his point and its spot on.

    • @colinpierre3441
      @colinpierre3441 Před 4 lety

@@alexjohnson2527 Thanks for asking... well there are a few I can think of, but I'll mention 3 of them (probably the most prominent ones)... 1st there is the prophecy of Daniel in chapter 4:1-37. The prophecy had a partial fulfillment upon Nebuchadnezzar, but what about the part with God's promise to give his kingdom to his son Jesus Christ to rule as His representative over mankind? In Daniel 4:16 it says that "seven times" will pass. The Bible shows that in calculating prophetic time, a day is counted as a year. (see Ezekiel 4:6 & Numbers 14:34) The Aramaic word 'iddan' which appears several times in Daniel, means time or a year... so seven times is seven years. Revelation 11:2,3 clearly states that 42 months (3½ years) in that prophecy are counted as 1,260 days. Seven years would be twice that, which is 2520 days. Applying the day for a year rule would result in 2,520 years. The counting began in 607 BCE, 70 years before the Jews returned from captivity (see Ezekiel 21:25-27 & Daniel 9:2). So then 2520 years from October 607 BCE brings us to 1914 CE. At this year Christ was enthroned, but Satan and his demons were hurled out of heaven and down to the earth (see Revelation 12:12). Note that 1914 was the beginning of the 1st world war, or the beginning of Satan's influence on man.
As if all of that wasn't enough, the Bible also prophecies the events and conditions that would mark the time period of 'the last days' (see Matthew chapter 24 & 25, Mark 31 & Luke 21). So we can see that we are living in that time now and Satan is in control of this system of things. The good news is that a global preaching work will be done (see Matthew 24:14) and then the end will come. The 'end' of Satan's system that is. If you check out the website jw.org and look at the top if the screen where all the languages are, you will see that there are 999 different languages! That in itself is unbelievable. So looking at that we can see that the prophecy of the good news being preached is being fulfilled at the very moment.

@@colinpierre3441 You really must have strong beliefs (as in knowing you're right without taking logic into account) if you want to stretch this out as as fulfilled prophecies. If your interpret and spin something long enough, of course it might seem like there might be some kind of truth behind it. In the end of the day Joe Pesci could have made predictions of similar quality.

Just for the record, I have a friend who's a paramedic and they've dealt with patients who've been declared dead at the scene, only to then be resuscitated by him. They (the patients that were resuscitated) mentioned that they didn't remember feeling anything whilst they were deceased and most importantly...they didn't recall seeing a light/heaven. Now if that's not enough evidence for you then I don't know what is. God does not exist, never has and never will. You rely on a book as your source of evidence and try to recite it word for word to make yourself as holy as possible. Religion is a toxic stain on the human race and it's responsible for billions of death. Stop using religion as a comfort thought for when you die. If you make it to 90 and die of natural causes, then you can be thankful for that. Otherwise you're just another weak minded person that can't accept the reality in front of you.

Don't confuse Christianity with religion. They're two completely different things. To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Those people were not really deceased. If they were, then they would have gone to either Heaven or Hell, & they would still be there. People like you, unbelievers, think that we put our faith in some book, but it's not just a book, it's God's Word. Not only that, but we have a relationship with Him through prayer & obedience. It's something that you could have too if you would just set aside your pride & take the time to call on Him. Until you do, you have no argument or right to criticize us. You cannot say God isn't real without asking Him to show you. Maybe you're afraid to. We're not afraid to accept anything. We accept the fact that there's eternal consequences for sin, which is the worst thing imaginable, but we also accept Jesus, who saves us from it. You're the ones who are in denial bcuz you're afraid of the possibility of consequences, so you choose not to believe in God, but what you don't realize, is that Jesus gave us a way out. So there's no reason to be afraid. There's no hiding from God or Hell, so you might as well repent. In the end, every knee will bow before Him, & every tongue will acknowledge Him. Seek Him now before it's too late. Religions are false & evil & dangerous. Christianity is a fellowship with the one & only real God, & it's the only way to Him & Heaven. False religions & atheism is the enemy, Christianity is salvation. You can be in denial all you want, but when your time is over, you're going to find out the hard way that you were wrong. You have to ask yourself, "what if?". Is it worth the risk of losing everything forever, especially when all you have to do is simply ask God?

George used to write his specials and perfect them every two years. And once he did his specials he scarped all his jokes and started over again. And he did that every two years from the 70s to 2008 when he died.

I didn't hear of George Carlin until about 1974 but he had done 5 albums by that time but the only thing I heard him do was 7 words you can't say on tv. In 1975 at age 15 was working in a record store/ head shop, When my boss, the owner turned me on to a bit, on this George Carlin album.
An Evening With Wally Londo Featuring Bill Slaszo
Needless to say I was hooked I bought this album on the spot. Then I start buying the 5 previous albums. Since then over the years 12 more cds and 2 books.
Now I have about everything he done on mp3 plus interviews
I also saw maybe 8- 10 videos on HBO and CZcams.
This guy has so much more great material, that I don’t see people requesting from the reactors. What I see a lot of the same request, and all the reactors reacting to the same stuff. Here I put together a list of some of my favorites, from his first lp released in 1967 up to about 1984 included are the links and the time and still just scratching the surface some of them are only about a minute or so but those if you decide to react can just compile them into one segment even if you don’t react, you owe it to yourself to at click on the link and check him out, Just as smart but in my opinion, funnier. Not so much political and lecturing you.

George did almost nothing off the top of his head. He wrote EVERYTHING down. His files were enormous: scores of file cabinets filled to the brim with jokes, observations and other stuff. He worked on his material like a scupltor works on a piece of marble--constantly paring things down until the genius piece shines through.

He really did write everything. He made it his marker to write new material every single year. Throw away the work from the year previous and start completely over. George was prolific and he was one of the best at putting American audiences into uncomfortable places, throwing their privilege and their hypocrisy in their faces while couching it in the ridiculous. He never catered, never kowtowed, never gave an inch. He's a legend in every sense of the word and I sincerely wish he was still with us, today.

I am an educator and I do agree our system is broken - obviously I am not giving up on my profession but we got to move away from one pathway for all students mentality (cookie cutter approach to education). Plus moving on to college no longer guarantees a job after graduation. We need to give our younger generation a fighting chance in the real world. On the flip side, we need to educate parents on how to properly raise their children. There are too many families who enable their children and wont let them learn how to deal with adversity.

When I first heard comedians like George and Ricky Gervais it confirmed what I'd already thought.
When I last visited where I grew up I'd say about 60% of the churches are now either houses, restaurants or pubs/bars.
Easier access to information and a better standard of education has exposed religions big lie and normally I would say it's harmless but when you see televangelists taking money that poor people of faith just can't afford to give in America and the atrocities carried out by numerous peoples worldwide in the name of God then at some point any reasonable person has to realise its not a force for good it's a force for ignorance and compliance

Educating the young starts at home and ends at home. The more you stress the value of education and follow that up with 100% support by providing enrichment and educational experiences, the more your child will excel at school. Absent that, kids will just float through the system and become just an average dumbed down cog in the machine.
