When done well, it can add much needed levity.

I think the key is to not focus on race when making the joke. Race doesn't have to be the punchline. Bill Burr has this way of making you focus on the joke and not the face that it happens to revolve around race. That's what makes him magic.

Yup. That's how BAD many people are at understanding how their compliments often sound and why they piss people off.
Nowadays that statement is very strong people will take something out of context even if there's no context there to begin with.
I think the problem with the statement is more the implication of black people being good at the physical also leaves room to for instance say "white people are just cleverer" or "white people are just better leaders"
The statement fails to take into account socio-economic factors that have sports and entertainment often be the only way to a good life for lots of black communities and the statement is in that case just lazy
that's just my analysis though

Among strangers at a party or among friends is a big difference. Public vs. private setting. And only his friends would know if he meant it as a back-handed compliment or actually in simple admiration. Comedy helps us all not be too uptight, whether giving or receiving compliments.

@Jack Stucki Lol, the rhetoric of a true neo-nazi, glorifying garbage through and through. Nazi Germany never really turned around the moral or financial bankruptcy of Germany. It's growth was enabled by incompetent politicians scared of another war, Germany's full tilt got it trounced against ONE of the world's major powers. One of those "major powers" basically just threw numbers at the problem, and the other didn't get involved until the contentious part was already over, and Germany was heading into the loss, being engaged elsewhere aside from profiting off the war.
Nazi germany was awful in just about every way. It investing everything it had into it's military was really all it had going for it, and that's a bad strategy unless you're sure you will win outright.
